It’s so interesting to hear Charlie talk about the old Busted days now. I remember having so much anger and contempt towards him for years after he left and feeling like he’d disowned the fans (I was 12 at the time and didn’t know anything about anything) and hearing him talk about why he distanced himself, that fear of being misunderstood - as an adult, I completely get it. So much respect for this guy. He really waded through a lot of shit to get to a place where he was happy and that’s admirable.
He was young too. A bit older, but still young. Hehe
it's a beautiful full circle moment to hear Charlie say he took the time he needed away from the band and is able to return on his own terms now, it just goes to show you have to honour yourself always ❤
Charlie Simpson is a music hero. Got so much stick back in the day, when all he was doing was staying true to himself and never got carried away - an absolute roll model 👏🏻
Grand unification was an amazing album 🙌🏻 remember buying it when i was about 14.. im 30 now and still listen to it 🤍
One of the best British rock albums of the Noughties.
Fucking love fightstar
Charlie is one of the best to ever do it. When you look at his vocal/musical playing work across Busted, Fightstar and the solo/indie/folksy work, there's not many that can cover all genres the way he does.
Absolutely, Fightstar especially, unreal in some of their songs.
Dave McPherson of InMe is similar, he never found the success sadly.
@@C.P.O.B InMe are so underrated
Emily though ❤️💔
His voice is just 👌🏻 Bless!
I was a kid when Busted came out and a rock/metal loving teen when Charlie formed Fightstar. I was a religious Kerrang! reader and I remember the moment they started to get recognition and people started to take Charlie seriously as a musician. And then he came out with his softer solo music and that was amazing too. I have so much respect for him sticking to his guns and staying authentic to whatever he felt like creating at the time. Love that he can now look back on his Busted days so fondly and that he genuinely loves the stuff they’re doing now too. Charlie’s a true artist.
dude i love charlie so so so much and getting to hear him talk so freely and so openly felt really special. i feel like he never really has that moment very often and creating that safe space for him to do that is so incredibly lovely to watch. i loved every single minute of this
It’s so true - I was there at the reading performance in 2005 as an undercover fightstar fan and they had EVERYTHING thrown at them. Everyone came just to throw things at them. Bottles of piss, Tesco bags of shit, beers, camping chairs, shoes, used condoms, toilet paper (used and unused) and one guy I was standing next to threw a bottle of paint for Paint your target! They were absolutely hated and for no reason other than Charlie came from Busted. But they were troopers and kept playing knowing that all the haters would soon leave and the fans would be the only ones remaining. And you must remember reading back then was an emo/metal festival not what it is today.
Really? That is so terrible. Big respect to FightStar
A similar thing happened when I saw them at Give It A Name festival in 2005. Booing as they came on, but by the end of the set, people changed their tune, realising they were actually pretty good.
12 year old me didn't understand this & was heartbroken. But I'm so glad later on in life I began to understand, and to LOVE fightstar just as much. And then my dreams come true when busted did their first reunion tour. Now I can appreciate both bands & how much Charlie has grown and stayed true to himself. What a legend. I knew 12 year old me was onto something! 😅❤
I personally think the Busted guys did the right things for the most part. Pursuing their dreams, regardless.
What a great show. Completely get where Charlie is coming from, seems like a great guy. I met him at Great Ormond Street Hospital and he signed one of my ps2 games when I was being treated for cancer, needless to say I was I awe of him. Keep it up chaps, love your work!
Fucking loved this amazing hearing Charlie talk about the split and what helped him look where they are now how amazing they 3 are together all these years still ❤❤
Charlie is a true talent. I love his solo music so much, it is so deep and meaningful. Blameless is his best song and video ever❤️
Blameless was probably one of my least favourites on his last album but its still decent. Sliding Doors however is absolutely majestic
I am a massive fan of Charlie and have followed him throughout his career. This is a great interview and reveals alot about his and processes through Bisted and Fightstar!!
It makes sense now why he opened up to Kerrang and gave them the first interview once he got back in Busted. They got him and he feels heard and understood there.
Jamie doesn't get enough credit for his ability to extract and crystalise stories in a digestible way from his guests. It's a deceptively tricky business that he carries off in an admirably conversational and natural way.
Thanks Mark 💛
Loved Busted. Even now, 3am comes on and my heart leaps at the first chords. X
I’m the same every time Sleeping With The Light On comes on, I always scream when I hear that first guitar scrum!
