First released in 2001. "We'll be together again and again, and each time we'll review". Near the end of his rope, with nobody paying attention, Clark could still take his writing to another level. For me, this completely unlikely album is the one that completes his reputation, puts him up there in American culture with Dylan, Woody Guthrie even.
What a gem for any Gene Clark fan. Thank you for sharing. Gene was very close to being a super star, but a few things--some personal--kept him back. Enough to say The Byrds were never the same after he left the group. RIP, dear singer-songwriter.
Gene Clark was an incomparable singer, songwriter. My heart stops beating because of this stunning voice and incredible lovesong full of feelings. He was and still is for me the one and only. His death was a tragedy. I'll love him for ever. 🌹💕🌹
First time hearing this this guy was more than a songwriter a poet you never expect from a guy who can write such beauty artistry would touch the flesh of your soul.
My pleasure. I was surprised nobody else had posted this one and kept waiting for it to show up on youtube but when it never did I thought I'd add it for others to enjoy :)
With that voice and song writing ability, he should be alive today, playing in clubs and bars. Great music like this is eternal. He had too much too soon, on a par with the Beatles at age 22 and then obscurity. The king of melancholy, his songs can pull the heart strings like 'No Other'
Michelle thank you to share. Great. Came here with a click from a music friend. So nice to not hear it in the cd player but on you tube too. He was underrated but for real music lovers a gift from God.
Ha, I'm the first one to register a Like vote and to leave the first comment on this great song. Gene sounds and looks awesome on this one as always. And thanks for the upload. I really appreciate it when someone uploads a song that is the very first or a rare one, as opposed to adding one more to the 10,000 already there (try finding the original of Don't Think Twice for example :-). Gene lives forever - the melancholy minstrel.
Of the entire Gypsy Angel release, there is just something singularly special for me about this one. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I guess that's the beauty of music, especially Gene's.
For some reason I think of these songs in the setting of driving to and from work when I first listened to them on CD. Very close to the area where Gene grew up just West of Kansas city.
Wow. Talk about Never Before... Where did you find this? Can you tell us the year or any details? I read the book (Tambourine Man) years ago but don't remember this...
A friend shared it with me in 2009. Sadly, he died shortly afterwards so the song is particularly special to me. I don't have more details but he put it on a CD with tracks like Your Fire Burning and Gypsy Rider so they may have been recorded at the same time? I've also tried to find out more about this one but haven't succeeded.
Michelle Johansen You might already know by now, but just in case you don't, and for the benefit of other listeners, here's the information on this song. Gene wrote and recorded "Pledge To You" for the follow up to the 1987 Gene Clark and Carla Olson album "So Rebellious A Lover". It was produced and recorded by Gene at the Otsego Kitchen and mastered at the Bakery Recording Studio in North Hollywood, CA. The song wasn't released until 2001 on a CD titled "Gypsy Angel, The Gene Clark Demos 1983-1980" on the UK label, Evangeline. (GEL 4030) "Pledge To You" is certainly a beautiful piece of music. I'm glad you uploaded it for us.
Anyone know what song has the guitar riff that sounds almost identical to "Wish you were here" by Pink Floyd? I was pretty sure Gene Clarke did it around maybe '71.
from Gypsy Angel: The Gene Clark Demos 1983-1990--released in 2006.

@@sps179 I and fellow Gene fanatics would agree about his stature, but his hard core fans were paying attention and going to his club shows. 'o)

I echo your comment.... There was " No Other".....
@@Ed30675 Thank you so much.

What an incredible song. His unreleased songs are about a billion times better than most singers' released material.
I'm blown away by this. How did it not sell big? It's almost like listening to Elvis. His voice is so compelling.
This is epic, and needs to be brought out and exposed for the rare gem that it is. A deeply personal statement that got me choked up.
Stunning. One of America's greatest artists. He wrote the most honest love songs.

I would hope a little more for him than playing in clubs & bars at this point of his career! -
one of my favourite songwriters\singers, such a shame he never made it to the heights with his his talents, a real poet of a songwriter
I have this album, Gene wrote great songs right until the end. Love this.

What a song, what a voice! Thanks for posting it. Never heard it before. I love Gene.
Greetings from Holland
Soooooo Amazing!

He left his gutts in this song
Thank you Michelle, you made discover another pearl of Gene

Nice and typical a Gene Clarksong. I love it.
Never released? Thanks for posting. Gene, R.I.P.

Michelle Thank you so much for uploading this. I'm a big Gene fan but I've never heard this one. It's beautiful. Do you have any other rare tracks?
Another gem.
Thanks Uwe, I'm glad you enjoyed this beautiful song.
the demo is also wonderful
what vintage is this? Gene was a song writing machine!
Can you imagine how good of a song this would be polished and recorded in a studio with complete instrumentation?
This beauty of demo's are that they put all of the focus on Gene's singing & playing.
Heartbreak Heaven. No-one better at doing it, bar McCartney.
Impressive
Eu tenho uma cópia desse Cd, menina que lindo ouvir esse poeta unico. Amo Gene Clark, ele faz parte da Trilha sonora de minha vida.
only the good die young

Gene foi único! " No Other "

Hi Mark I believe Gene recorded this at his house as a home demo in 1990 (I'm not sure which month but it sounds late 1990 to me).

Michelle Johansen, where did you get this song?
Sorry Fenellablue, it's quality not quantity from me - but I'm pleased you've enjoyed listening to this one.
