    * SOS mode to signal for help.
    * Pulse location mode which is a bright burst of light every 2 seconds so rescue worker could find you.
    * With the flashlight off you can press the button down for 1 second and two red LEDs will come on at 16 lumens.
    * If you press down ½ of the switch travel with the red LEDs on then the red LEDs will flash off and on.
    It has a drop resistance of 1.5 meters or 4.92 feet. It is also waterproof and submersible to IPX-67 which means to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. It is also dust resistant. Just make sure that you properly reinsert the battery cap and snap it in properly. I show that in my video. My only minor complaint is that snapping the cover on is a little tough and you really have to make sure that you have inserted the batteries perfectly before the cover will close properly.

    Thanks, you just saved me 30 bucks! I have the HC90 from Nitecore, and I really love it. I will stick to 18650's. For a lightweight edc headlamp I recommend the Petzl triple A lights. I have had a Tikka+ for about 8 years, it's not super bright (160 lumens), but it just works and it weighs next to nothing.

    Sorry Nitecore, I trust Luke's review and I don't want that light. Thanks Luke for your honest opinion. Not all products are for everyone, but nobody wants a light where the button falls off and the battery compartment fails.

    Some decent parts especially the red lights. Hopefully they will listen to your suggestions. Thanks Luke.

    Great review. I like Coleman headlamps but, saying that, i've never tried one of the really expensive ones like Black diamond or Petzl.

    I have the hc50 and love it, for a headlamp and a flashlight, that one looks a bit too bulky.

    Hey Luke im looking for a good Hiking, hi power headlamp maybe 200-300 lumens, also a good long lasting flashlight maybe mid range cost for both(I want to find something that uses the same batteries). what would you recommend? I have a Fenix E12 are you a fan of Fenix??

    My old camera took 4 x AA batteries. My latest camera takes one slim, flat battery which is much lighter and lasts longer. Why can't these headlights use the slim, flat batteries? They are not all that expensive considering they are rechargeable.

    Agreed, not really feeling that one. I have a lot of other nitecore lights and they are all great. Thanks for the great review.

      You make a good point brother, normally Nitecore really delivers with their products. This one falls short big time. - Luke

    I wear all of my headlights over a type baseball cap... I imagine that is why there is no padding?

    Might I suggest the Boruit Headlamp Headlight 5000, 5000 Lm on amazon, I can't picture owning any other brand, solid, tough, & bright. A bit heavy & you will need to upgrade to the 18650 batteries. And for those, might I suggest the Caloics 3000 mAH rechargeable. Just another option to consider, thanks guys, Gary

    I bought one that takes 18650 rechargeable batteries and is padded where it rests against the forehead.

    Looks like it would leave a big square mark on your forehead with the large plastic mount. They need to take this one back to the drawing board. I am not sure why they felt the need for this head lamp. The HC50 is a much better light than this all around. They failed with this one in my opinion. Great review Luke.

    Why some people say "we" when they are more than obvious alone with the camera?

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue 8 років тому +4

      In Luke's case, it's because he likes to involve the viewers.

      Companies love paying for negative reviews on their products.
      Thank you Luke for keeping it honest for us.

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  8 років тому +1

      You are welcome Donald and I wouldn't have it any other way and that is why I don't receive commission on any sales, I don't have a store, I don't get paid to review products, etc. If the product is good, I will say so. If the product isn't, I will say so. Just like with this headlamp, it's not a good product in my opinion so I said so.

      I see your strategy here... Keep giving honest reviews until companies learn to only send you high-quality products. At which point, you have companies sending you high quality products, so that's a win. Brilliant!
