Mari Sundell. Actually his singing is weak (faky..) People were impressed by the guitar playing. But they wouldn t like the singing that much. Like an unconscious feeling. He s been manipulated by the industry. Family should have been wiser end send him to berklee or something. I heard he had a hard time when he became an adult. Check out freddy king. He shouted the blues but abolutely no out of key notes. Muddy waters could mumble and shout. Same. John lee hooker would never shout. It s sad but johnny lang wasn t that in time. Close but not in time. Like mick jagger lets say. That s why the guy sings so strange. Lots of time and energy wasted. Too bad
When I said I like listening to him I didn't mean his voice I love his guitar playing just some of his videos he seems a little to put on..maybe not but no I don't care for his vocals and generally I do love to watch guitar player working his craft, there's nothing sweeter actually but just something about johnny that rubs me wrong I guess peace
Mari Sundell yep that s what i mean. He s out of time. I used to like him when i was his age and jamming around town like i want to be johnny lang myself. But now time has past and i still sing and play. i don t get fooled or fool myself with his singing and played. His back guitar guy is the actual Man on the guitar. Kid was manipulated. That s the nicest thing to say. Peace
Jonny becomes totally the essence of what he's singing about. That emotional strength and authority is so rare. Check out Janis Joplin as another example of this high art.
Definitely the most Steve Ray inspired performance and probably my favorite performance of Quitter Never Wins I've seen him perform. He was so much more raw and bluesy when he was young.
5 minutes in I feel like the. Ghost of Jimi Hendrix is creeping in. Woe. This is truly amazing. I also as Johnny Lang. Is born in 1981. So y'all KNOW I'm feelin this vibe tonight. And forever more.....
I remember back in 97 I was just a teen back in India when his first album came out Lie To Me, I was 16 and was blown away by the fact that a kid just an year older than me could sing and play the blues like he could. Some people are blessed with talent. Shame he didn't turn big, cause he's really good.
I posted the text below for his video "on the darker side" last year...Still keep hoping he will get back to these roots and style of playing... What a talent....jlg... God Blessed this young man with the gift of music and the blissful pain of the blues... It pours out of every pore he embodies... And to be only 16 when this was recorded has the chops of those such as Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Gary Moore, and just a few others that I believe were not as talented as he is... I wish he would come back to these roots, although he is still very talented today, just a little more refined and defined... This was raw and real... An amazing celebration of the blues at such a young age... I have been watching and listening to him since the very beginning, and this is my favorite live show he performed. I got the chance to see him in Indianapolis at the vogue in 1998, and he was absolutely phenomenal, basically playing this same set... He opened for Little feet, and blew them off the stage... Maybe he peaked too young... But no one can say that this music will ever lose it's raw realness and life, pain, and hope... All parts of being alive...
One of life's pleasures is seeing Jonny Lang live but then one day you got it all and it disappears fast...but ya gotta remember...A QUITTER NEVER WINS...
I feel in love with this 'Kid' back in '97 and vocally campaigned to anyone who would listen about this phenomenal 16 year old who captured my soul and caught the ears of so many highly respected blues musicians. Started out as Kid Jonny Lang and the Big Bang. I saw him live in Indiana with Susan Tedeschi, another teenage incredulous talent (now married to Derek Trucks of the Allman Bros.), who opened for him and about lost it. Wish he would have stayed single and not gotten into finding God (my personal opinion, of course). Marriage to a model tends to distract so many great talents. Will still always love him, though he's "breakin' me".
Linda Burfield Come on. Johnny lang? There are many sixteen year old who don t don t do shit when they are 25. It only takes good ears and a teacher to be kid johnny lang or monster mike whelsh or susan tedeschi. But its a different story to be Prince, the kid of cincinnatti or freddy king the texan bull or maybe jj cale, i don t know. When one doesn t make it in the industry it s nobody s fault. Maybe one should just work on a better new song better new album better singing better playing.
Thx for the post, made me remember why I first started listening to Johnny! This style of playing from Johnny is astounding, full of passion, intense blues! Johnny, we need some more of tie old style. As a musician I understand the change at times in generes, expanding the horizons, please add some of your old styles as well, you ripped so fine Johnny! Cheers, cya on stage
I was there at that time, just in the right corner of the scene near the right camera. Huge memories, amazing show. and his cover of this song is one of a kind, what's define him the most... Now he's kinda lost :) But I'll give him a chance tonite with his comeback to the New Morning ;)
Back again to this to just visit the un-fucking-believable talent... at 16 yrs old when recorded... He was 16 years, and 7 days old here... still holding only a drivers beginners permit... Well fuck, if he could play a fucking guitar like that... I'm pretty sure he can drive a fucking car...
i've seen a lot of so called 'best video ever' videos but hey, it ain't a lie this time! (and no jonny, it's not because you asked me to lie to you that i say this ;))
I’m 73 and still listening to this phenomenal guitarist. Who’s still listening in 2024?

Since the beginning. We’re almost the same age, I was amazed someone as young as me had this much raw talent. I miss this style of his.
Hell yeah! Him and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter.
Watching in Feb 2021 ✌️
Love it. Still listening. Saw him in Richmond Va many years ago. I have seen many concerts but I almost could not believe my ears !!
Jonny's talent is enormous, he was born with blues in his veins...I am blown away!

Got his first plantium at 15.
Arguably one of the premier guitar players of our time..
He is amazing! Never got the recognition he deserved.
Kristen Almonte maybe a little valium would have helped

Wow. I forgot how raw his older performances were. Chills, baby, chills...
I remember when Jonny Lang first came out. I was totally astounded and blown away by his guitar playing and talent. Fabulous!!
cj jae hell yeah
And how YOUNG he was with that heavy, grown voice!
I have listened to him since he was 13 yrs old and now he is 39, wow we getting old.... I am 4 yrs older than him.
OMG!!! He just alwz gave 110% & can't stop lovin his amazing gift!!!
Born with a guitar pick in his hand and a lifetime of understanding the blues.
Still the most mindblowing performance of this song EVER
he was 16 years old when he played that, wow :o
His vibrato on the main hook riff is absolutely PERFECT! I hope someday he can get back to performing...
He has both the deep soulful singing and the amazing guitar playing. Both
I can't understand why he is not listed as lone of the greatest guitar players ,and has never won any awards!
Music just isn't made like this anymore..
So true. Doesn't have heart anymore.
Have you been to your local live blues bar lately?
Jonny becomes totally the essence of what he's singing about. That emotional strength and authority is so rare. Check out Janis Joplin as another example of this high art.
Jonny plays and sing with so........much emotion! like no other!
