MAAAAAN, I hate to say it, but skipping over the GBA version like that is a HUGE disservice! Despite the smaller screen, it actually plays extremely well. You're the first person I've ever heard say it doesn't play well. I'm kinda surprised.
@@slopesgameroom if havent done this yet you still need to... it is a gem. so many memories all amazing. as above , the only person to this day ive ever seen look down on it.
I was just about to comment about this. To me it’s the best version of double dragon. New moves, mechanics (blocking , etc) and new weapons and enemies. Really challenging AI as well.
I think this GBA was one of the best. Game Play and graphics...music. I definitely liked it more than Neon. Especially if you played it on PC with the emulators linked and played 2 player with one window full screen.
Phenomenal video. A work of Art. One of my fondest childhood memories is walking into the local arcade and "witnessing" Double Dragon for the first time.
What about Double Dragon Advance? I think that is a worthy mention. Great controls and nice arrangements of the classics. It also pays homage to some of the best aspects of the series including some classic enemies like the final boss from Double Dragon 2. Graphics are surprisingly good for such a small screen, too.
the moment I saw double Dragon in the title I stopped everything and had to watch!! but I gotta disagree with one thing: Double Dragon Advance is phenomenal! I rank it up there with Neon and Part One. Let's hope the franchise can continue soon enough!
My personal favourite in the series is Double Dragon Advance, I think it's the best mechanically the series has every been, without going too goofy like with Neon (though I do love that game also.) I'd love to see a new game in the series buy Reverge Labs, the guys behind Skullgirls, their gorgeous 2D art married with classic brawling gameplay would be bliss.
Know it was only a passing mention, but THANK YOU for mentioning the Bouncer! My friends and I played that game to DEATH back in the day. Had a multitap only to get the full four player experience out of that. It was great!
Oh man, what a great video. The original DD is probably my fondest memory of gaming as a kid. I was hoping to hear more about the GBA version, though. :( That one is my favorite game on the system, far and away.
I agree! Double Dragon 3 the Sacred Stone was the best version of the third installment. Super Double Dragon was really fun. Double Dragon 4 (playstation 4 / nintendo switch) is also really fun because it has the same design as DD2
Did you seriously just say the brilliant GBA remake has 'not so good gameplay'? It's a masterful expansion of the original gameplay, the squishy resolution doesn't hamper it at all. Did you not give it a proper go? I can agree that other than the unfair difficulty DD3 gets way too much flack, it's a good game overall, even if Bimmy and Jimmy stand like they're busting to go to the john, but DD Neon... I can't agree there. To me it looks and feels just awful, with ugly graphics, stiff, robotic animations, suspect collision detection and all the attempted 80's styling feeling forced and cringy.
I disagree. The small screen and washed out colours feel claustrophobic, and that stupid feature of having the enemy move back a few pixels every time they are punched is super annoying, becasue they always end up out of reach. A lot of good features in the game mind you, but it would have been better served on a proper console with a proper screen.
This brings back so many happy memories for me! I remember my brother owning Double Dragon on the Gameboy. I had come so close to completing it and one Saturday Morning I asked to play on it. He agreed and I managed to get to the last stage, avoid those doors that suck you in and with beads of sweat pouring down my face I was somehow able to kill the shadow boss! I ran upstairs to show my brother and he couldn't have been happier! We even owned the master system version and I did play the second one again on Gameboy but could never complete it! An awesome video and I have subscribed to your channel! I am learning stuff about games that I never knew! Keep up the good work!
what I liked the most about it was the move list, it seemed like a mesh up of double dragon 2 and double dragon returns with other added moves , I enjoyed the music remixes as well. ai was top notch also
I'd love to see a Complete History of the Kunio Series! But it'd definitely be a lot of work for you. Over on my channel, I recently did a comparison of the Japanese and American releases of Super Double Dragon and a lot is different between the two. If you have a minute, you might want to give it a look! Keep up the good work, man.
Just got "Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones" on NES for my Birthday (yesterday). I'm glad you've got this episode... it's great to see the many different ports side-by-side, and in this case, "Double Dragon III" is a game that came out so late in the NES' life cycle in the USA that I *never* saw it for rent, for sale, or in any of my friend's collections. I'm guessing you read that kickass interview with the series creator on Polygon? I wish they'd do more articles like that... it was a fascinating way to blow off an hour at work one day for me. Not that it took an hour to read, but I *did* do a lot of supplementary tabbed browsing based on things featured in the text.
