It really sucks when DxO, who is known for their very good denoising tool, still in 2024 can't deliver an automatic masking tool with an instantly visible edge detection. Further this edge detection seems to be too primitive to even detect and exclude the space between a person's legs (get it wrong 2 out of 3 times at 4:56, the right and left person). To me Photolab is a strange conglomerate from Frankenstein's lab (oh, but you can buy extra tools, should you miss one or two).
Yes I was surprised as well when I first used DXO back in Photolab 5. In the forums people would ask DXO and they would say it was a know issue that they are working on. I suspect the automatic masking tool is a tougher problem that we think and thats why only a few editors do it really well.
@@takebetterphotos8132 Yeah--IMO DxO has the best RAW processing interface but they're not always responsive. I've made several requests for new lens modules (still waiting for the Laowa 6mm f/2 and Mitakon 25mm f/0.95--I think it's been over three years on the latter--maybe it's because they're manual focus?). At least they finally have the Lumix G9 II so I can get that now (I'll have to check if they support all my lenses for that body besides those two)... They did get back to me regarding some issues I had with artifacts in Nik Silver Efex Pro and eventually fixed that problem, so it could be worse (but it could be better)!
Yes I have dealt with DXO regarding some processing bug where the edited image didn't look like it was exported. They were slow to respond for sure! Took many many weeks. I guess they are a smaller company and don't have the resources for support and updating every lens.
The minor feature upgrade from 6 to 7 and the extremely handicap masking tools, plus the way some features are packaged and marketed is what lead me to skip this upgrade. Un believable
When using the masking tools how do you get your hand tool back when your done with masking? I can't find it anywhere and I need to go back to my Library and back to edit again for it to show.
As long as you are zoomed into the image try holding the space bar while dragging with your left mouse button. It doesn't appear if you are zoomed out.
Hello if you are using a mac in local adjustment panel just click the close button. That will get rid of the hand. Or try pressing the M key. Hope that helps!

Thanks--I was unaware of some of those tips and limitations. I do hope DxO fixes those (without charging us more)!
