  • FALMOUTH CORNWALL, A historic port town opposite St Mawes and nestled on Cornwall's south coast, boasts a rich maritime heritage, a vibrant arts scene, and stunning natural beauty. Here's why Falmouth should be on your travel itinerary:
Falmouth Harbour, one of the world's largest natural deep-water harbors, is the heart of the town. Stroll along the waterfront, admire the classic yachts and fishing boats, and soak up the bustling atmosphere. Take a boat trip around the harbor for panoramic views or enjoy a seafood feast at a harborside restaurant.
Falmouth's maritime heritage comes alive at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Explore interactive exhibits showcasing Cornwall's seafaring past, from shipwrecks and smuggling to shipbuilding and exploration. Admire the impressive collection of model boats and learn about the town's role in global trade.
Guarding the entrance to Falmouth Harbour, Pendennis Castle is a well-preserved 16th-century artillery fort. Explore the ramparts, dungeons, and gun emplacements, and learn about the castle's role in defending Cornwall from invasion. Enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline and harbor from the castle walls.
Falmouth boasts a thriving arts scene. Explore the numerous galleries showcasing contemporary art by local and international artists. Visit the Falmouth Art Gallery for a diverse collection of visual arts, or catch a performance at the innovative theaters and music venues.
While Falmouth itself offers a wealth of experiences, the surrounding area beckons further exploration:
The Eden Project: Venture a short distance away to discover the Eden Project, a global garden housed in giant biodomes. Explore the diverse flora and fauna from around the world, and learn about the importance of sustainability and environmental conservation.
St Michael's Mount: Explore this iconic tidal island topped by a medieval monastery. During low tide, walk across the causeway to access the island, explore the castle and gardens, and soak up the panoramic views.
The Lizard Peninsula: Embark on a scenic journey to the Lizard Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Discover dramatic coastlines, hidden coves, and diverse wildlife. Explore charming villages and soak up the unspoiled beauty of this unique peninsula.
Cornwall's Mining Heritage: Delve into Cornwall's rich mining history at sites like the Poldark Mine near Helston. Explore the underground tunnels and learn about the harsh realities of life for miners in centuries past.
Explore Picturesque Villages: Cornwall is dotted with charming villages, each with its unique character. Visit St Mawes, a picturesque village on the Roseland Peninsula, known for its idyllic beaches and harbor. Mevagissey, a captivating fishing village, offers a glimpse into Cornwall's traditional way of life.
Falmouth offers the perfect blend of maritime history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural beauty. Whether you're a history buff, an art enthusiast, or simply seeking a relaxing escape, Falmouth has something to offer everyone.

Falmouth reminds me of Hastings Old Town. I lived in Hastings for over 20 years and that's full of creative art 🎨 shops etc. It seems like it needs some TLC and it's sad to see that old cinema 📽️ in such a state. Great video and it looks like a great town to visit. 👍👍👍

I'm from much further up north, but my folks ran the Quayside Inn for many years in the early 90s. Some fond memories :)

Here are some more "fun" facts for you. Falmouth is actually one of the poorest towns in the southwest of the UK. If you look closely you can see the shabbiness of the main town and the fact that many buildings have been allowed to decay. This is in contrast to the eye watering holiday let rental prices for visitors who rent seaside properties. Few of the profits from these filter back into Falmouth because the owners live outside of the county. So Falmouth is a place of great wealth divide and like many seaside resorts in Cornwall it has become impossible for people who live there to afford a mortgage or long term rentals.

Great video as usual,it's a pity you didn't show the commando memorial on the Prince of Wales pier, those boys took part in arguably the most dangerous mission in WW2 and its a befitting tribute to the men who survived and died that night, really expected to see that as you walked all the way up and around the pier, maybe next time

Falmouth is far too gentrified and wrecked by over tourism and students.