This video brings back a lot of memories of my childhood. Me and my brother were huge fans of Double Dragon and spent loads of our dad's money on it at the arcade. A few years later we saw the commercial for Double Dragon 2 on the NES and were so excited because my brother was getting it for his birthday! It was one of our favorites on the NES along with Ninja Gaiden and Contra.
Neon was reviewed badly when it came out, the reviews I saw anyway, but I absolutely loved it. The humor was right up my alley, even though the reviews labeled it as dumb and misogynistic. It was the first game since the N64 that a friend and I geeked out and played co-op mode all day a few times. We drank while we did so, which lowered our skill levels enough to make the game slightly difficult. Everything combined made the whole experience feel like I was a kid playing an NES again.
I'll admit, I have Double Dragon Neon on my Steam wishlist. At first, I wasn't too impressed with how the brothers were portrayed in it. But I watched another clip of how the gameplay works and I want to play it now. However, being the cheap bastard I am, I'm going to wait until the next Steam sale when it's $2. :D
I haven't watched a lot of your videos-I'd have to say that your Kickstarter videos are my favorite-however, these Complete Story series on retro games, I can tell you take a lot of time and research to make these videos, and your love for these games definitely show. I'm glad I found your channel via Larry Bundy, Jr. ('Ello you, again.)
MisanthropikOne man I'm playing the injustice 2 Beta and that game is great. when it comes to beat ups of our time I would say Let It Die(Free for PS4) and Nioh(really impressed by this game playing the demo I had to pre order it)
Cool historical look at Double Dragon 😎....however it needs a new update because several new Double Dragon games & versions/remasters have come out since the end of this video, including a new Double Dragon IV in 2017 (which was programmed by former members of Technos & really feels like a proper sequel in my opinion) and there are several appearances of Double Dragon characters in other games such as WWF Superstars, River City Ransom (and it's sequels), Super Spike V'Ball, Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer & Abobo's Big Adventure....😁✌️
Don't know why you showed Streets of Rage III when talking about dreaded 3rd games, to me that's the best in the series gameplay-wise and a lot of people hate it just because of the experimental computer generated music (which I actually preffer over the 1st 2 games music) I understand people liking the 1st 2 SoR games better for whatever reason but that doesn't make the 3rd one a bad game (specially if you play the Japanese version) The platforming sections in DDII are actually stupidly easy, I don't know why people have so much trouble pressing 2 buttons together to jump, the controls are quite responsive. I agree with you on DDIII for the NES, it's actually a great game. People hate it because it's hard. DD Neon on the other hand to me is one of the worst in the series, way too slow and completely hate upgrade/store system. DD Advance to me is the best in the series.
I try to point everyone in the direction of Double Dragon Neon as possible. I made my own personal history of Double Dragon myself, I was told to check this out. Excellent work
I was a kid and played with my dad and only with 2 players we were able to pass to a certain level using and spamming that jump and spin tornado attack with both characters at the same time xD the game was super hard in my opinion, sometimes i was beaten in the the first lvl without even reaching the elevator :v, recently i've played it again and god i'm even worse now
Probably said it before, I'll probably say it again, but I love your work. The subject matter, the format and the in-jokes? Perfect. I might just marathon these with my cat and a pack of beer. Thank you.
Jesus this brings back memories mate! Recently came across your channel and you've taken me right back to the good old days..😉 Keep up the good work and memories fella 👍
1:20 I can so relate to that. My very first brawler was actually Double Dragon on the Gameboy. I loved it. Never got through the first boss, but I still liked the game. I have played the Atari 2600 version, which I found to be extremely hard. Next brawler, Double Dragon 2 on the NES. Man, that game has become one of my favorite brawlers. I despise the platforming in some versions though... I have discovered Streets of Rage years ago while searching for ROMS and this is still my favorite brawler of all time and one of my many favorite game series on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis. Your video's are superb man. You make quality content and explain everything so well with all the details. I can really hear you are very passionate about the games you talk about, especially the Sega Megadrive games. Even though I like the SNES a lot, the Sega Megadrive is my favorite console of all time too. Keep doing what you are doing, you make excellent content. Cheers!
Didn't know Double Dragon III on the NES was so despised on youtube. I've heard good things about it in other places, and by the looks of it, it doesn't seem bad.
