So Joe Black during Lockdown had to sell her Drag in order to Survive. She didn't expect to come back to Drag Race to compete. She didn't have a lot of money and had to make due. Yes she could've made her off the rack dress more special however glitter and rhinestones cost money and there is no cash prize on Drag Race UK. This particular Maxi challenge also wasn't a fashion challenge. THIS is what RuPaul doesn't understand.

Thing is Tia's outfits kept being read all the time and, for that same reason, she was in the bottom three times. So there's that. BUT Joe's critique was harsher because they've admitted the dress was from a retail store, and was the comeback queen - and they are pushed double to prove why their return was deserving. And the main reason they keep reading them, no matter what happens in between lockdown and returning, is because they can easily respond " You have plenty of fabrics and glitter in the werkroom to elevate your outfits, or to sew/gun glue a new one". There will always be a BUT for everything on TV, even in the middle of a global crisis, and specially when talking about public TV
There was no expectation for anyone to be a millionaire. All the contestants are provided with fabrics and materials to make looks from. There have been several queens who were crafty and cheap and won their season. It's crazy that people want to make excuses for Joe Black instead of realizing there were many other British Queens that didn't get on the show and would have killed for that opportunity, and sewing is really not that hard.

The queens do get paid. And these were outfits the queens brought from home. Joe went home first and had a kids of time to do something to the dress, especially since the show shutdown for 6-7 months. Which is also why Ru was extremely pissed.

people also seem to forget that contestants can make garments from fabric *PROVIDED BY THE SHOW.* Queens don't need to spend tons of money, they just need to be able to *_look_* glamorous and expensive, and if they can accomplish that on a dime, it's a plus, not a minus. There's no money directly involved in winning Drag Race UK so they're doing it more for the publicity than the money. That having been said, it you're going to wear an H&M dress, you should probably do something with it to make it look more stage worthy. She basically just slapped it on and called it a day.

What infuriates me most is that it was a look Joe would wear for a few minutes in a performance (keep in mind we’ve had MANY queens wear basic off the rack clothes to perform in and Ru never complains) but all the sudden this is the limit for her. H&M actually had a chocolate-colored unisex deep-v top that I bought years ago, and I still rock it today, it's incredibly sexy in an earthy way, they have some great designs actually, people should give them more credits that they really really deserve. Dude, it’s a huge financial burden to go on RuPaul, Plus the UK version doesn’t even have price money. She literally had great costumes HOWEVER Joe was voted out on episode 1, then the show was cancelled for 6-8 months UK was going through Covid and an extremely difficult financial time & people were not allowed to work - Joe Black went bankrupt, he has children to look after sooo Joe had to sell all of his costumes in order to live and so obviously when he was invited to go back to the show Joe couldn’t just magically show up with a full decent wardrobe as that takes time & money that he simply did not have.. He tried to buy as many original costumes back but obviously had to bulk out with lower investment pieces such as this dress - which the looks was actually pretty creative & worked well anyway - despite not being up to the standard of the Queens now that are forced to spend over 20k-40k on costumes in order to stand a chance but likely just be spent home as only 1 wins & only a handful find moderately consistent work.

This really pissed me off. The first week, when Joe Black was first unfairly eliminated for two amazing and unique looks, Ru gave the win to someone wearing an off the rack ASOS jacket.

There's no money directly involved in winning Drag Race UK so they're doing it more for the publicity than the money. That having been said, it you're going to wear an H&M dress, you should probably do something with it to make it look more stage worthy. She basically just slapped it on and called it a day.

H&M actually had a chocolate-colored unisex deep-v top that I bought years ago, and I still rock it today, it's incredibly sexy in an earthy way, they have some great designs actually, people should give them more credits that they really really deserve. Not that this was a fair elimination, I believe both Joe's looks on the first episode were perfect. The fact Michelle did not liked them is not his fault, she was arguing that the building is not golden inside, if you recall. Then he was brought back after the COVID pandemic, and in UK in his area there were no opportunities to do shows. Unlike Ru Joe went completely bankrupt. And you tell me he is to blame? Creativity takes time and money. You can't just make a dress in an afternoon, you silly peeps in comments. Just, go learn sewing. It's not so easy as you think. We all know that Ru fracks. She literally had great costumes HOWEVER Joe was voted out on episode 1, then the show was cancelled for 6-8 months UK was going through Covid and an extremely difficult financial time & people were not allowed to work - Joe Black went bankrupt, he has children to look after sooo Joe had to sell all of his costumes in order to live and so obviously when he was invited to go back to the show Joe couldn’t just magically show up with a full decent wardrobe as that takes time & money that he simply did not have..
He tried to buy as many original costumes back but obviously had to bulk out with lower investment pieces such as this dress - which the looks was actually pretty creative & worked well anyway - despite not being up to the standard of the Queens now that are forced to spend over 20k-40k on costumes in order to stand a chance but likely just be spent home as only 1 wins & only a handful find moderately consistent work.
Invite Joe to all stars then where the queens get a cash siphon.