Fantastic song, didn't like busted but I heard that song and thought, these guys might actually have maturity and might make some decent songs in years to come.
So much respect for him to make that choice as a 19 year old, and what a testament to his parents q
this made my year such an easy listen, always respected Charlie and this just reaffirmed that!
Thanks so much, so pleased you enjoyed it! 💛
Favourite pod ep so far 🙌🏻🙌🏻 such a genuinely nice guy and loved the chemistry between you all
This means so much! Thank you 💛
Best interview I've seen in a long time. Love Busted, love Fightstar, class stuff
It was sooo nice to get to know a little more about Charlie's story. I'm a massive fan from Brazil, stoked for the tour. Thanks guys for that!
This is brilliant. I love how you've touched on choosing happiness ❤ we are proud believer of it, and scares us when seeing people fall into that success = money = miserable trap. Thank you ❤❤
Charlie absolute legend, very talented, and clearly a good human! Proper gentleman!
Soo much respect for Charlie!
He seems so happy & content ❤
I can listen to this man talk all day every day...we love you charlie
Year 3000 will forever be a banger ✊️✨️

I LOVE that Charlie Simpson Loved Silverchair! 🇦🇺🇬🇧
I love the sound of his voice I could listen to him talk and sing allllllll day.
Busted was a vibe back in the day, so grateful for the memories they gave me as a teen.
Absolutely loved this it was so calming to hear the truth xx
such a cool guy one of the reason why play drums bass and guitar I am only 17 and wish fightstar was still going but year 3000 this year come on and still cant get over that my uncle is cousin with him
finished the whole interview. mad respect for Charlie
It's interesting to hear Charlie's perspective throughout including for his reasons for leaving Busted. I hope it has helped him for the better since then now that he's back with James and Matt, better than ever and I look forward too their album and when I get to see them 👍
FightStar is an amazing band. I want a busted fan, it was a bit too pip for me but didn't have any hate for them. I remember hearing FightStar for the first time and thought it was incredible, and I couldn't understand the hate Charlie got at the start. Too many gate keepers back then! He seems like a really sound guy
What a fabulous podcast thank you Charlie Simpson amazing
Thanks so much! Loved our chat with Charlie 💛

💛💛
Charlie is so damn right. Music industry really changed. It's all about content now
Love busted any1 else going to #bustedleeds
Handsome man , very coool😊❤
I don't know anything about Busted other than the fact that I grew up alongside him being very similar ages. When I was younger I was such an elitist - being a guitarist I had to listen to "guitar" music and I basically shit on all pop/Busted like bands. It's amazing how as you get older you finally understand it isn't about genres. It's about music. Sounds so corny but what I'm saying is that music is music. Listening to Charlie talk about this tribal sense I totally get it. I started listening to music properly around 12 and started playing guitar around 13. I didn't fully appreciate the above until probably around 18.
Absolutely love Charlie. Do you know what I mean? 😂
His/one brother is Will. Was at Uni with him. Also a musician
I listen to Magneto by Brigade once a week at least to this day. Banger.
Loving this ❤🎉
fightstar need a come back
It's mad to think Fightstar have been on hiatus for almost the same length of time Busted had been split. Charlie has said Fightstar will be returning soon. I assume after this Busted tour.
I started listening to busted when they did a song for the thunderbirds movie in 2004 when I was 9 years old and I wanted a cd with the song on it which was going to buy a thunder birds movie cd with my dad then buy a busted live album with thunder birds on it then later on I listen to the hole album that i became in to busted.
Charlie is sound 😄
Charlie kinda reminds me of Devin Townsend a little. Devin went through the same with Strapping mentally
love him
His in readablely Handsome
😂❤🎉
Great podcast
Loved this
Thanks so much 💛
Hi I'm Siobhan too ❤x
Uppingham
Wasn’t this a re upload
New episode 💛
I love this en all, but do you know any people who aren't white? It would be lovely to hear some nuance in conversations through life experiences other than that of white folk with a certain established status.
20:10 Amen....the music industry died a good few years or so ago and its an absolute tragedy
Dude you can't admit Shawshank Redemption is your fave film past the age of like 15 😆
His fave movie was the green mile
Poshest podcast ever
But a very good one to be fair
Love this 10/10
Man I loved Fightstar's stuff!! They also did a sensational cover of Breaking The Law! 😙🤌
Also loved him in Busted, so glad I get to see them later this year 😊
