No it just lets those idiots that shouldn’t be driving, get on the road recklessly to kill the ones of us that do know how to drive.
I've rode a motorcycle everyday since 1976. I got my first bike at four years old. Since I was a teenager I regularly have practiced panic braking and doing sweet stoppies 😁 For myself I found ABS to be dangerous. I want to know exactly what the front wheel is doing 100% of the time. When splitting cars in CA and braking I had a ZX6R with abs that would skip forward ( not brake for a split sec) if I went over a center reflector. It was my first bike with abs. After almost crashing twice because of it I completely removed it. I've owned 34 motorcycles. If I buy a new bike that has abs I completely remove it. I personally hate ABS. I think the key is to start off riding in the dirt and then always practice panic braking and slow speed maneuvering skills. However, I know that some people just ride for transportation and don't want to put in the effort to master their skills, so abs is probably good for them.
@@positivelycurvedpikachuYou should almost always use engine braking. The best way to learn how to effectively use it is on a dirt bike. I use engine braking with clutch feathering all the time in the rain. I've even ridden a sport bike on packed snow and used engine braking as my main brake.
ABS uses speed sensors on both wheels to accurately determine wheel speed as well as sensors to determine when a wheel is about to lock. ABS adjusts the braking pressure accordingly to prevent the wheel from locking and assists with maintaining the stability of the motorcycle.
That’s not what ABS does.. 🤦♂️ you just described Stability and traction control. Which modulates the power to every wheel. ABS simply unlocks your brakes repeatedly while you’re locked up. Doesn’t use wheel speed sensors, doesn’t modulate power, doesn’t modulate braking. It unlocks repeatedly. And in effect increases your braking distance. Hence why ABS is a hazard and why we don’t use it in racing.
@@joshroi8610ABS is not a hazard. It prevents the wheels from locking and thus allow you to stay on the bike/ not slide. In a scenario where you know your bike perfectly and can modulate the brakes on the edge of locking up then great! Otherwise, abs saves live

Proper cadence braking with ABS will put the stopping distance between slamming ABS and proper non ABS cadence braking. It's a good trade off for having a failsafe incase you mess up pumping your brakes without ABS.
The amount of comments bashing on ABS is mind boggling. ABS (for the average rider) will undoubtedly save the bike from going down at some point. ABS is a safety tool.
ABS is awesome - but most of the comments are not bashing ABS but bashing a rider who grabs waaay too much brake and then does absolutely nothing to correct the situation.
It's clearly superior if you grab a full fist of brakes but if used properly non abs would preform the same. But in panic situations abs definitely wins
In an anti-lock braking system, your vehicle’s wheel speed is monitored and if wheel lock is detected, a sensor sends a message to a controller that releases and applies the brake up to 20 times per second, preventing a lock up and helping you maintain control of your vehicle. Anti Lock Braking System also works in conjunction with limited slip differential ratio systems to effect traction control or Posi-Traction (on three and or four wheelers).
@@marianandnorbert yes i believe so, i guess it makes the abs system think there is a malfunction. It goes back off once you ride it around normal for a little while
Also, on a bike, you should never use enough front brake to lock it up like that, ABS or not, rear brake is intended to do the majority of the braking.
well he did it on purpose to imply the effect, but what i saw is as early as he applied the brakes he also tilt the wheels and twist to the right, i've encountered times i did brake so hard on front but just skid straight thru along the way, its a matter of balance and alignment of the front wheel, once it tilts or turn even just a bit thats the time it starts to skid sideways
I just think we knew how to ride better back then. Braking in the wet was a matter of common sense approach to riding and getting a feel for what the bike's brakes were like for 'feel'.

Yeah, i can see a use for antilick brakes. I have been riding now for over 50 years and in most cases if you are aware of the road conditions even in a panic situation you are going to be okay. In the few situations wgere you need antilick brakes, you were not paying attention
I was turning onto a side street in the rain at night while braking. I hit a manhole cover I couldn't see. The front brake locked and slid for a millisecond, then the ABS kicked in. I didn't go down. No question I would have gone down without it!!!!
This is clearly an exaggeration. Any sensible person would realise when the wheel is skidding and release the brakes. ABS is a good aid for novice riders
Well, this was a demo and not a fair comparison. I've ridden many miles in rain and snow on non-ABS bikes and never have I carshed like this, grabbing too hard on the front brake. In theory a non ABS brake is as or more efficient than a ABS brake, it's just hard to be that precise on the handle.
In any emergency it helps both experienced and non experienced riders in adverse conditions. ABS breaking will always be better than a human and gives better breaking distance and control. There's literally no downside other than it probably cost a little more for the system.
I don't recommend anyone trying to outmatch a ABS breaking system. However there is a reason why MotoGP bikes does not have ABS. Full control of the brake makes for more efficient braking under specific circumstances. The ABS releases braking power however slightly in fractions of seconds, which results in not optimal braking. It makes slipping less of a problem wich is good for road traffic, sure. As I said in my original comment, the video is not a fair comparison only exhibiting bad braking techniqe.
1. When you are riding with sand/water/ice on the road ride slowly. 2. Always use both brakes simultaneously during emergency and dont hold clutch so that engine braking helps you slow down. If you follow these then you dont need abs.
Motorbike riders, famously, love riding slow and safe. And emergency braking situations are (famously) great moments to think logically, and apply critical thinking.
Yep... Saves a lot of time and peace of mind knowing even if u panick u wont skid. But yeah experienced drivers would say this is redundant for them. Redundancy is good for safety tho.
And even more experienced drivers will say that you can't predict the future and emergency braking is often required when you're dealing with more than just the perfect application of brakes.

