Since Feb 2011, choir! choir! choir! has been meeting weekly around Toronto to sing the greatest songs of all time. Last week we finally got to Big Star's Thirteen.

Such a powerful song by an incredible band. The fact that a group of people from all walks of life were able to sing such a beautiful rendition, I'm truly knocked out. That is, was and always will be my go to version after Big Star. Well done and thank you.

This is a fabulous arrangement and version of a favorite song that is loved by so many. Bravo, C!C!C!....
The original version from Alex, Chris, Andy and Jody is always at the top of the mountain...
There are a few other great versions of "Thirteen" you can find pretty easily these days. A version from four or five years later from Choir! Choir! Choir! which features Big Star's Jody Stephens is a good one. Most any performance of this masterpiece done by Elliott Smith is a great listen. Also wonderful were the performances from the touring "Big Star's Third" group of musicians from a few years back. In particular, there's a breakaway performance at a Minneapolis radio studio with Chris Stamey and Brett Harris on guitar/BGVs and honey-sweet lead vocals by Skylar Gudasz. Look for it, you won't regret it!...

The Big Star version is so fabulous I could never imagine anyone else doing it jusitce but they sure did. It is absolutely beautiful.
My boyfriend and i are high school sweethearts since 9th grade. We're planning on getting married after I finish University and this is definitely going to be the song we dance to on our wedding night
