  • Higher education has been called the most important door that will ever open. We know that walking through that door can change the life of a student, their family, and their communities. But tuition and the many other costs of college have increased markedly, while financial aid has not kept pace. Unmet financial need closes the door to potential students - especially Black, Latinx and/or Hispanic, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI), and Indigenous students, as well as students from low-income backgrounds who have been historically excluded from higher education.
Targeted, need-based financial aid from the federal government, states, and institutions not only makes college affordable - it makes college possible. Need-based aid is proven to disrupt inequities in college access, persistence, and completion.
In this video, hear IHEP alum Katelyn DiBenedetto share why need-based aid, one of IHEP’s four pillars, is critical to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential through higher education.
Our shared future is the why. Higher education is the how. View our research and advocacy efforts at ihep.org and join the conversation on Twitter #HigherEdIsHow, and contribute to our mission at www.ihep.org/support-our-mission/
