@Home Studio Gear Reviews:: This cable is not proprietary. It's a mini-DIN connector, which was widely used in computer peripherals, namely keyboards and mouses, before USB was introduced in the 90's. Musical instruments never really made a transition from DIN to mini-DIN, probably because mini-DIN is more fragile and not designed to be connected and disconnected multiple times. If you lose your cable, you can find a replacement pretty easily on Amazon or eBay.
@richardgomes5420 and yet if you manage to find that kind of cable with both connectors you still cannot be sure that the wires are properly soldered to where they should be, as there's not just a single standard by any means for mini-Din connectors, so there's a high risk of breaking and bricking your iRig Keys I/O 49 which is not cheap by any means and not updating the package contents by @ikmultimedia feels like a steal when you need to purchase their own cable for $50, which is truly a steal in my opinion, and I feel really disappointed to not be able to play with it RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX as @ikmultimedia states with my Mac, my iPhone nor my iPad...
Best damn review I've seen so far. Answers every question I have other than using it for live performance. "this jawn is 8 feet long" made me lol. Absolutely crazy pricing for power cord and replacement proprietary usb cables.
Thanks for taking the time to do this! Much appreciated. You mentioned that you'd never seen a audio interface/midi controller in one package - Line 6 made one a number of years ago. It was called the KB37, a 37 note keyboard with 2 Mic preamps, 2 line in options (separate from the XLR in), stereo out, etc. I'm looking to replace mine since I can't make it work with a Mac or iPad. Your review helped a lot, cheers!
SEE other comments here as to why the device cable is not technically proprietary. I have seen them online from 3rd parties, IF you need the USB-C or lightening version you may have to go to IK multimeida or Sweetwater. This would insure it has the correct pin config for midi use. They come in several lengths. In any case...have an extra in your gig bag, because the nearest music shop may not have any in stock.
@Home Studio Gear Reviews:: MIDI is standard and it should work just fine with Android too, given that you install a synthesizer software on Android, such as FluidSynth, and you employ an adapter cable such as USB-A to USB-C or maybe USB-A to mini USB-A cable, in case of old mobile phones.
One question,...on the stereo audio out, does/can it route your ipad audio to these outputs? I'd like to take audio from my ipad to my M Audio interface.
Very cool review video! Helpful. One question, the encoder knobs, are they endless? Or do they have a beginning and end? Means: If you load a new sound for example and use a knob for the first time, does the value jump to its absolute value (like they all do with non-endless knobs) oder does it just change in relation, how endless knobs always behave? Thanks!
The review was very comprehensive. Thank you. Could you please let me know how you feel after owning this for over 2 years now. As far as i can see, there is no successor of this keyboard. There is only irig keys 2 pro.. which has stayed out of stock here for over an year now. Also, iPads are shifting to USB- C so i am really confused whether i should go with i/0 16/49 or wait for irig pro2 or simply go with novation launchkey 37 ( and have a separate interface later with the spare money). I am going to use ios a lot! My laptop isn’t very good right now. So what would you suggest
I would say get this STILL. I like the size and keys AND it has a built in audio interface XLR which is Super clutch... by now they probably have come down in price too. Hope this helps
It is 2024 and this is still the all around keyboard to have.I am in no way an expert ( I am still learning midi) yet two of my buddies are professional and use them every weekend at a variety of gigs. This iRig keys I/O came down slightly in 2022-23 but are now hovering in the low $300's. I feel it is well worth that price
hey. If you are interested working on Mac and would like to have an integration with Garage Band both are useless in the same way: IrigKeys i/o - control keys (start/stop/knobs) doesnt work with Garage Band on Big Sur macOS (older mac on intel) and Arturia either doesnt has the integrated software. When you got Arturia their packet of synths is controlled by knobs and faders - the same with IrigKeys - knobs work when you play Syntronik (really cool packet of sounds, fully edited in SE version you can authorize with the product).
Hi there , any of you guys have problems with the sustain pedal? I can’t make it work . I already try my pedal with my other keyboard and it works fine . It just with the Irig keys
might need to change the pedals polarity. Sometimes there is a switch on the pedal. Other times you can change it on the keyboard, though I'm not sure about this one
That's not what it says, it says charging can only happen for iOS devices, not for Android. This is because they sell an AC Adapter to power the device and it can be used to charge your tablet as well.
does it has a dedicated volume knob for the monitor and headphone out? Not sure if the knob on this is only for plugin parameters or it works as a volume control for monitors as well.
Can anyone find where to buy in the UK a power supply with a usb end so you can power off a power bank , if such a thing exists (a work around is a phone adapter taking a usb charger but not ideal)
I just got my iRig keyboard and I have no experience with equipment like this. I plugged it into my phone and it lit up, but no sound comes out. Does it have to be hooked up to speakers in order to hear the sound?
Has anyone figured out how to play this on an iPad ( I have a 6th Gen ) and have the sound play through the iPad itself? I know the audio interface is not built for it but there’s got to be a way to revert the device’s sound output to the iPad?
@@To_var I'm an old guy so the DIN stuff was a standard when I started. Crazy that they used it on this, though. If USB can carry the signal on the other end why can't they make it work for both?

