James Stewart’s screams for Clarence’s help, breaking down into sobs, as he pleads for the chance to just LIVE again, has my vote for the most powerful moment of acting in any movie, ever.

I disagree. That's only a movie, not real life. In real life Mary would be sleeping with Sam Wainwright and George would go to jail. Nobody would help him. George is a failure, because he had a chance to work for Potter and make something of himself. Like me, George failed himself, his wife and kids, just like myself, sad to say.@@josetirado3680

As a combat vet when I see him breaking down and crying it takes me back and I can understand his emotions. When I see them all standing and singing Auld Lang Syne you see in each of them another year of life passing and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Hands down the best Christmas movie ever lade even compared to now.
Another bit of irony is that in the movie he was deemed 4F for his hearing and his brother a decorated pilot when in reality Jimmy Stewart was a decorated pilot who saw it all over there and served with honor.

I majored in English, but I was never able to teach. However, I told a number of teachers what I would do with this film. I would assign an essay where the student would explain what they felt the world would be like if THEY had never been born. It is truly an overwhelming thought to find out what contributions you made in your life. I also believe anyone contemplating abortion or suicide needs to see this film and make a list of what would happen in this world without a certain person because, as Clarence said, "You really had a wonderful life, George. Wouldn't it be a shame to throw it all away?

We so easily define our success by whether or not we make enough money or have enough assets that we fail to realize that when you have abundance of family and friends, who love you you’re already rich. I would rather be rich with friends and family that love and care about me Then to be the wealthiest man and be alone. I couldn’t live like that I don’t care how rich I was. That was the contrast between George Bailey and Mr. Potter.

Rich people get away with a lot. That's still true. What happens in real life is what should get people shocked and furious.
But as far as the movie, the whole point was that Potter may have gotten away with stealing the $8000, but he still lost. He was, as the movie says, a warped frustrated old man. George was the one who was truly rich, in the ways that mater.

    • @sueprice3315

Don't see it that way. It showed how much goes wrong if THIS particular person was not born, because he was a good person. But a movie of Potter never having been born would show how much better things would have been for everyone. Same is true in real life. The world would have been better if Hitler, Ted Bunny, and other evil people had never been born.
