How to make a satisfying render:
Step 1: Delete friction
Step 2: Make all collisions keep energy, not dispelling any of it
Step 3: Make 2+ things be in sync.
Step 4 (Optional): Have motion that is impossible even with Steps 1 & 2 in place.
5:53 thingy curves its path in air
6:17 ball goes up farther than it goes down
Step 5 : make amogus blender😳😳 done!!
Or in simpler words, make all collisions elastic
Why is the sound design so terrifying
Because its is repetitive
ikr
True tho
Yes it is quiet horror
I think some people call that dramatization.
Honestly, the tape at 3:21 is the absolute best for me, since I can never tape anything perfectly straight in real life, no matter how hard I try. A dream come true!
damn, you’re right
That was my least fav, I didn’t like the sound and how slow it was going
There’s such a fine line between satisfying and anxiety inducing and very few actually get to be satisfying for me lol
OMFG MY EXACT COMMENT
Yeah, all of these animations are giving me the creeps. Is it the textures used? The shapes themselves? The mixture of the different "materials"? The animation? I really don't know why, but definitely not satisfying.
Same, for me it's that the gravity feels off on most of them. Amazing render quality and the cleverness of the machines is top notch though!
@@joshhuggins Definitely agree on gravity. It feels like things are hanging in the air and then *suddenly* accelerating down. Like gravity isn't consistent throughout the trajectory.
@@superdau
It's the motion. The objects don't obey Newtonian physics at all.
I'm not sure what's even supposed to be going on with the first animation.
In the second animation the object 1) Should be top heavy, but isn't. That means it will should accelerate when the heavy part rolls down and slow down when the heavy part rolls up. Not only that, but the velocity should change with distance it falls or climbs. Yet all acceleration is instantaneous, and seems to have 0 correlation with height..
Third animation. The balls don't "bounce" when the tiles go down and they have next to 0 forward or rotational momentum. Yet somehow they manage to climb the step up into their holes, and do so without even losing any momentum. Super unnatural.
Fourth animation's issues are obvious. The marble isn't balanced. It should just fall. There's literally nothing about the marble's momentum that would cause it to "correct" and wobble back onto the track neatly like that.
Fitfh Animation: The height of the catching container changes as it sways back and forth, yet the balls and perspective don't convey that at all. The perspective is very unnatural. Akin to an optical illusion rather than an actual motion.
Sixth Animation: Same issue as animation #2. The ball doesn't accelerate smoothly as it falls and climbs. It just rockets down like it was pushed and abruptly slows down as it reaches the top when the velocity
Seventh Animation: Same issue.
Eight Animation: Nothing is pushing on the things as they pop off. There's literally 0 reason for them to be ejected like that, and even there were enough force they should ALWAYS have a counterclockwise rotation. That's where the force is being applied. Yet they randomly rotate in the opposite direction half the time. It's like shoving an object away from you and watching it roll toward you as a result. Doesn't make sense.
Ninth animation: The ball of tape is frictionless, and the roller doesn't seem to be applying any actual force to the tape. Otherwise there would be more bending of the tape.
etc. etc. etc.
The animations throw out Newtonian physics entirely.
Being a 3D artist, I can hear those GPUs cry....
O my god same
Although I have never fully rendered an animation like this

@@TheAechBomb i don't know ahhaha
I think part of the reason this is so unsettling, other than the sound design, is how "off" the physics and appearance are. It's almost like an Uncanny Valley effect, but for physics.
I don't normally get the uncanny valley effect when looking at things like the AGI known as "Sophia" (the one with the clay face), but this video definitely gave me that physics version of the uncanny valley effect.
i'm on the same boat, i can look at any robot or animation and feel nothing. but the physics being screwed so much... ugh... it hurts...

I can see this being very unsatisfying for physicists though
Extremely
It hurts me
That mede it a little less satisfying
I was thinking the exact same thing
Why? What's off?
Imagine, you have been out, lost in a forest for 3 days, it’s night and you don’t know what to do but trudge on. Eventually it starts to rain. You groan and lift your head up to see what’s in front of you, and you see... a light. You breath a sigh of relief as you make out the silhouette of a small house. As you approach it, you notice tiny carvings in the walls, like paths for a ball cut in half. You figure there must be someone home as you slowly creak open the old door. Inside is a small room, “the living room,” you think to yourself, filled with multiple glass boxes, each containing a contraption. (These you saw in the video) as you gaze in wonder at the marvelous creations, the door creaks open. I’ll leave the rest of the story up to you.
The door then closes again. Seems like it was just the wind. You start feeling hopeless, but at least you have all these satisfying things to look at. It is at that moment, that the door creaks open again, this time without any wind involved... Oh no, seems like it's just a tree branch. You remove the (not very heavy) tree branch as it might disrupt all the contraptions and close the door again after looking around if there is anyone around. There seems nobody nearby. Then, someone appears from a hidden opening in the floor. They say: "Hello, I am the proud owner of this house of contraptions. Aren't they nice?" (Someone else continues the story now)
You wip your hed around and there's a small gnome peeking out from the floor. He introduces himself as wisp and says he will teach you how to build the wonderful contraptions you just found (someone continue)
After a all day of learning the technics, the gnome takes you to underground where Is the bed room. Luckly he has two beds so you take a big nap. The next day you woke up earlier then the gnome. So you walk up the stairs into the living room after having a wonderful coffe the gnome wokes up and makes his own version of coffe (kakao: poor a milk into some cup then put it in microwave for 40 seconds, then put three spoons of sugar and two spoons of "Granko" in and mix it up. And woala you have trditional czech coffe for kids....) And then you hear a bunch of police vehicles go by on the nearest road So in the afternoon you And the gnome Are going on the walk to dicover what happend down the road. You ask an officer what happend aaand sadly it was a triple homicide. So then you go back home learning those technics about the satisfying things. Its almost night and you are going to sleep but as you close your eyes the door to the living room was agresivly opend And than you hear a voice screaming "FREEZE" 5 mili seconds later the voice screams again but Now it says "TAZER TAZER TAZER" (somebody falls on floor) And after 1 min you go up stairs and police officer tells you that the guy that runed up into your hause was the suspect from the triple homicide....... (Someone continue)
Im sorry
Im just here to say the story is awesome

4:47 this one right here, it ain't relaxing. It gives my anxiety attacks....
it reminds me of a ball being hit off a curb..
How is this one anxiety?
For someone studying physics, lots of these are actually just infuriating because you can immediately just know that they aren't physically possible. The ones that are the best are the ones that are physically possible but would require levels of precision tolerance are unreasonable for the real world.
some of them i tried explaining away with light material+magnets+camera tomfoolery, but it isnt very satisfying sometimes. they do fit as loading screens tho
Yeah, there's a lot of perpetual motion going on. I just imagine that there's some hidden motor powering them cancelling out the friction losses. The first one nailed it with its steam piston though.
"Lisa, in this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!"
I don't know why, but this is more agonizing than satisfying
5:08 did anyone also notice that the balls are actually moving in straight lines?

animations like the ones at 2:41 and some other ones would be satisfying if they didnt add the creepy sound effects and music
now that ive watched more of this video i really dont understand but some of these animations are so erie and unsettling

I don't know how, but you've perfectly captured the texture of the sounds of various materials contacting each other.
Do they or do they just capture what you expect to hear? How much time do you spend listening to solid copper marbles bouncing around or dragging objects across bowls?
I suspect real life examples of these wouldn't be nearly as melodic or crisp without considerable work being put in to ensure they were.