+Bishop Parsard+ I've played battletoads since I was 9 back in 1990, I still play it on occasion to day, and in all of those times, I have never beaten it. In fact, I never got even close to beating it. Yet, I still come back for more because it is a great and entertaining game to play. I agree, games were tougher back then, but you got a real sense of accomplishment when you did manage to win one of them, lol. I know I did. :D
my neighbor managed to go thru the whole SMS DD without getting hit ... remember it till today like it was yesterday :-) he didnt even came into my house, i was at that time living on the ground floor, so he was just standing in the window and from three meters on a 72cm TV .. he managed it ... its 20 years and i still didnt beat his record :-D ... and Renegade, dont start me on that... Had it on Sharp MZ-800 (between Exolon and Saboteur 2 - damn, so many years back and i still remember that it was on tape "7B")... keep up the good work mate! Whenever i watch a US oldie reviewer its like "yeah, wish i had that", but with the UK ones its like "yeah, remeber that, played this, so thats the purpose of this game" :-) ...
Old Shool Hip Hop I think that game gets a lot of shit but I played it all the time. I liked the idea of having other characters and weapons but like all games back then it was continues and keeping your progress that was the problem
Double Dragon 3 for life! Had the best music, best players and you could play for hours and still love it! That was the best game in 1992 or 3 by far. That game kicked so much ass! ! ! LOVE IT STILL . Great video here! How in the world did you get those commercials!
The arcade version of Renegade was so awesome. When it came out on NES I grabbed it right away and was soooooo disappointed. What a crap fest. And don't get me started on the NES version of DD. Double Dragon. DOUBLE. One player only.
Yep, I was a disappointed little boy when I got my NES copy... So much was changed, with such bad graphics and sound... And yeah, no simultaneous play - although they added that horribly-made alternative game built-in where characters would fight each other kind of like Street Fighter - likely a waste of memory they could have put back into the actual game. Oddly, I still played it for hours and hours and hours back then... I remember getting near the end and almost having a panic attack after pausing it and going to eat dinner, because all I could think about was passing the game ASAP and "what if I die and have to start over from scratch?" And yeah, I died shortly upon resuming play. Pretty sure I stayed up all night until I got it. Video games were definitely my first addiction/obsession, and I understand why my parents were always a bit skeptical about them (and I thought THEY were crazy for not understanding at the time)...
Age 9 (1988) I was the area “poster child” for Muscular Dystrophy, in my wheelchair. One weeklong fundraiser at the mall had those who gave $1 a chance to choose an icecube to drop on a wok. Their would either be a real diamond or cubic zirconia inside. The last day I had a chance to try. It wasn’t rigged for me- but I got a diamond! I sold it off ASAP, bought a SEGA Master System and DOUBLE DRAGON! My brother and I played it all the time (2-player, baby!). That and Phantasy Star 1 are the 2 games we truly bonded over. It was all meant to happen as it did. Age 19 I discovered I was misdiagnosed, after spending ages 7-14 in a wheelchair. That was a mind-screw, as MD kills every single man with it, usually by age 35-40 down to toddlers. I knew I was going to die. Then “whoops- we were wrong. You never had Muscular Dystrophy.” But I still have my Master System and Double Dragon, and great memories with my brother.
Jeeeeesus, DD NEon is your pick? DD Neon?!! That's like someone that loves a good burger saying McDonalds is the best. Puh-lease, are you for real? *sigh* Dude, you barely even mentioned the best one- the DD Gameboy Advance. I mean, it has the whole kit and caboodle, brilliant graphics that improve on the original and yet still stay true it, incredible soundtrack. It has EVERYTHING. Secret power moves, multiple routes aikido blocks, a variety of weapons, double tap run, almost every enemy featured in the DD series put into one game. Want more? Storyline, cutscenes, survivor mode...??? Difficulty choices? Frankly, you'd be hard-pushed to find a finer tribute to the original. It gives the fans everything they could dream of. Shit bro, I mean, no offence but you claim to be a guy that knows his beat-em ups, and you've not even mentioned some of the best scrolling beat em ups there is- Crimefighters, Aliens vs Predator, Dungeons and Dragons--for example. And I'll bet you've not even played the king of all beat em ups. SpikeOut. SpikeOut is THE best beat-em up game ever made. Not that Battle Street shite. The arcade original. ua-cam.com/video/S89j2CnxP2I/v-deo.html It's still popular here in Japan, there are guys that can one coin it, and the skill required to do so is insane. OK, not meaning to rant. Love your channel. I do appreciate the work you put into your vids. I'll go watch the SORF one. And if you don't even mention the SORF Remake project and sing it's praises then I'll know for sure you have no ability to know good games.
