    • @joshroi8610
      @joshroi8610 Рік тому +15

      Actually it’s cost hundreds of millions of lives. Without ABS people would be required to LEARN HOW TO DRIVE. But instead they invented this training wheels method that allows people to drive WHO HAVE NO BUSINESS DRIVING. And annually it causes more accidents than you can even count to kiddo. It increases the braking distance and causing you to lose control. And it often sticks. Hence why we DO NOT USE ABS in ANY professional driving. It WILL cause accidents, and does on the roads everyday.

    • @47f0
      @47f0 Рік тому +31

      @@joshroi8610- The origin of that mythology about increasing stopping distances is hard to track down - aside from the sheer ego of riders who aren't nearly as good as they think they are. Gen 1 ABS was pretty mediocre, but so was the Apple II (hint, electronics have improved)
      When Scott Mansell, who has done a bit of braking in his racing career, tried to beat ABS stopping distance, he found not only did the ABS beat him, but his stopping distances in successive test runs varied more than ABS.
      The overwhelming majority of two-wheel and four-wheel drivers will never go through any extensive course for performance driving, let alone the constant refreshers it takes to keep that muscle memory active.
      The graveyards are full of genius high performance bike riders who were almost as good as they thought they were. Almost.

      @@ravenheart369 Not possible what? To stop a bike in the rain without crashing? Of course it is. A skilled rider who isn't panic grabbing a handful of lever, and modulating effectively can stop quickly and safely. In the early days of ABS, a skilled human could stop shorter much of the time. But ABS is 100% as good, 100% of the time, regardless of skill - so it's a no brainer.

    • @ravenheart369
      @ravenheart369 Рік тому +34

      @@bradley3549 It's not possible because in emergency situations you can't calculate all the information in a fraction of second.
      Moreover, although the muscle memory is the only that dictates the pulling force to the lever, in emergency situations your muscle force will be affected by something called adrenaline and therefore, you can't apply the exact force leading to threshold braking. You will lock initially and that fraction of second is more than enough for the front wheel to lose the grip and then...disaster

    • @bradley3549
      @bradley3549 Рік тому +41

      @@ravenheart369 I'm not suggesting that ABS doesn't have its place, or that it isn't superior when properly implemented. But a great many skilled and experienced rider has the ability to safely and quickly brake in adverse conditions without just grabbing a handful of brake and ending up on their side. That's a fact. You don't have to do math problems in your head to do it, it's a matter of feel. Not every rider can do it, and no rider can do it perfectly 100% of the time. But to suggest it's completely impossible is just not fair or accurate. Legions of experienced riders out there can attest to that.
      But the point of the comment here is that it would be interesting to see this scenario added to this comparison regardless of how likely it is to happen in the real world.

      I've rode a motorcycle everyday since 1976. I got my first bike at four years old. Since I was a teenager I regularly have practiced panic braking and doing sweet stoppies 😁 For myself I found ABS to be dangerous. I want to know exactly what the front wheel is doing 100% of the time. When splitting cars in CA and braking I had a ZX6R with abs that would skip forward ( not brake for a split sec) if I went over a center reflector. It was my first bike with abs. After almost crashing twice because of it I completely removed it. I've owned 34 motorcycles. If I buy a new bike that has abs I completely remove it. I personally hate ABS. I think the key is to start off riding in the dirt and then always practice panic braking and slow speed maneuvering skills. However, I know that some people just ride for transportation and don't want to put in the effort to master their skills, so abs is probably good for them.

    In an anti-lock braking system, your vehicle’s wheel speed is monitored and if wheel lock is detected, a sensor sends a message to a controller that releases and applies the brake up to 20 times per second, preventing a lock up and helping you maintain control of your vehicle. Anti Lock Braking System also works in conjunction with limited slip differential ratio systems to effect traction control or Posi-Traction (on three and or four wheelers).

      I don't recommend anyone trying to outmatch a ABS breaking system. However there is a reason why MotoGP bikes does not have ABS. Full control of the brake makes for more efficient braking under specific circumstances. The ABS releases braking power however slightly in fractions of seconds, which results in not optimal braking. It makes slipping less of a problem wich is good for road traffic, sure. As I said in my original comment, the video is not a fair comparison only exhibiting bad braking techniqe.

