OMG, these two are so damn adorable 😍 I mean, come on! The flirting?! The KISSING?! The *RAIN*?!?! If you're dying to see what happens next (like I definitely was), head on over to Patreon! At the $10 tier you can watch my extended reactions to episodes 1-6, or, for only $1, you can watch the UA-cam cut of next week's episode! Oh, and don't forget to tell me who your favorite character is so far! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Can we take a moment and appreciate the music in this show? I know that’s the episode we’re sup to focus on the kiss (which was spectacular btw) but in every occasion the music is so on point! And it features (I think almost exclusively) LGMBTQ+ artists Edit: okay let’s talk about THE KISS: isn’t it just wonderful and so telling that Nick responds to the first two questions with IDK but when it’s about kissing Charlie is an immediate yes? He knows nothing about what’s going on with his sexuality etc but he never doubts his feelings. That’s one of my favourite things about this show. That the main character who’s discovering himself never tries to erase his emotions and his experience, he just tries to fix the world around them and his perception to match them and not the other way around (if that makes sense)
I read that the director Euros Lyn chose to drag out the scene leading up to the kiss, as to make the audience work for the kiss. They had to work for the payoff. And boy did he do it right. The silence when Nick and Charlie were talking along before the kiss was perfect. No music until they held pinky finger.
@@LeightonReacts He certainly did. Euros is a brilliant director. All the cast adore him and I think if it wasn't for him, the show would have felt very different. Euros worked on Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sherlock, so he certainly knows how to direct. Also he is openly gay, which is perfect for this show, someone directing who knows and feels what it is like to be LGBTQ+.
My take on Tao is that he's really insecure and hates change. His friend group is changing - as they do. First his best friend Elle has to change schools, then Charlie joins rugby and has a crush on a 'straight' boy which he feels will just end in heartbreak. He's just very over protective of Charlie because of the bad bullying the previous year. They don't really get into what happened last year to Charlie - they will in the upcoming seasons. I don't feel Tao has any other feelings for Charlie other than friendship. Nick is by far my favorite character in this season. Just him coming to terms with his sexuality is such a great story, but add Charlie and the rest of the gang - it creates the most beautiful show!
I think you're definitely right about Tao! Change is hard, and it is a lot of change really quickly. And yes, Nick's journey with his sexuality is so great!
Just to clear a few things up if you don't know already (writing this at the beginning of the episode lol): Isaac is actually AroAce and Nick isn't a new kid. Also, if you're a book fan, you should totally check out the books that this show is based off of. They're written by Alice Oseman who actually has a cameo in the last episode on the train. Also, the school that Nick and Charlie attend is an all boys school right by the girls' school. So that's why Elle transferred. The reason Tao's hair is like that is because he grew it out to help Elle with her transition, but due to dress codes on hair length, he curled the bottom so it's technically short enough
The fan theory, that was kinda sorta confirmed (well, not out loud, but they did sort of agree) about Tao's hair, is that Will Gao is way too handsome to pass for unpopular nerd. He's like, model level hot. So they gave him that unfortunate situation. :P I think Tao is really overprotective because the bullying was very bad and because he never sees the side of Nick that Charlie sees, Tao only knows Nick as Harry the bully's friend. Even is Nick isn't truly friends with Harry. So in Tao's eyes, a bully's friend is standing by as bullying happens, and maybe is leading Charlie on so he can hurt him. He does not trust Nick at all. And while we know Nick is not like that, and he can be trusted, Tao doesn't know that. I'm sure there's also the insecurity about his place in his friend group and the fear that his friends are all leaving him. Is Tao going about it the wrong way? Yes, but he's also a 14 year old kid who is trying his best to keep his friends together.
I also expected the kiss to be between Imogen and nick and/or Ben and charlie. And instead we got a kiss between Tara/Darcy and nick/Charlie which was lovely. This show sets up classic trope situations and then let’s things play out in a way that subverts your expectations. I really enjoy your reactions. Looking forward to episode 4 (and yes John Watson is also my favorite. Gotta love the Peeta mellark/Jon Watson/nick Nelson types)
I'm binge watching all the reactions i can find, I've seen some cute, and funny, and thoughtful, and emotional videos, but your reaction is the most relatable for me. like, SAME. this show is pure fanfiction, and i'm LOVING it.
loved this reaction video! btw Isaac (Charlie's other friend that didn't go to movie night) is aroace, its not said in season 1 but Alice confirmed on twitter, and also that's why in ep1 Charlie says none of his friends are gay and ep2 Tao says he's the token straight, and he's the only one not paired up with anyone.
You may know this already but the reason Tao’s hair is like that is because he was growing it out to support Elle and her transition (note she is trans) and he curled it so he can stay in the dress code of hair above the chin
Imogen is such a normal, basic name in the UK - it's slightly old-fashioned, but still common enough that everyone knows it, pretty much the UK version of 'Karen', so it's hilarious seeing so many non-British reactors bewildered over such a bland name 🤣
Tao does have the best intentions at heart, but goes about them the totally wrong way. He has abandonment issues which might be explored more in season two.
This show goes at a slower pace. Nick has a ways to go in his journey to figure out who he is, including what his specific sexuality is. He takes things in relatively baby steps.
Tao is a drama queen to the bone. Among his character traits are insecurity and inability to see what’s right under his nose, but also an impetuosity, a tendency to jump to conclusions. His self-esteem seems very fragile. He is often infuriating, but I like him for his honesty and devotion to his friends, even if it leads him to put his foot in his mouth.
If you're looking for more shows that feature LGBTQ characters, I highly recommend the show Motherland Fort Salem. It's about witches that join the military and one of the main female characters is gay.
Maby Nick is Bi🤔😉? Imogen s blue eyes...amazing...the Birthdayparty is St. Georg Hotel...Harry tells to Nick L- Tara & Darcy G- Charlie B- Nick & Ben T- Elle Q+- Isaac ( in the comic is Aled)
+ 1. 👍 Season 2 will hopefully give Isaac some added exposure. « I want to believe in romance », he says, and that (plus his innate reserve) may mean he is asexual/aromantic to a certain degree. As for Tao, the fact he develops feelings for a trans girl may mean he is open to a certain blurring of sexual categories. He falls for a person: their soul is more important than their genitals.

Before the kiss, you see how confused Nick is but the one thing he does know is he likes Charlie
The noise you made when Nick showed up in the rain was ✨ immaculate ✨
Pure unadulterated joy! Lolol

You're singing after Nick went away from the kiss was perfect.
I'm glad someone likes my singing 😂

It's so fun to be continuously surprised by a show in such a good way! And omg yes, Peeta, my boy! 😍

Drama Queen is a perfect way to describe Tao 😂 But his loyalty is absolutely his best quality. I really respect that about him!
Please react to Young royals 🥺

I'll definitely look into that, thanks!

i'd say Isaac isn't Aled. He's a character that was created just for the Netflix series as well as Imogen.