Just played DDN last night. Love that game. The shop, moves, an stances were awesome. Made it feel like an RPG but more simple with reasonable replay value.
This is an amazing retrospective of Double Dragon that I have seen so far (even though DD GBA and DD IV are not on there), and dare I say you did such an awesome job in doing this. I want to clarify something about the Arcade version of Double Dragon III that I'm not sure if anyone in the comments mentioned or not, but that game was actually developed by a Japanese company called East Technology (they made a few other games, including the strange Arcade shmup GIGANDES (which actually has some great music, which I highly recommend you check out on UA-cam if you can find it)).
Loved this Dan. Double Dragon has been a favorite arcade game of mine since a child and definitely one I would actually have a dedicated cab for if I had the money and space. My fave home port has and will always be the Game boy version as that's the one I grew up playing. Really glad the Neo Geo tournament fighter got a mention as I recently discovered this game on my MVS multicart and was pleasantly surprised by how well it played. Great work as always buddy :)
+shockz16 thanks so much buddy. It was a hard video to make. However, its done really well so happy I did it. Also love doing these sort of vids because i discover games like the neo geo games, I had no idea originally. Thanks 4 commenting buddy
Finally got around to watching this one all the way through--incredible job, I see why it took so many hours for you to render this beast! Definitely learned a lot about the various ports of Double Dragon games...and now I know why I never really liked most of the games in the series, since Technos Japan wasn't involved with most. Again, great job man, and props for working in a clip of "Once Upon A Time in High School." Love that movie.
Double Dragon - the first game I gladly waited in line to play in the arcades. There was such an energy around this title when it first came out! I didn't see that type of excitement again until the release of Street Fighter 2 years later...
Dood. Just got here, not even watched the video yet but THANK YOU IN ADVANCE MAN ! I really love ur content, and double dragon. Ty very much for doing this for us all man.
Thank you for mentioning the Master System version. I've alwaysfel felt too many people would refer to the inferior NES version when talking about it. Also, I suggest giving Double Dragon Advance on the GBA another chance, since it was mostly a brief footnote in this video. I found it to be extremely responsive once you've memorized the moveset and start doling out the beatings. It was truly a good remake of the first game.
Bro, I have been watching a lot of your videos lately. Well done sir! You are usually spot on. I also love DD NEO. Thanks for all the hard work you do for these. Also I think your accent is a nice change of pace.
I'm in the minority who hates Double Dragon Neon. I played it when it was free on PS3 and I couldn't stand how the enemies can interrupt your combos, as a result I couldn't be arsed to grind the points necessary to proceed through it.
Not the only one, i got it on the XB1 and i thought it was awful and i deleted it off my HD within a week after playing it for 2 hours and i got to the third level and i know what your all thinking "why dont you git gud bro" and my response is i havent got time to GET GOOD at a game that is slow and frankly a little bit stupid
You're not alone, man. Slow paced, excessively grindy, and visually unappealing, to me. Huge disappointment, back in the days it came out. And, related to the video (brilliant as always, Dan!): I get the 'number 3 syndrome' reference but... Bare Knuckle III? Really? It's a phenomenal game on the MD, in my opinion the most solid and advanced beat'em up on 16 bit consoles. US and PAL versions are stupidly censored, and that hurts the overall experience, but - even if I'm the first one totally understanding the love SoR2 usually gets over 1 and 3 - I'd pick up BKIII any time, if I had to chose my favourite entry in the whole trilogy. I also quite enjoy Golden Axe III, but yeah, I know i'm in a very small minority here. :D
I have fond memories of playing DD2 with my little brother on the NES as kids. I think I was 5 or 6 when we got our copy of it. We weren't great it lol but we had fun replaying those first few levels over and over.
Great retrospective dude but I'm REALLY surprised you missed the fantastic Double Dragon Advance for the Game Boy Advance. That was another awesome remake of the original but with everything expanded upon. New graphics, new character designs, new moves, new weapons, new levels, new enemies, etc. Great entry in the series that not enough people played.
Disliked comment for neglecting to point out his dismissal of that godawful portable "travel" version in grayscale with one generic controller button for everything. Those were the worst!