It’s nothing to do with me. “It works fine for me” because your oblivious. You don’t know how brakes are supposed to function. Me and you could get in the same car, I’ll turn off ABS, and traction and stability control and you keep it all on. I’ll stop ATLEAST 10-40% before you do. You’ll slide 10-40% further than I will. If you’re actually trying to stop to prevent yourself from hitting something or someone guess what? You won’t. I will. It’s training wheels for cars and you shouldn’t have a license if you can’t drive without training wheels. I understand the use of ABS in driving school to teach NEW drivers. That’s plz to get them used to modulating the gas and brake pedals. But it SHOULD NOT be in effect on any vehicle outside of new driver school. And for reference kiddo, the SAFEST VEHICLES EVER BUILT, DO NOT HAVE ABS. AKA race cars for ANY motorsport. They do not have ABS, and if they did, with the high intensity driving situations, they would cause hundreds upon hundreds of fatalities amongst the best drivers in the world annually. I myself have been in hundreds of situations where I WOULD BE DEAD if ABS was turned on. Both on the track and the road. And I stunt rode motorcycles for 5 years with the best in the world, the street fighters and all, before I got into pro am drifting and moved up to grip racing to eventually get into WRC. Mind you, WRC is the most unconventional track surface racing. It goes from dirt to mud to pavement to gravel to sand to silt to concrete to any type of ground that exists. Rain, sleet, snow hail, all weather conditions. The hardest racing in the world and the highest testament to control of a vehicle. Both ABS and traction and stability control are both ALWAYS off in these types of racing as the only thing that’s keeping you alive is that you’re way faster than those handicaps and can handle and react way faster than they ever could. So go ahead and try to keep arguing about what you have no clue about child. I’ll continue to embarrass you on how physics actually work. Because I can break it down way more in detail exactly how traction and stability control and ABS both cause accidents and millions of accidents every year on the roadways. You’ll NEVER find these handicaps on any race car ever made, as they are ONLY built with the highest level of technology, safety and driving skill in mind. I remember when ABS on bikes started to become the norm. All my riding friends were like "Bruh, I can outbrake ABS, yo!" This is what ABS is made for, emergency, oh ____! type moments, not trying to casually stop faster on a sunny day.

    I have pounded the idea of progressive break pressure into my head, but i worry if all my practice will actually kick in in an emergency or if I’ll just grab a fist full of break and hit the pavement.

    "During the demonstration, he deliberately locks up the front brakes while simultaneously turning the handlebars, illustrating the limited effectiveness of braking without ABS. However, experienced riders know that locking up the front brakes is rare in any condition, whether wet or dry. While this serves as a powerful demonstration of ABS, it also somewhat exaggerates the scenario."

    Every rider should learn how to ride on a bike with no abs. Teaches you how to not smash the brake and eject-o-seat-o you off the the bike. Teaches you how to modulate the brake so you don’t endo into hell.

      I grew up racing bikes and can tell you that abs is a killer to someone that doesnt need it. Kinda like traction control in a high hp car can cause more problems for a good driver. Ive had times where the abs watered down my brake feel when trying to go hard into a corner. I want to be the one that controls that limit not the bike.

      I was going like 35vwhen a car pulled out from a stop into the street and sees me and stopped dead in front of me. Totally his fault but i jammed on my brakes and my rear wheel came up and i rode a damn front wheelie for about 20 to 30 ft before I stopped. It was scary but growing up riding bicycles and practicing that exact move saved my ass cuz i could keep it just right instead of just flipping over the handlebars 😆😆

    Very accurate for anyone who has no business on a bike. If you can't feel out your brakes to the point you NEED abs, just don't ride.

      How quick do you think you can react that you just "feel" your brakes while nearly being run off the road or a kid runs out in front of you... Get real, you have less than a second to react and you think you can just "feel" your brakes...

      @ConsolGameR I always used the "2 finger" rule. NEVER use more than 2 finger on a Hydraulic disk front brake and never use the far end of the lever . Most people I grew up around cut off 40%of the lever to prevent them from grabbing it at the tip
