Kirby Airride was a big part of my childhood. I would go on City Trial with my cousins when I was younger, and my oldest cousin would make a silly, stupid story with talking karts, evil Kirby's, idiotic romance, fighting, and more! It was so hilariously fun!
I would literally sell my soul to Nintendo for them to make another version of this game. sequal, remake, I don't care. take my soul, do as you please.
The defining characteristic of the Shadow Star is actually that it's really good at drafting: if you move right behind another vehicle and start tailing it, you'll quickly accelerate to a speed that outpaces nearly every other vehicle in the game. The Shadow Star also has good attack power and incredibly high gliding power, behind only the Winged Star and Dragoon in terms of flight ability. Overall it's a _very_ good vehicle, which is why NPCs in city trial always prioritize it over every other air ride machine in the game. (Yes, I played this game almost nonstop as a kid, why do you ask?)
Zennistrad2 Huh, I’ve 100%ed the game and, as a kid, considered the Shadow Star my favorite as a child, and didn’t even realize that it was better at drafting... learn something new every day.
I remember this game getting absolutely destroyed by critics. It taught a young me a lesson not to take what sites like IGN say as gospel. Because I had an absolute blast with Kirby AirRide. The base racing is fun, but city trials is where I had the most fun.
7 years ago my friend told me about this cool game called Kirby Air Ride, I knew literally nothing about Kirby at the time, I never even heard of Kirby before and after my first time playing Kirby Air Ride, I went over to his house every single day and play it for literally 7+ hours, and now Kirby is one of my favorite franchises, and I also recently got Kirby Air Ride myself, but the disc doesn't work right, so i can't even play it haha. But I remember we would play free run on City Trial and we'd keep going around the map trying to kill each other, and then I would get the Rex Wheelie and ram into him and one shot him, over and over and over and over, it was an insane amount of fun, and I don't think Nintendo realizes how much money the could make if they made a second Air Ride game

For a Kirby Air Ride sequel, they need to get a bigger character line-up. The ones they have were fine, but the lack of other characters from the franshice like Ribbon and Marx would be like Mario Kart only having Mario, Luigi and Yoshi.

I just wanted to re-post my comment from the earlier video. I agree with you that the checklist system from Kirby Air Ride is glorious in terms of rewarding the player for going out of their way to complete different tasks by giving out unlock-able reward items and such however, when you compared it to the trophy list system that PlayStation has I just don't see how it could work if it was implemented there. The PlayStation trophy lists measures your completion of games and the trophies you've earned across multiple titles you have played over time. It acts like a scoring system letting you know your completion rate of the game you're playing and the amount of different tasks you still have yet to do, while KAR's system was made solely for it's own design and is actually needed to see how to unlock certain things. They're quite different measuring systems in my opinion! Anyway, I enjoyed the video regardless, nice job Antdude! :D

So basically Smash takes a lot of concepts from Air Ride. Smash 4 specifically. I mean it takes the aforementioned Checklist and Smash Run in the 3DS version is basically the Smash version of City Trial. I think they even reused some assets from City Trial
+anjake01 All of the SFX from the Melee menu are reused in Air Ride (but some of them has a much, MUCH lower pitch compared to Melee), heck, even the debug mode menu is similar to the Melee one!
Kirby"s airride was one of my favorite GameCube games and as a kid I would play it every time I went to my friend's house. 111/10 would play for the rest of my life.
Yes! This was my favorite game on the Gamecube as a kid for the City Trial alone. I always used to go into the free play mode of it though, which was arguably more fun to just mess around in. Plus, walking around in the Volcano and seeing just where I could get if I jumped off that big Sky Island. And climbing the sky tree... Never got all the way up there though.
One of my favorite things to do when I was younger was go into city trial free run, clear every tree, rock, and building, open every path, and then proceed to park every star somewhere in the overworld depending on their color scheme. I still do it sometimes today
I love City Trial so much. I spent so many hours in this city with my siblings, on my own as well as in "Kirby Air Ride Nights" with my friends. It was never boring. We never once were able to defeat King Dedede though, which is a bit ridiculous given the fact, that I played this game like 100 hours (or more. Who knows right? There is no way of knowing)

I remember playing the Free Run mode in City Trial with my brother and we would set up our own skits and own vehicle shops and everything. City Trial really is fantastic no matter how you play it. Combined with the other modes, Kirby Air Ride is a must-own for the Gamecube.
My brother and I still play city trial regularly after almost 20 years, and we keep on learning new details in the game’s mechanics. We just figured out what exactly the weight patch does lol
i would love to see city trial be expanded and included in an f-zero game(i feel that would be the perfect selling point for a new game and would fit with having captain falcon and other racers hunt bounties and objectives while racing in unique missions.:3)

