This work should have been written for viola originally. She has beautiful control and expression. Just the right amount of vibrato. Every printed note can be heard. Intonation almost perfect. A wonderful performance - bravo!
@@walterbushell7029 It is other times. We dont know about their instruments, players, strings, etc. If Bach lives today he wanna write things that arent possible during his time.
This piece is such a monster. It’s the same four-measure progression, appearing in 64 variations, but I defy anyone to say it sounds repetitive. The structure is amazing, the technical demands extraordinary, and the emotional/musical/spiritual effect is profound. It’s really one of the most incredible pieces of music ever written, and I never get tired of hearing it or playing it (which I will never do in public, lol).
i dont think she does . this is what bach has left behind. a whole lot of interpretation and arguements . i think she did a terrible job interpretatively, no doubt she is a class A viola player , not so much of a musician
@@solukhumbu911 Every written piece in every genre is left to interpretation --- it's not as though Bach failed us in some way. Just listen to the great cellists, and the many examples of how their interpretation of the Solo Cello Sontatas changed from the recordings they made when they were young, vis-a-vis when they were older. You can't blame Bach for that. It's a silly idea.
Your performance transported me to Heaven, Hell and Purgatory where I realized there is no such thing as music ... only love. Thank you for defining that through your connection with the Divine expressing the sublime as Bach's sonic poetry hoped to share with mankind. Many thanks.
I love the idea of using a baroque bow! Very well played. The viola is definitely the most suited instrument for this piece after the violin. It doesn't quite give you the same intensity as the violin but has a calming presence about it
Ovación de pie!! Si el original en violín es casi imposible, en viola debe ser más que imposible. Magistral, sólida técnica, sonoridad impecable y excelente musicalidad!
@@vijayraghavan6383Because the song was made for violins. And violins have a string that reaches higher notes than the violas highest string. So basically the viola player has to shift and play notes high on their instrument to succeed in violin songs. Hopefully this cleared it uo
One has to be extremely foolhardy or even braver to attempt this transcription in a public concert. Senorita Cordero leaves one awestruck with her concentration and the articulation of all its elements and undoubtedly has appropriated this for the viola repertoire. The hours of painstaking work that must have gone into preparing it are so absorbed that it seems as though written for her instrument. It is a struggle to play on a viola but the only sign of that was in her facial tensions from time to time and not in the music. Presumably it was the G minor transcription? Some viola too!
@@CristinaPatricia You earned them and more but I always feel it a pity that the Chaconne is taken out of its context in which Bach lead one to it with great care.
I heard it while reading the sheet music. It sounds so perfect. After watching this video, I wanted to play this song like you. Maybe it will take about 20 years or more. :) Thank you for playing!
This rendition competes with Hilary Hahn's for my favorite. I love the way Hahn starts the first arpeggio section, but your rhythm through the whole opening is just sublime...
Inspiring. I will be off to transcribe this one too. Your performance of Vieuxtemps Capriccio for viola inspired me as well. The music is laying right in front of me as I type this. Thank you.

Okay, that's a good challenge) All the best.
Is there any instrument left behind that the Chaconne was not described for it. I would say it is the number one piece that was mostly transcribed . Christina does wonderful so we do not miss the original violin. the pleasure we get listening to it from these super players is the same as the violin.
Bestial!
Bravo! I really enjoyed hearing this on viola. Two things that jump out at me: 1. The bottom ends/roots of the arpeggios and double stops in this piece really jump out at you here vs the standard violin version. I don't know if that is a function of dropping it a fifth or the audio, but as a violist myself, I like it. Puts a different focus point on the music and to me, makes it feel more counterpointal (if that is a word). 2. That baroque bow really allows you to get the full width of hair on the strings for the stops. I'm going to remember that trick.
This is a truly monumental work to have performed at this level of musicality and technical excellence at 20!! Nonetheless in an entire violist’s career. You were already superb technically and created wonderful music, but this elevates you to another echelon of viola!
Not sure why the commenter feels the authentic voice of the piece must be for the viola? It is a magnificent cathedral of human experience for violin, added choral lines, viola, cello and even double bass. I do think the transcription for viola, inherently because of the lower range of the viola misses (diminishes) some of the searing intensity of the higher register of the violin especially as showcased in great violin performances like Heifetz in the 1930s and in his last recorded televized performance, Szeryng's mono recording, Milstein's last studio Bach solo violin recording and Menhuin's last studio recording as well. Regardless, it still works well on the viola!
Cristina, please, tell us a bit about the instrument that you are playing! Old? New? Who made it? The dark colour of the varnish reminds me of the viola Máté Szücs is playing. Anyhow, you produce a lovely sound on it.

Super !!! Bravo!!! Que dites vous de cette version de la chaconne également joué à l'alto? Elle est sortie il n'y pas longtemps ; ua-cam.com/video/e5y_r_-mbK4/v-deo.html
Feels like because of the sound box of the viola is too big, that the high notes on the viola are not are clear as it could have been. This may sound foolish but I think a well made 3/4 size viola may make the sound of overall performance sound more justly and closer to where you are envisioning it to be.
Violas don't come in fractional sizes. The sizes are in inches or centimeters Such as 15.5 inches or 39.1 centimeters. Since there's no standard size of "full size" like there is for violin, bass, and cello so the violist picks a viola size based on their measurements and ideal sound. Adult violists can play anything from 15 to 17 inches with increments in between such as .5, .75, and even 1/8