Super Double Dragon is seriously underrated. The game actually had choreography going on with its move sets and it even interacted with other characters. The music was kick-ass and the graphics where pretty good. I think this video could have given this game more attention. As the game itself was rushed into production: it was released unfinished. Marian was to become a cop among other things that deserved attention.
In the UK Double Dragon was respected as an ARCADE game, not a shitty 8 bit port. Nobody thought the home versions were better, unlike American NES fan boys.
I'll admit, I'm american and I grew up on the NES versions without having played the arcade editions. However, I picked up the Double Dragon trilogy on Steam during their winter sale 6 months ago. It made perfect sense: I've always wanted to play the arcade originals and it was on sale, so I picked it up. After playing the original arcade ports, I was impressed and can't believe that I haven't played them before. Sure, I still go back and play the NES versions once in a while, but the arcade originals are superior and my absolute favorites.
21:14 YEEESSS!! "Battletoads/Double Dragon" that was my first "BATTLETOADS" game!! So many great memories playing that game with my best friend back then!! I was around 7 or 8 years old....
Crazy how little time you spent on dd4 or super double dragon which was the best of all besides dd1. It was the right amount of improvement feeling way more realistic and advanced with the way you could beat them up while still looking and feeling like the original we all loved. I promise you guys! If you have never played super double dragon you will thank me after you do. It was amazing to play with a brother or friend.!!
The Double Dragon games for NES were a huge part of my childhood, and I still play them on a pretty regular basis now. I didn't know there was so much hate for The Sacred Stones, it's difficult but honestly one of the finest games for the NES. Great graphics, and a fantastic soundtrack. Double Dragon Neon is abysmal in that it took something that was very cool (along with Contra) and turned it into a goofy, tongue-in-cheek joke. We need a new DD that puts the bad assery back in the series and not a game that's completely self aware and depreciative.
Double dragon 3 is hard as nails. Your choices for versions are either microtransactions or a game where you get only 1 life D; You do not know fear until you've seen a boss just flinch at your jump kick and not fall down.
Awesome videos. Good production values and great infos. You deserve a lot more subscribers. And the 'backflip move' from DD3 is called a "German Suplex' ^_^.
I never understood why DD 3 on the NES garnered such hate. I loved it! It was nice to have the addition of the extra playable characters even though Bimmy 😉 and Jimmy were still the best. You kinda felt a sense of accomplishment by beating them and adding them to your roster.
I had this on the master system around 1990. 2 player was brilliant! I used to play it with my cousin it's making me feel so nostalgic thinking about it.
I love your videos i like longer videos to sit down and watch, i had a sega master system and double dragon me and my best friend was the only 2 kids to have sega master systems. I got a nes later but my first system was the sega and it will always have a special place in my heart and mind.
I played a lot of Double Dragon games, especially the Nintendo one. I loved them. But Wayforward is an amazing company. I'm a huge fan of their games. Double Dragon Neon is Gorgeous & my absolute favorite. It needs to be ported to the Nintendo switch physically.
Fun fact that I never see mentioned: Double Dragon and its predecessor Kunio-kun actually take place in the same universe, as there are a few characters that appear in both series
Speaking of the Warriors, there was a really good PS2 beat em up of not only the film, but a pretty decent prequel story line too. There was another Warriors game later on in 2009 or so, but I haven't played that one.
I still frequent Double Dragon 1 & 2 on my PS4. Everyone's always anxious for the next new big Sony game release and I'm constantly checking Arcade Archives to see what kind of nostalgia I can get my hands on.
Thanks for the shout out buddy!
+Bimmy Lee you are a fucking legend mate hahahaha

10/10 comment.
Still love that AVGN joke, cracks me up!

Double Dragon 2 (NES), Double Dragon 3 (NES) and Super Double Dragon (SNES) are the one I played and they are the best IMO

totally (agree) . dude knows not about DD apparently, to the fact that dd neon as his #1 and he rubbish the gba ver. he needs to quit really.
I loved the 3rd one on the NES. many hours of playing it with my younger brother.

But I watched another clip of how the gameplay works and I want to play it now. However, being the cheap bastard I am, I'm going to wait until the next Steam sale when it's $2. :D
+Bystandah $2 or $30, you'll be happy, especially if you have buddies to play with you.
Probably not with a buddy. Everyone I know is too much into that CoD or Battlefield shit.
