being able to play both of these songs while switching between two instruments flawlessly is an athletic accomplishment honestly. none of these songs repeat any words and rarely repeat chord progressions. i can't imagine the amount of practice this took. not to mention writing all of it??? joanna newsom is other worldly.
Hearing "Time, as a Symptom" right before "Anecdotes"... wow. Such a flawless transition. Eternal Recurrence made music. A not-so cruel birth that does not debase.
I was there. She opened with 'Sadie' and I was immediately crying. I absolutely lost my shit when she played these 2 songs. She played at the same theatre the next night and the only songs that were in the setlist again were these 2.
Broooo, I hope you get to see her perform at least once. Her artistry is unreal and seeing it live is transcending. I was there at this performance and literally my only regret in life is not seeing her perform the next night. She's the greatest recording artist of all time.
Sending the first scouts over Back from the place beyond the dawn Horse, bear your broken soldier Eyes frozen wide at what went on And time, in our camp, is moving As you'd anticipate it to But what is this sample proving? Anecdotes cannot say what Time may do I kid with rufous nightjar When our men are all asleep It ain't about how rare you are But how hard you are to see Take, you and me When are you from, said he In our blind of winter leaves As we sighted out their fliers In the grayscale of the night And fumbled on the bare ground To bury round landmines While the dew lay down and dried We signal private poorwill, when morning starts to loom: Pull up from your dive Till we hear the telltale Boom Too soon Hotdogging loon, caught there Like a shard of mirror in the moon Now they've stopped giving orders But i follow anyway Laying in our state of torpor Waiting out the day While the dew burns away Rushing, tearing, speeding home Bound to a wheel that is not my own Where round every bend I long to see Temporal infidelity All along the road, the lights stream by I want to go where the dew won't dry I want to go where the light won't bend Far as the eye may reach, nor end But inasmuch as that light is loaned And, insofar as we've borrowed bones Must every debt now be repaid In star-spotted, sickle-winged night raids While we sing to the garden, and we sing to the stars And we sing in the meantime Wherever you are? In the folds and the branches Somewhere, out there I was only just born into open air Now hush, little babe You don't want to be Down in the trenches Remembering with me Where you will not mark my leaving And you will not hear my parting song Nor is there cause for grieving Nor is there cause for carrying on And daughter, when you are able Come down and join, the kettle's on And your family's round the table Will you come down, before the sun is gone?
Glad you found the video! This was an amazing show. I managed to shoot a few of the songs, which I gathered here in a playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLwdc0qZNx0tZebgvnH9KZStkKvu_qy5Tk.html
Thank you for filming and uploading all these videos, I just keep playing your playlist in the background on loop, its amazing, such beautiful audio quality and amazing performance. This one especially...I saw some of her New York shows last september and remember the moment I realized she was gonna do the TAAS/Anecdotes loop about halfway through TAAS, when I remembered that I had expected her to play Anecdotes because before this song the stage hands had arranged the harp to help her make the switch...I sat there too shocked to continue crying for a second and still couldn't believe it when it actually happened. Absolutely incredible.
This song is so powerful. I can't even get through it without crying. Im confused why this song isn't one of her bigger hits because to me it's so much deeper and stronger than her other stuff
Personally, i just like it because yes, her harp skills and her unique way or singing, it relax me, but i understand it may not be the like of everyone. If i can recomend something from her it would be the Ys album, specially Monkey and Bear and Emily.

5:13 shook me to my core. an album about time and eternity that returns to the beginning track to repeat infinitely, what a beautiful concept
Check out Nonagon Infinity by King Gizzard! I’m not sure there’s a huge overlap of fans but it’s an awesome record with a similar feature
NOBODY THOUGHT TO TELL THE REST OF THE WORLD THIS WAS HERE?
Share, this shit. JOY!!!!!!!!!! Joy of life.
Hearing "Time, as a Symptom" right before "Anecdotes"... wow. Such a flawless transition. Eternal Recurrence made music. A not-so cruel birth that does not debase.
First time hearing this. Sobbing like a heart broken child.
She's the greatest recording artist. Her lyrics have such poetic texture that I can only compare her to Emily Dickinson and Shakespeare.
She has a matching mic pack with her wristlets and dress 😭
okay but her jumping between the piano and the harp like that is such a fat flex
The Divers album is literally a loop. Blew my mind when I found that out. I will never ever regret seeing her live. If you ever get the chance....
When she sang ‘Time, as a Symptom’, I can’t help but feel how intimate/personal it sounded. Particularly in this performance. It’s so ethereal.
3:13 the verse here really gets me. It's sooo beautiful and heartbreaking
Spontaneously started weeping on the transition between the songs, my heart clenched
me too

