The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an enchanting yearly variety show that ran for half a century. Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.

" hurry up and wait" is a joke by Tom as he is being messed around with the backing track which starts too quickly ( he seems to be singing live to a pre recorded, very poor, backing track). The song is called " without love".
Even with that shitty karaoke backing, he still gives a 110%. Amazing performer, a true legend in every sense of the word.