If you can squeeze-release brake cycle 10 time per second with an exact amount of pressure, then you can handle normal brake just like ABS. Specially in emergency case.
Only spiderman can act like that.
I have been riding bikes since 1977 in all types of weather and have never felt the need for abs... but I also pay attention and know how to use my brakes!
Yeah ABS kills more people than it saves annually. They shouldn’t be on the road if they need training wheels to do so. Hence why we don’t use ABS in professional racing, it would cause so many accidents per race it’s not even funny 🤦♂️😂 but they kids think it’s a “life saver”. No it just lets those idiots that shouldn’t be driving, get on the road recklessly to kill the ones of us that do know how to drive.
Hi! do you use engine braking?
@@ZachTheMaker Thank you
That’s honestly incredible at the difference it makes
Good demonstration of a completely new rider panic braking. Anyone that has any experience wouldn't hammer the front brake on a wet surface like that.
I had a bike for a couple months and in wet conditions I'd just use engine breaking and the rear brake. Worked well enough

@@RobManser77 true it did take a bit to stop, but my bike didn't have ABS. And if I ride again, I don't want ABS

It’s truly a comforting feeling seeing it in action. 2 wheels down Gentleman 🫡
ABS uses speed sensors on both wheels to accurately determine wheel speed as well as sensors to determine when a wheel is about to lock. ABS adjusts the braking pressure accordingly to prevent the wheel from locking and assists with maintaining the stability of the motorcycle.
imagine copy pasting that lmao

Never knew what abs was or how it worked . Thanks for the info !
The amount of comments bashing on ABS is mind boggling. ABS (for the average rider) will undoubtedly save the bike from going down at some point. ABS is a safety tool.
But everyone thinks they're amazing and don't need it....
ABS is awesome - but most of the comments are not bashing ABS but bashing a rider who grabs waaay too much brake and then does absolutely nothing to correct the situation.
No one is bashing ABS. They're bashing the rider for purposely making it worse than it should be
Fantastic tool on the road, annoying on track
I don't see anyone bashing ABS
Best way of demonstrating ABS
Thank u sir❤️
Also best way of destroying non abs
Best way would be someone that know how to brake, and not someone that ram the brakes as hard as they can
It's clearly superior if you grab a full fist of brakes but if used properly non abs would preform the same. But in panic situations abs definitely wins
@@wanderer7779 Nah abs works far better than any human can perform. Only exception is on dirt where you'd want the wheels to lock to slow down faster.
Todays ABS systems on bikes not only detect wheel speed but lean angle also and apply necessary force to the brakes according to lean angle.
If you ride a wheelie long enough on a bike with abs, the abs light will come on.
why? because the front wheel stops spinning but the rear wheel is still spinning?
@@marianandnorbert yes i believe so, i guess it makes the abs system think there is a malfunction. It goes back off once you ride it around normal for a little while

This is clearly an exaggeration. Any sensible person would realise when the wheel is skidding and release the brakes. ABS is a good aid for novice riders
He trusted ABS for his life😂😂😂
Well, this was a demo and not a fair comparison.
You will never match a modern ABS system. It's not possible for humans to perform like computers.
The 2 side wheels saved me a lot
That crash dummy is so realistic looking
Ahhh the old days. You had to have good pedal control and a feel for the road. Or everyday for me. My cars 21 years old and no ABS.

ABS is a super invention
For guys with big vagainas yea
Everyone: “There’s only two types of riders; ones that have laid it down, and ones that will eventually”
This guy: “Hold my training wheels”
Another difference is that ABS is *_required_* on 4-wheeled vehicles, but mysteriously *_not_* required on 3- or 2-wheeled vehicles.
I rode way before abs and never needed it. Rode in the rain all the time. It's called skill.
Exactly
Great video! More of this please

Me and you could get in the same car, I’ll turn off ABS, and traction and stability control and you keep it all on. I’ll stop ATLEAST 10-40% before you do. You’ll slide 10-40% further than I will. If you’re actually trying to stop to prevent yourself from hitting something or someone guess what? You won’t. I will. It’s training wheels for cars and you shouldn’t have a license if you can’t drive without training wheels. I understand the use of ABS in driving school to teach NEW drivers. That’s plz to get them used to modulating the gas and brake pedals. But it SHOULD NOT be in effect on any vehicle outside of new driver school. And for reference kiddo, the SAFEST VEHICLES EVER BUILT, DO NOT HAVE ABS. AKA race cars for ANY motorsport. They do not have ABS, and if they did, with the high intensity driving situations, they would cause hundreds upon hundreds of fatalities amongst the best drivers in the world annually. I myself have been in hundreds of situations where I WOULD BE DEAD if ABS was turned on. Both on the track and the road. And I stunt rode motorcycles for 5 years with the best in the world, the street fighters and all, before I got into pro am drifting and moved up to grip racing to eventually get into WRC. Mind you, WRC is the most unconventional track surface racing. It goes from dirt to mud to pavement to gravel to sand to silt to concrete to any type of ground that exists. Rain, sleet, snow hail, all weather conditions. The hardest racing in the world and the highest testament to control of a vehicle. Both ABS and traction and stability control are both ALWAYS off in these types of racing as the only thing that’s keeping you alive is that you’re way faster than those handicaps and can handle and react way faster than they ever could. So go ahead and try to keep arguing about what you have no clue about child. I’ll continue to embarrass you on how physics actually work. Because I can break it down way more in detail exactly how traction and stability control and ABS both cause accidents and millions of accidents every year on the roadways.