@@TheVonzilla the real question is, does Boognish approve??????????
These "Complete History" videos are my favorite. Keep 'em coming guy!
The next 3 are all Complete History Videos :) (that is if I can keep up with the editing process lol)
Right on! Can't wait.
DD3 "Back flip move" is a German Suplex
I shouted this out when he said it. Really glad this comment is here.
@@MrNewland101same 😂
I haven't watched a lot of your videos-I'd have to say that your Kickstarter videos are my favorite-however, these Complete Story series on retro games, I can tell you take a lot of time and research to make these videos, and your love for these games definitely show. I'm glad I found your channel via Larry Bundy, Jr. ('Ello you, again.)
Looking forward to Double Dragon IV this month
+AvatarTre Harris me 2 :D
AvatarTre Harris Thanks for the news!!!!! You just made my life!!!!
You're welcome! A lot of great games are coming out this year ^___^
AvatarTre Harris LMAO!! Jesus, I don't need to hear that! My pockets will be empty this year!
Don't know why you showed Streets of Rage III when talking about dreaded 3rd games, to me that's the best in the series gameplay-wise and a lot of people hate it just because of the experimental computer generated music (which I actually preffer over the 1st 2 games music) I understand people liking the 1st 2 SoR games better for whatever reason but that doesn't make the 3rd one a bad game (specially if you play the Japanese version)
The platforming sections in DDII are actually stupidly easy, I don't know why people have so much trouble pressing 2 buttons together to jump, the controls are quite responsive.
I agree with you on DDIII for the NES, it's actually a great game. People hate it because it's hard.
DD Neon on the other hand to me is one of the worst in the series, way too slow and completely hate upgrade/store system.
DD Advance to me is the best in the series.
+A Neil i am quite a big fan of streets of rage 3 (japan version) however, i still think its the weakest of all 3
Daniel Ibbertson ugh the pal version got so screwed with the.music, it slows and speeds up randomly
Bruv you have no idea how monumental your channel is. Respect.
OH MY GOD DO AN ENTIRE KUNIO VIDEO PLEASE.
I try to point everyone in the direction of Double Dragon Neon as possible. I made my own personal history of Double Dragon myself, I was told to check this out. Excellent work
double dragon 3 was so ooooowwwwwwww hard for the nes.
try japanese version, more health and less enemies to fight
OMG Girl omg your eyes are beautiful..yes dd3 was a pain in the ass lol I recently finally passed it on a nes emulator
Those eyes👀
oliver closehoff Christ man you need to finish elementary school before you try to comment
Thank you.
Wasn't Combatribes on the SNES supposed to be a Double Dragon game at some point?
+Larry Bundy Jr i literally have no idea, u are indeed the guru my man
ha Larry and Daniel, the best retro youtubers!
I could see that, since both DD3 arcade and Combattribes both used the digital-style font for the hit points display.
Combatribes was more true as sequel than DD3
RETRO GAMING ARCHIVE
I'd say it feels more akin to Renegade, but yeah, it would have fitted far more as a sequel than DD3 does.
Jesus this brings back memories mate!
Recently came across your channel and you've taken me right back to the good old days..😉
Keep up the good work and memories fella 👍
The Double Dragon Arcade was and still is the best. Billy Mitchell = "Winning " 👍
the new 3d gane neon is very bad the graphics and sniation are stiff and uggly
It´s pretty unfair and thats the reason for all the hate. No Continues... I never gonna beat this game
it fucking blows.
It was just too damn hard. No continues, which I automatically friggin' HATE. Game wise it was fine, but the difficulty just sunk it.
Mainly cus of AVGN's video. His vids aren't meant to be taken seriously but his fans are a hate mob for every game he reviews.
my neighbor managed to go thru the whole SMS DD without getting hit ... remember it till today like it was yesterday :-) he didnt even came into my house, i was at that time living on the ground floor, so he was just standing in the window and from three meters on a 72cm TV .. he managed it ... its 20 years and i still didnt beat his record :-D ... and Renegade, dont start me on that...
Double dragon 4 released now ;)
Double Dragon 3 for NES was my first Double Dragon and I loved that game a lot, playing with friends it was a blast!
Old Shool Hip Hop I think that game gets a lot of shit but I played it all the time. I liked the idea of having other characters and weapons but like all games back then it was continues and keeping your progress that was the problem
20:19 No mention of all the scrapped material which would've made SDD 10x better?
