It was CREEPY. That one question really showed how tense this story was. They were basically being FORCED to take a side and not allowed to remain neutral. We all know that they won't get killed since they are the MAIN CHARACTERS though. Probably get taken prisoner at gunpoint.

The Cali Texas alliance seems non sensical at first but if both states seceded for different reasons, and were both attacked by Washington as a result, they would likely put their differences aside; at least for a time.
That's what I figured ... will have to see if we are right.
A shaky truce at best, given how radically different California is from Texas.
It makes sense since California and Texas would be the two most likely to leave. It would be an alliance of convenience as both would need each other to make it work. You don't need to be best pals to have an alliance if you have a common goal and a common enemy. History has shown that many times two sides can come together despite major differences if there is a larger threat.
Also California has almost the same amount of Republicans as Texas… and the republicans there have a lot more guns than the democrats for sure haha so maybe they took over California and then joined with Texas?

TX and CA as an alliance could be plausible if they both succeeded for different reasons and had to face the federal government together.

I think it's more like Washington is now a tyrannical regime (3rd term President etc.) trying to stay in power no matter what and Texas and California being two of the largest economies in the country would work together. It also looks like the Florida Alliance is a thing, and some sort of New York alliance as well (there's a map shown in the trailer in a mirror and you can see how the country is divided in this world) so it's much more plausible than so many people seem to think.
It would make more sense than people are saying, both huge economies, always talking about secession and given the right governments

TX and CA could leave the Union if the federal goverment didnt agree politically. Both states are so large they could run as if they were their own countries. I really believe we are in pre civil war situation now. Many people are moving to states that align with their political beliefs. Also whats happening in Colorado with removing Trump from the ballot may trigger political division to point of pushing for states taking sides.
It's addressed in the movie that they speculate the WF will turn on each other once DC is defeated

If a civil war does happen i believe many like myself would opt out of such battles and leave for the borders. For either canada or mexico. We must always be aware of lawlessness and prison breakouts. No food or water. No electricity. No fuel. Basically a break down of resources. No medicines or medical teams.

The big question on this IS the military. Would they blindly follow orders from their Commander-in-Chief? Would they split based on their political views? Remember, the Civil War had 2 graduates from West Point, Grant and Lee.
Most of them would not. But some would blindly follow orders and just do what they are told.

At the time of the Civil War people identified to a state and not the nation. Lee was offered command of the Union Army by Lincoln, but declined because he considered himself a Virginian above all else. He resigned his commission to the US Army and took the commission as commander of the army of Northern Virginia CSA.
I sometimes wonder how many carriers , destroyers and subs would end up in Galveston , Houston. Mobile Al. or Jackson Fl.
Where I live who's orders would the commanders of Ft. Riley and Mc Connell AFB follow. According to the movies map almost every state that pulls away has the heavy mechanized unit posts. You also have the National Guard and ANG units which when put together is a formidable force.
This is going to be the new Fight Club for half of a generation to love for exactly the opposite of the point.

Watched this last night. Garland is a savant and needs to make more movies.
This is tense, thought provoking and visually astonishing. Plemons should not be allowed to play this sort of character because he is too bloody good at it.

Trailer for this movie is best advertisement for long term food storage, guns, ammunition, camping and survival gear. Also, this movie being released on an election year ? I'm glad to have a movie like this to "woke" me up. If Chuck Norris where in this movie ? But, he's not. So, I guess it's a thousand years of darkness.

I like that you both took the time to react to this trailer. Really interesting to watch you react to something that could be considered outside the usual for you both. This trailer was intense, to say the least. This felt too close to reality, even a bit scary.
Very scary in fact and I think with all that’s going on with Trump and his supporters I think it’s very irresponsible to put this out prior to the election. This will give those people ideas.

That movie SUCKED. 1. It was a dark comedy SATIRE and did not take itself seriously enough as this movie will and 2. It did not have the budget needed for the EPIC SCALE that this new movie will have.

I’m interested in this film because of A24, Alex Garland (of Annihilation & Ex Machina) , & Jesse Plemons & the rest of the cast.
War for most people in the Global North only exists in the headlines of their news or on their phone screens about some far off land. It’s unnerving to have to contemplate it being on your doorstep. So I’m interested to see how this story plays out.
A "hot" civil war like shown in this movie with the actual military involved etc. is more unlikely than likely - but it's certainly possible. In this day and age, it'll just be a guerilla style war, street to street. But who knows I guess.
Especially in a nation where 40% are obese and China makes at least 72% of our pharmaceuticals……
It's interesting how these movies are coming out about the destruction of America during these crazy times. First u got "Leave the World Behind." A film about a full-blown Cyber Attack which would be more catastrophic than a couple nukes being dropped. Now, a film about a modern civil war when the country problay hasn't been this divided in a long time. Almost like they're telling us something. I do love these kinds of movies, though.

A24 movies are a hit or miss for me and I’m very interested in this one. The vibes and tones are mad. Going to trigger some unique discussions.

This movie could have been made at any time over the past 7-8 years. But none of the studios made it.
Probably because none of them wanted to touch it with a pole... knowing it would be in really bad taste.

