Just wanted to say that I appreciate you guys being able to follow along. This show is very jargon heavy and doesn't do a lot of exposition for the audience, but you guys seem to catch the important details (as well as many of the smaller ones. You'll be surprised how many reactors don't know about General Mattis and his signficance). Behind all of the military terminology and crude jokes lies a very poignant show about the uncomfortable nature of Contemporary Warfare, and it's a shame that the authentic portrayal of military life (the jargon and the uncomfortable subject matter) is a barrier of entry for many viewers.

They don’t offer criminals service option anymore… that was something they did during the Vietnam war when we drafted people; there are enough psychopaths in the military. Military service nowadays is an honor not a punishment.

You guys should react to generation war. It's a mini series from the German perspective on ww2 and a true story.

It's an odd feeling watching this series after finishing Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Both of those series were about World War II, and so there was a feeling that even though the characters were going through hell, what they were involved in was a just and necessary fight against fascism. It also all happened so long ago that you can distance yourself from it; the men involved grew up during the Depression, had never watched TV or played a video game, and listened to the kind of music most of us have no connection to. We might admire them, but in many ways their life experiences were alien to us.
And then there's Generation Kill. When the show was released, it was just a few years after the invasion, and even now the real people involved in the series are mostly still in their early forties. They know (and sing) the lyrics to songs many of us instantly recognize, make references to pop culture many of us instantly catch on to, and have generally had life experiences many of us feel a lot more connection to than the experiences of the World War II generation.
And the war they're fighting? Pretty much universal recognition in 2021 that it was a catastrophic mistake. Since Trump, even many Republicans appear to be ready to acknowledge that fact.

crypto is for the radio. Used to keep the enemy from listening to your comms. The crypto changes after a certain period and if you don't have the right crypto, you lose radio comms.

Almost after every mission crypto changes that what makes it such headache to keep up with. On training sometimes you would skip on that part but deployment it changes every mission.