Double Dragon 3 for life! Had the best music, best players and you could play for hours and still love it! That was the best game in 1992 or 3 by far. That game kicked so much ass! ! ! LOVE IT STILL . Great video here! How in the world did you get those commercials!
The arcade version of Renegade was so awesome. When it came out on NES I grabbed it right away and was soooooo disappointed. What a crap fest. And don't get me started on the NES version of DD. Double Dragon. DOUBLE. One player only.
+UncleDeluxe it was the 1st releass so i can let it go. But yeah i agree. Massive disapointment
Yoooo the fact that you opened up with STREETS OF RAGE being your favorite, just won you my instant subscription ✊🏿🔥🔥🔥💯
Hahaha massive thanks mate
Jeeeeesus, DD NEon is your pick? DD Neon?!! That's like someone that loves a good burger saying McDonalds is the best. Puh-lease, are you for real?
*sigh*
Dude, you barely even mentioned the best one- the DD Gameboy Advance.
The arcade original.
ua-cam.com/video/S89j2CnxP2I/v-deo.html
It's still popular here in Japan, there are guys that can one coin it, and the skill required to do so is insane.
OK, not meaning to rant. Love your channel. I do appreciate the work you put into your vids. I'll go watch the SORF one. And if you don't even mention the SORF Remake project and sing it's praises then I'll know for sure you have no ability to know good games.
Yeah this was a joke video...
Very well made video. Felt like a documentary! This channel is criminally undersubscribed!
+Real1 ahhhh thanks so much buddy, this was indeed a passion project of mine. Crazy good games.
Projared...oh geez...
Just played DDN last night. Love that game. The shop, moves, an stances were awesome. Made it feel like an RPG but more simple with reasonable replay value.
You need to make one of these history videos about Space Channel 5
+Helloz World altho nothing is written yet this will 100% happen
Daniel Ibbertson :D
+Helloz World was looking up some history if this last night actually :) it may be coming sooner than u think
Daniel Ibbertson Yay, Thank You!! :D ^^ Ulala awaits!
Daniel Ibbertson double dragon on the gba is a masterpiece 2nd neon why didn't you mention it on your review.
Not enough focus on the GBA version in my opinion. But otherwise, another great video!
+dk227 huge thanks bud. I think i need to try the gba port again lol
Not enough focus Daniel didn't even talk about it at all he just mentioned it and it is the BEST version of the original.
Double Dragon 2 was best on nes
Finally got around to watching this one all the way through--incredible job, I see why it took so many hours for you to render this beast! Definitely learned a lot about the various ports of Double Dragon games...and now I know why I never really liked most of the games in the series, since Technos Japan wasn't involved with most. Again, great job man, and props for working in a clip of "Once Upon A Time in High School." Love that movie.
It's Bimmy and Jimmy...lol
Bimmy and Jammy are in Double Dragon Neon. (Jammy was created to avoid the name Jilly)
Double Dragon - the first game I gladly waited in line to play in the arcades. There was such an energy around this title when it first came out! I didn't see that type of excitement again until the release of Street Fighter 2 years later...
DOUBLE DRAGON IV IS OUT NOW ON PS4 AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS!
Dood. Just got here, not even watched the video yet but THANK YOU IN ADVANCE MAN !
I really love ur content, and double dragon.
Ty very much for doing this for us all man.
+A Voz de Azeroth thanks buddy. Really appreciate all ur comments. This video was a hard one to make :) hope u enjoyed it
15:27 Wow, did you just call a "suplex" a "sort of backflip move" jeez that's weird.
Most people on earth know its called a suplex....
+Chowdaire wuite a few people have said that... Defo need to try it again.
Thanks for watching bud, im glad u enjoyed it
please do Samurai Shodown?
+Kosan Stanojevic thats an awesome suggestion
Bro, I have been watching a lot of your videos lately. Well done sir! You are usually spot on. I also love DD NEO. Thanks for all the hard work you do for these. Also I think your accent is a nice change of pace.
+RICO “Ragin Rico” ahhhhhhh thanks buddy :) really appreciate the nice words
just gotta say the double dragon game on the nes is the best soundtrack on a game period.
+noboto78 it is damn good 4 sure
noboto78 arcade is better
Mega man 2 has it beat, but not by much
Double Dragon 2 for the NES has the best soundtrack.
