Radials make a huge difference as compared to a ground rod. I fought that battle when I first installed my dx commander.

Adjust whip to what you going to use, 10,20,40 etc. need a coil for 40

I tried the elevated resonated counterpoise and wow, what a difference, just 2 counterpoise the length of the 1/4 wave ,and same for the whip, made poland,belgium,croacia, Slovenia the 1st try.
