Oh my God!! Best edit ever. I am so obsessed with this character. In the films we couldnt really apreciate how cunning and maquiavellic Sauron is. Despite the non-cannonical aprouch... this show has protrated Sauron the Deceiver perfectly.
Say what you want about the show, Sauron's characterization is actually very close to how Tolkien wrote him. His motivations, his weaknesses, his personality, etc. He's always been a compelling character to me in how he's not just some elemental evil but an evil PERSON. He's not so much a Palpatine, bad because the heroes need someone to fight against, but more akin to a demonic figure in Ancient Greek or Norse mythology.
Whoever made this clip, you are truly a master of tides. Bringing these parts together to make a story, one that shows how The creator has given evil a lot of power yet in the end of it all, the light wins. You are so intelligent. The ancients and other civilizations that have been there before us were wiser than us. Thumbs up ❤

CHILLS!!! This was so good! I get so conflicted with the canon of Sauron being the ultimate evil and this performance of him. Like he is probably the most richly developed character on the show
Yeah that was one of my favorite scenes. I love all the little hints of his true nature as what's essentially an arch-demon peeking through the Man/Elf form.
I am obsessed with this character. Never have found him interesting in the movies because he seemed bland and boring to me. But in this series they really made him complex and beautiful. Beautiful in a morbid, satanic way but still... This edit shows his slow descent into darkness so well. People may criticise this series but they made me want to read The Silmarillion.

7:00 The way he answered sounded like he doesn't know who he is anymore. I know he's the bad guy, but this seems to be a great character development for Sauron. No way Galadriel and him have a love interest. Galadriel has been married and in a devoted relationship with Celeborn since the first age. Since before Morgoth was cast into the void.
I mean, this take is precisely the kind of utterly dumb sht that the showrunners and writers clearly love. He doesn't have a goddam love interest, he's pure evil, intent only on power and control. He's not a bloke who's done bad things. He is evil incarnate. Watering him down to a conflicted dude who has to kinda give up a shot at getting with Galadriel (who is portrayed as an utter moron throughout) so utterly misses the point of what Sauron is. Tolkien would have hated every second of this show. And rightly so, it's lowest common denominator garbage.

The show presents him much closer to his intricate, psychologically complex backstory instead of the "pure evil" we get in the Third Age tellings. Maybe you don't understand complex and contradictory characters though, and can't enjoy a story about a fallen angel with conflicting desires and just want a mindless good vs evil heroism tale.

Lord of the Rings is entirely a good vs evil heroism tale, in the mold of the great sagas. And Rings of Power spends half its time trying to borrow from Jackson's excellent cinematic retelling whilst simultaneously dumping all over it by reducing Galadriel and Sauron to "peeps". You can't get away with doing both. And don't get me started on the "romance" between them, no one can defend that nonsense. Do carry on being complex though, whilst enjoying one of the most simple minded reductions of a great tale imaginable. :)

Actually by some time Sauron's intentions was to transform Middle-earth to a paradise like Valinor, or maybe even better. He's desire to bring order to everything was his natural power when he was loyal maia, so Morgoth corrupted it to lust to control everything. Also he wasn't afraid of changes and progress like elves do, Mordor was definitely more progressive and technically improved (so was Numenor before it get drown), also he helped to build mighty kingdoms in south lands (as i remember they won't been like just wildmans riding mammoth like it was in movies). It's something like Northen Kingdoms and the Nilfgaard Empire in the Witcher lore. Nilfgaardians mostly represented as evil, but they also brought some progress to their provinces.

There's definitely holes in the TROP as a series, for example, why didn't Sauron mind control Adar and his orcs before he was stabbed? He clearly has no problem using that power or no degree of empathy - I do feel they potray him correctly in terms of his personality though, he's a pure evil narcissist, unable to see any flaw in himself. I've known people IRL like this, and IMO, it makes Annatar far scarier than movie Sauron. ☠️