You don’t need a longer cable. Just get a USB extension. I have a couple always coming out of my PC so I don’t have to keep crawling under my desk.
super clutch!!

many thanks, much appreciated! : ) Come back soon
Thank you for the honest opinion and pointing out the plug design. I'd definitely get a usb extension for it.
true

Im also looking to replace my beloved Line 6 Kb37 and cant find anything similar, what did you decide on?
@@nahmy I went with the iRig Keys IO. It comes with a truly amazing library of sounds. Well worth the price, even without the sounds.
@@NodRoland thanks mate, i think ill do the same...looks like what i need
very welcome :)

The size of unit is insane for 49 full size keys

yes it seems to be an endless knob - the list repeats when you get past the "end"
I wonder why their midi keyboard is not as popular as the others. Their Miroslav Philharmonik software is awesome though
Yeah Miroslav was cool a few years ago. Berlin Strings got it on lock now imo
Hello, I am not a pro . I sometimes need to transpose half or full note . Does the kB has this function ? Thanks
Does it only work with iOS or can I use is like a standard 5 pin midi to my Yamaha DTX Multi 12?

It will charge your lightning port iPad too when using a power adapter.
sweet!
Great video, have you had issues with the keyboard in regards to connectivity or stuff like that?
nope, have you??
Can the unit be powered just from the laptop’s USB port? Or does it require a powered USB-hub, batteries or the AC adapter?
Thanks
Hi, would you go for this instead of Arturia Keylab Essential 49?
hey. I haven't checked that one out yet but thanks for bringing it up. Might be next!
Is it possible to assign a different midi channel to the pads?
hmm, I'm not really sure. If you discover, please let us know
i got this as a gift, i have connected it an its working, but i don;t play on all keys, how do i get the transpose setting< help please
good questions. I would honestly adjust the transpose from inside the DAW however
Awesome Video! Thanks dude.
no doubt, come back soon ! : )

must be connected to a DAW or virtual instrument

Try software called Audiobus, worked for me in a different type of situation but should work for this too.
Sweet!
Si! : )

amazon
Nice video
thank you
Compatible with Mojave?
I think that's a PS/2 port, and yes it's the port used by old mice and keyboards
thanks Jose
You're right that it's like a PS/2 port but PS/2 is based on DIN standard (Deutsches Institut für Normung). This is a Mini-DIN. Good eye, though!
NodRoland hey thanks for the info, I was seriously thinking what was that thing doing there
@@To_var I'm an old guy so the DIN stuff was a standard when I started. Crazy that they used it on this, though. If USB can carry the signal on the other end why can't they make it work for both?

yes
wait. there are no line-i n for instruments? damn that is pretty dissapointing. but considering the price, yeah i cant ask for more
No midi out and it don't work with Mac OS 10.9.5
oh man sorry to hear and thanks for letting us know
Does it work with Bluetooth headphones like AirPods while still keeping the interface activated to reduce latency?
I think the headphones would be connected via Bluetooth to your device not the keyboard. It doesn’t have bt function only an aux headphone out
Too bad there's no USB-C cable or Android compatibility! It would also be great if that stand locked in place.

Can he work in Huawei and Samsung?
?
No, he said that it doesn't work with Android.
That looks sorta like a 6 pin midi plugin
right , such a strange proprietary plug
Last link dead
ahhh word? good look, fixing this now