Used to play it all the time when I was 5 and I still play it today on my gamecube. Great game. Got my fiance obsessed with it too. He always asks when we can play together ❤ 23 now and it feels like it'll never get old.
City trial... The pinnacle of childhood playdates. I remember when my brothers and friends would all take turns on the GameCube trying to blast one another in city trial. We never cared for the challenges at the end, we just wanted to blast one another with the power ups and stuff. O and getting the dragoon. Definitely my favorite racing game thus far, beats Mario kart IMO just because of City trial. Air ride and the first 3 smash Bros were my favorite games as a kid. Not cuz of the quality of the game (which were both great), but because couch co-op with your closest friends just squashes all the online mish-mash that we play with today. Some people say we're entering a golden age of video games but IMHO that period has already passed.
This is actually my favorite Kirby game. I played this game a lot, especially City Trial. I loved going around powering my stats up. The Air Ride mode was also fun, but I didn't play Top Ride as much as Air Ride and City Trial though. I wouldn't say it's my favorite racing game on the Gamecube as I like F-Zero GX, Double Dash, and Sonic Riders more, but it's still a ton of fun. I remember getting this game 4 years ago. I didn't play Kirby games until 2011 when I got Epic Yarn, Mass Attack, and Return to Dreamland on Christmas. I did know of him though from playing Super Smash Bros.
One of the key parts of my childhood, beating crap out of my older bro in Kirby Air Ride shooting lasers at him with plasma. After that we'd go into city trial and mess around.
Here’s what my sister, cousins, and I did the absolute most in this game. I unlocked all the stars, then we would go into city trial free run and play hide and seek with the stars. One person would look away while the other person hid the stars. Once they’re all hidden the second person tries to find them all. Sometimes time limits were used but usually not. I like trying to get them into the hard to reach spot inside the volcano, or put them in golf holes, or behind the water wheel. So much fun was had back then.
So, funny thing is with City Trial, I used to play wth my lil bro, imagining I was doing my own lil Kirby series about Kirby and his adventures in the city, while telling P2 to get out of his house, pretty fun
After seeing Rainbow Curse, maybe I see why Sakurai hates spin-offs. It tries to be a mainline Kirby, but it’s obviously a spin-off. This one tries to be its own thing though, and I love it.
Fun fact:the intro music for this game was also used at the beginning of Rosalna & Luna in smash trailer,the part where Kirby rides his star on rainbow road
This was literally the first video game I owned. It's also the only console game my mother has ever played even once, with the exception of Wii Sports.
Kirby Air Ride was the bomb! I played that shit non stop as a kid. City trial was just incredible. There was nothing else quite like it, even today it remains in its own category. And it was just so much fun. The freedom to customize your ride, explore the city, steal other rides, it was just phenomenal.

My brother and I still play city trial regularly after almost 20 years, and we keep on learning new details in the game’s mechanics. We just figured out what exactly the weight patch does lol

i would love to see city trial be expanded and included in an f-zero game(i feel that would be the perfect selling point for a new game and would fit with having captain falcon and other racers hunt bounties and objectives while racing in unique missions.:3)
LOVED this game when I was younger! I spent a lot of time in City Trial, and the challenges and the checklist were really awesome, too! Great video, man

Used to play it all the time when I was 5 and I still play it today on my gamecube. Great game. Got my fiance obsessed with it too. He always asks when we can play together ❤ 23 now and it feels like it'll never get old.
And I still have not completed the checklist ☠️

City trial... The pinnacle of childhood playdates. I remember when my brothers and friends would all take turns on the GameCube trying to blast one another in city trial. We never cared for the challenges at the end, we just wanted to blast one another with the power ups and stuff. O and getting the dragoon. Definitely my favorite racing game thus far, beats Mario kart IMO just because of City trial.
Air ride and the first 3 smash Bros were my favorite games as a kid. Not cuz of the quality of the game (which were both great), but because couch co-op with your closest friends just squashes all the online mish-mash that we play with today. Some people say we're entering a golden age of video games but IMHO that period has already passed.
Free mode on City Trial is nice, too, since you get to mess around with all the air ride machines without a time limit.
This is actually my favorite Kirby game. I played this game a lot, especially City Trial. I loved going around powering my stats up. The Air Ride mode was also fun, but I didn't play Top Ride as much as Air Ride and City Trial though. I wouldn't say it's my favorite racing game on the Gamecube as I like F-Zero GX, Double Dash, and Sonic Riders more, but it's still a ton of fun. I remember getting this game 4 years ago. I didn't play Kirby games until 2011 when I got Epic Yarn, Mass Attack, and Return to Dreamland on Christmas. I did know of him though from playing Super Smash Bros.
One of the key parts of my childhood, beating crap out of my older bro in Kirby Air Ride shooting lasers at him with plasma. After that we'd go into city trial and mess around.
I would love to see this game to make a comeback on either the switch or 3DS.

Here’s what my sister, cousins, and I did the absolute most in this game. I unlocked all the stars, then we would go into city trial free run and play hide and seek with the stars. One person would look away while the other person hid the stars. Once they’re all hidden the second person tries to find them all. Sometimes time limits were used but usually not. I like trying to get them into the hard to reach spot inside the volcano, or put them in golf holes, or behind the water wheel. So much fun was had back then.
I used to spend HOURS almost every day playing City Trial, this was my ultimate childhood game.

So, funny thing is with City Trial, I used to play wth my lil bro, imagining I was doing my own lil Kirby series about Kirby and his adventures in the city, while telling P2 to get out of his house, pretty fun
After seeing Rainbow Curse, maybe I see why Sakurai hates spin-offs. It tries to be a mainline Kirby, but it’s obviously a spin-off. This one tries to be its own thing though, and I love it.
Fun fact:the intro music for this game was also used at the beginning of Rosalna & Luna in smash trailer,the part where Kirby rides his star on rainbow road

Kirby Air Ride was the bomb! I played that shit non stop as a kid. City trial was just incredible. There was nothing else quite like it, even today it remains in its own category. And it was just so much fun. The freedom to customize your ride, explore the city, steal other rides, it was just phenomenal.