@@Rehhhhhhhhhhhhh I wish I can listen to her playing one day❣️
this is the best video on the internet
I was at this performance. Never gonna forget it
she is literally god
Nope. She's a woman favored by God.
I remember I used to listen to the bootleg "Sawdust and Diamonds" over and over. It makes me sad but I guess life is sad.
استغفر الله العظيم
Amen
"Transmit Tran_Sending the first scouts over" a secret we all share with joanna... she's so personal
7:44. You play the piano and then switch to the harp. Her talent is otherworldly. I love her so much.
❤
Joanna, what a precious gift.
This song makes me so emotional.. I can believe she can sing such beautiful words without trembling... beautiful soul!!!
I just clapped out loud when she did that.
My god. She is the absolute best ever.
Joanna!!! You didn’t have to do THAT but I’m so fucking grateful you did!!!
She's playing right in the pocket when she swaps from keys to harp and back again! Luscious!!
still to this day, seeing joanna newsom live in 2016 is the greatest concert i've ever seen. she is truly whimsical
im like a third of these views
you're wrong, joanna. this is life-giving
i cant stop crying omfg
Me too
I was at this performance and was basically for nearly two hours.
this is so beautiful. i'm sobbing at 3 in the morning listening to this
she went from harp to piano like HOLY SHI
Best performance of time as a symptom for me. Praaaaying she comes to London soon :(
Devon C I’ve been waiting for so long for her to play a UK show! I don’t even care where! I will travel!!

she is an angel sent to us
Mad at myself for not discovering this sooner
basically a religious experience
God damn she is absolutely wonderful
Wonderful stuff. Glad to hear she appreciates the Wake as well
Sending the first scouts over
Back from the place beyond the dawn
Horse, bear your broken soldier
Eyes frozen wide at what went on
And time, in our camp, is moving
As you'd anticipate it to
But what is this sample proving?
Anecdotes cannot say what Time may do
I kid with rufous nightjar
When our men are all asleep
It ain't about how rare you are
But how hard you are to see
Take, you and me
When are you from, said he
In our blind of winter leaves
As we sighted out their fliers
In the grayscale of the night
And fumbled on the bare ground
To bury round landmines
While the dew lay down and dried
We signal private poorwill, when morning starts to loom:
Pull up from your dive
Till we hear the telltale Boom
Too soon
Hotdogging loon, caught there
Like a shard of mirror in the moon
Now they've stopped giving orders
But i follow anyway
Laying in our state of torpor
Waiting out the day
While the dew burns away
Rushing, tearing, speeding home
Bound to a wheel that is not my own
Where round every bend I long to see
Temporal infidelity
All along the road, the lights stream by
I want to go where the dew won't dry
I want to go where the light won't bend
Far as the eye may reach, nor end
But inasmuch as that light is loaned
And, insofar as we've borrowed bones
Must every debt now be repaid
In star-spotted, sickle-winged night raids
While we sing to the garden, and we sing to the stars
And we sing in the meantime
Wherever you are?
In the folds and the branches
Somewhere, out there
I was only just born into open air
Now hush, little babe
You don't want to be
Down in the trenches
Remembering with me
Where you will not mark my leaving
And you will not hear my parting song
Nor is there cause for grieving
Nor is there cause for carrying on
And daughter, when you are able
Come down and join, the kettle's on
And your family's round the table
Will you come down, before the sun is gone?
She is amazing ❤
I was feeling fine before this video. Then why am I crying now?
I was at this show, wow! No idea this video was out there. An amazing performance!

Check out her song Easy, studio version. More accessible
@Don Fatale thats true. her music isn’t for everybody bc her sound is so truly unique
Personally, i just like it because yes, her harp skills and her unique way or singing, it relax me, but i understand it may not be the like of everyone. If i can recomend something from her it would be the Ys album, specially Monkey and Bear and Emily.
