    I think the reason why this is the greatest Christmas film ever made is because, even though this is a Christmas film, you could watch it at any time. If you saw something like Klaus or A Christmas Carol during spring or summer, it would feel a bit weird. But you could watch this film at any time of the year and still have a blast!

    • @rickyrayrosenberg420
      @rickyrayrosenberg420 3 роки тому +16

      Yeah - its not really about Christmas. Its about love, life, despair, and loss - and at the very end hope. Its like opening Pandora's box. You see this man laid bare - all his hopes and dreams dashed again and again - but in the end he finds out - he was the fulcrum on which the whole world turned for a huge mass of people. He was the pivot point that changed their life. All the failures and loss are vastly overblown by the fact that this man meant to much to so many. Its life affirming and hopeful. It tells everyone their life means more than just their temporary stress. Its a precious wonderful thing.
      Thats what is means to me anyway. All these people were long dead before I was born - but their life lives on. I hope in a thousand years asteroid belt miners are watching Its a Wonderful Life. Its timeless.

      @@rickyrayrosenberg420 I guess you are right. Violet (Gloria Graham) walks past Ernies taxi in a close-fitting summer dress and she catches the eye of the 3 guys who look at her.

    Gets me everytime.. this movie brings me back to my childhood and Christmas past...Sometimes we forget to be grateful...

    • @JamesBrown-wy7xs
      @JamesBrown-wy7xs 2 роки тому +3

      Love and gratitude are the ultimate medicine! They may not save all from physical disease (though they certainly help to prevent them from happening in the first place), but they CAN, and DO, save one's soul (from needless suffering).
      As a human, there's no way around suffering, but there are states of suffering along a spectrum, and only those individuals whom feel and express genuine love, compassion and gratitude get to experience the highest reaches of the desirable end of that spectrum.
      Existence is essentially an ongoing lesson on how to best deal with bitter-sweetness. Most people unconsciously opt to fight for an eternal state of tasting the sweet, while simultaneously trying to suppress, or outright ignore, the bitter, and they actually suffer a lot more for it. The reasons for the extra suffering are many, but top among them is the unmistakable reality that nothing can be possessed forever. The fact of the human condition is that death is inevitable and, therefore, so too is loss.
      It's only the few among us who look on themselves, and others, with genuine love and compassion that put an end to this, and other, unnecessary sorrows, by, among other reasons, learning to accept the bitter with the sweet, and having the courage to face whatever feelings or emotions arise from approaching life from that perspective.
      Yes, "the truth hurts", but, yes, too, "it's always darkest before the dawn"! ...and the dawn does come!
      So, whenever you feel a great deal more love and/or gratitude within you than you normally do, see if you can make it a habit to turn that "positive energy" inward, directed entirely at yourself. See if you can turn that positive emotional state into a tool for forgiving yourself, and others (of anything that comes to mind), as well as creating more self-awareness, such that you can see through any lies that you may be telling yourself.
      REMOVE ALL PRETENSIONS!!!
      There is NO liberator that is more freeing than coming to full honesty!

      @@fredblahblah.6352
      Should you genuinely delve into self-introspection, you'd acknowledge that certainty concerning the existence of an entity such as God remains elusive. Your strongest conviction might stem from a profound, personal encounter with a force reminiscent of your concept of God-a concept possibly shaped by sources like the Bible. However, this encounter could merely be a powerful figment of your imagination, amplified particularly in altered states of consciousness.
      Unfiltered, genuine honesty can often be harsh, challenging our deeply held beliefs and the comforting deceptions upon which we construct our self-identity. It is unsurprising, then, that we shield ourselves from disconcerting truths as our very notion of "self" relies on them.
      Regardless of the existence of a divine entity or entities, it's undeniable that individuals tend to endure unnecessary suffering until they muster the courage to confront their own fallacies down to their roots. They must face the harsh realities of their predicament, perceived as ugly by the ego yet beautiful from the standpoint of the unblemished "soul." In essence, much of our suffering emanates from our misconceived perception of reality. Therefore, recognizing the falsehoods in our self-beliefs and self-judgments is a crucial step towards personal enlightenment or "salvation."
      Compassion and unconditional love stem from first genuinely and deeply forgiving oneself for personal blunders and mistakes. However, such forgiveness is unlikely until one manages to confront oneself with unwavering honesty.
      So, yes, I stand firmly by my previous points (in that comment that you replied to). REAL HONESTY, with oneself, is the KEY.

    I normally watch Grand Prix, terminator , aliens etc but this film is the best feel good movie ever made. Everything that is good about mankind captured in this film. I hope it never gets remade as nothing beats the original.

      A good part of This Capra Classic was filmed near My Grandparents' & My Dad's old West Hollywood/Beverly Hills neighborhood just after WW11 in 1946 & part of this Movie was filmed in the Uniquely designed BHHS WW11 Underground gym

    Christmas classic. I watch this every year. I remember in high school a girl from Mexico who looked like Donna Reed, her mom remarried a US Army guy and she and her mom and brother lived right next to the school.
    She actually got married after high school to a good friend of mine, but their marriage didn't last. He moved to Florida.
    One half hour into this classic, the movie gets really serious and sad. Great movie. Never gets old. A politically charged movie too. That's why I love it.

    I heard about this movie for years but never watched it...thought it was just an old boring movie. I don’t know what possessed me to watch it but m glad I did. Lesson: don’t have such a narrow mind

    As someone who loves sci fi and action movies, I was not expecting to like this movie very much since it is not the type that I usually like. However, this has to be one of the best movies I have ever watched and made me a little emotional as well. My favorite Christmas movie (other than Die Hard).

    I am thankful for men of tge oast like George Kapra who saw something in Jimmy Stewart after thd war. He was in the air force & a lot of his buddies were killed. Jimmy took the role and -- more than acting -- he was for real in his role -- yes -- to leave one in tears . Interesting loints to ponder : he gave up his dream to travel continue his dad's buisness,he helped those through that buisness to live their dream,he sacrificed his marriage money to save the Bailey buisness. Finally -- he realized " The Greatest Gift" ( original title) - the life God gave him . Yes ,it's a wonderful movie --- and awonderful lfe . Especially if it's all for God......