@@ericstreibich4509 MM 2 doesn't even have the best Mega Man soundtrack. Mega Man 3 is superior.
Awesome. No matter the ups or down, still my favorite game franchise of all time. Hail Double Dragon.
Same here. It's a grinding game, and that's not for everyone.
diegofloor yeah in an rpg grinding is fine but in a side scrolling beat em up that I play to purely relax you shouldn't have to grind
mcchrism Then it's not Double Dragon.
Double Dragon IV has released since this video and has helped the series ALOT
Dd3 nes is good game screw avgn and hipsters
I have fond memories of playing DD2 with my little brother on the NES as kids. I think I was 5 or 6 when we got our copy of it. We weren't great it lol but we had fun replaying those first few levels over and over.
Neon is shit, Double Dragon Advance is the best.
Exactly, wtf is with this dude? Neon felt nothing like DD mechanically.
Great entry in the series that not enough people played.
disliked video due to dismissing the gba version.
Disliked comment for neglecting to point out his dismissal of that godawful portable "travel" version in grayscale with one generic controller button for everything. Those were the worst!
Well gee, thanks for letting us know why you disliked it. I’m sure everyone was wondering.
the room of care is down the hall
Good point that was a good game
Double Dragon Advance is the best game in the franchise.
Urgh, that Double Dragon movie. Such crap.
Hahaha, that initial opening line was perfect, followed by the "cut" to SOR2. Brilliant.
Americans vastly overrate the NES games
I agree
Almost everybody views the NES with rose tinted glasses. I have good memories, but I simply can't go back to the older stuff, fun to watch though.
Sure, I still go back and play the NES versions once in a while, but the arcade originals are superior and my absolute favorites.
ojideagu arcade is better
Double Dragon 4 came out RIGHT after this and is friggin amazing if you think 2 for the NES was great.
I always loved unleashing the flying knee into enemies in Double Dragon 2. Used to laugh my butt off when i was a kid
Nothing beats Target Renegade , that was Renegade 2 .. and was a 2 player game before Double Dragon..
I'm pre-commenting because I haven't time to watch this before work, but I can't wait to do so later. Thanks for the upload!!
AH! YES! I was hoping you would point out "Bimmy and Jimmy" at some point. Well done, haha. Very well done.
Double dragon 3 is hard as nails. Your choices for versions are either microtransactions or a game where you get only 1 life D;
You do not know fear until you've seen a boss just flinch at your jump kick and not fall down.
Awesome videos. Good production values and great infos. You deserve a lot more subscribers. And the 'backflip move' from DD3 is called a "German Suplex' ^_^.
BattleToads and Double Dragon was a very enjoyable game for me, Thanks for this video, it is very interesting!
Double Dragon 3 was our first first class experience with bootleg NES market in India. Very hard to beat. My brother was Billy and I was Jimmy!
Double dragon on the master system is the first game I remember going out and personally buying for my birthday
I never understood why DD 3 on the NES garnered such hate. I loved it! It was nice to have the addition of the extra playable characters even though Bimmy 😉 and Jimmy were still the best. You kinda felt a sense of accomplishment by beating them and adding them to your roster.
Awesome stuff ! DD was the only game I used to stand in line to play !
I had this on the master system around 1990. 2 player was brilliant! I used to play it with my cousin it's making me feel so nostalgic thinking about it.
I remember those bald, bigger bastards. There's loads of them in the later levels.
I love your videos i like longer videos to sit down and watch, i had a sega master system and double dragon me and my best friend was the only 2 kids to have sega master systems. I got a nes later but my first system was the sega and it will always have a special place in my heart and mind.
+Chad Hay ahhhhh im glad you enjoy the content :) thanks chad
Fantastic video mate.Brought back some awesome memory's of playing 2 player DD on the Master System back in the day :)
+davpreec ahhhhh my mission is complete :) full on same memorys over here mate :D
Daniel Ibbertson :D
Subscribed, that's so much for editing this!!
This was a very Gr8 and detail view of Double Dragon!!! Gr8 Work!!!
THANK YOU FOR SAYING HIS NAME AS "BILLY" , The Mandela effect is now calling him "Bimmie"
I still frequent Double Dragon 1 & 2 on my PS4. Everyone's always anxious for the next new big Sony game release and I'm constantly checking Arcade Archives to see what kind of nostalgia I can get my hands on.
+Wardner213 hahaha you know where its at mate. Pure fun with games like this... Simple fun