One thing people miss in the trailer, if you watch it with subtitles. In the beginning few moments you see the words "third term President" show up on screen as a News Anchor is reading the headline.
Simply put Nick Offerman's character as the President, something has to have occurred prior to cause or allow a President to exceed the maximum allowed terms of service (2 terms 8 years) and retain power.
Yes currently California and Texas presently are more likely to go to war against each other unless they both share an equal grievance against the current Executive Office.
The Western Forces do seem to comprise mainly of Red Majority States with a few acceptions (Oregon and Washington) Florida is and always will be that wild and crazy cousin that's ever ready to party 😂.
Most of the map places the North East, mid Atlantic and a few southern states as loyal to this current administration.
So by our conventional thinking based upon today's political map, you'd say no way in hell.....but that's today, this could be 2 or 3 elections from now. IYKYK

I’m already a fan of this movie. Simply because the balls it took to make this at a major studio and release in an election year. A24 has had some bangers in the past decade. Huge fan of their horror movies. This cast is pretty stacked. I favor this to be a pretty good movie.

I thought it was a series when I saw the trailer, such a huge premise to develop and wrap up in one movie, it really would be better as a series to explore the multitude of angles.

Your reactions were priceless. What was your question? That one scene with the family and your man - pretty chilling. I don't know A4 - I saw another trailer by them for something else. They are being pretty careful it seems - but assuming they are human, (not entirely a given these days,) they are going to have a perspective they can't hide. So I'm expecting some kind of message.
Speaking about the "Art" as a window on the "Real" though - we don't even have a theory of this "division". As I study it I keep turning up new aspects that deserves exposure - more than an academic paper. Nobody's going to be happy about the truth.
There needs to be a Chinese version in the next few years titled: "Cultural Revolution".
We are so close to this situation and no one talks about it. But you can feel it. There's other factors that affect the situation. The grid and the infrastructure. The board of civil engineers gave the U.S. a D on and A to F scale. Tensions are high. Lights go out. Use your imagination. There's a great documentary called "Against All Enemies." It's an eye opener. And by that I mean your gonna have a panic attack.

Everyone saying Cali Texas wouldn’t happen… who have the biggest ports on the west and gulf/east? And Texas can produce oil, and if the other states that back out end up being New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada then there is a full on trade route. People obviously never played continental RISK
It's unbelievable how people are prisoners of the moment. One election can flip Texas blue. One major scandal can flip Texas red. Trump won't always be the Republican candidate, just in this election.

The TX and CA alliance can exist EXACTLY so the movie is not about Red vs Blue.
The trailer is not clear. They may have tried to make a fictitious scenario where the reasons are NOT blue vs red, so as to the movie not cause even more division than already exists.
Other than Texas and Cali joining forces. Curious to see how they have that play out.
It wasn't clear if they'd joined forces, or had split independently. Either way is a fascinating setup for a film.

It’s out here in the UK April 11th have booked my ticket to watch it in a IMax cinema so looking forward to see this film been waiting for a few months for it
Our country is divided and there is a lot of people heavily armed. Mostly veterans. That’s why I think this could happen in the future. The fact that we fought a 20 year war resulted in thousands of fellow combat veterans with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. The government is armed but limited in the used of heavy weapons. I would say that if it happens, it is going to be bloody and it would destroy the economy. Other countries would more than likely join the fight too.
In 1860, when the 1st American civil war broke out, there were too many people that did not take it seriously. They learned the very hard way that war is not a joke. War is a continuation of politics by other means, and I mean extreme means. Now here we are in the 2020's and history may repeat itself. A modern civil war here in our country, in our own back yards, will be even more ugly and deadly than the first. It will be not something you would or should want to happen in real-life. Let's hope that it remains as "Just a movie".

Northeast California, along with large pockets of Southeast California, is MAGA country. Shasta country is at serious odds with the rest of urban California.

You bring up a good point, "why would they?" I really believe and hope we can all avoid conflict, if we can take a moment to see why people might work together.
You'd be surprised how often two groups put their seemingly insurmountable differences aside to achieve or overcome something else. Humans often have more in common than they realise. And I don't want to invalidate your thoughts on any conflicts between them, but I would like to point out that in THIS universe they both are currently part of the "United" States and regardless of public or political opinion those states see more value in working together than apart.
I hope this comment doesn't come across as some random words on the internet disagreeing with you, but rather as a friendly human trying to provide a perspective I think about a lot as strive for confrontation to be resolved via conversation and collaboration rather than assaults, atrocities and assimilation.

I plan on seeing it. You are right about people often uniting to oppose what they feel is a worse threat than each other. I try to go into every film with an open mind, so perhaps they will have a logical explanation for why those to particular communities are banning together.
According to the trailer the President in the movie is a 3 term President so right there that is telling me they are possibly uniting to take down a dictator President.

Bushwick was very low budget with a poor script and a vague and left-leaning premise, so Bushwick was not much of a film. In fact, it was crap. But at least people are starting to grasp what is coming…
The part when the planes were bombing people reminded me when Biden said that the people with AR15 can't fight planes dropping bombs.
That’s what Stinger missiles are for. The Muj in Afghanistan totally ended Soviet air domination of their country in the 1980’s after the CIA supplied them with these missiles. Two years later the Soviets called it quits and withdrew from Afghanistan.

Its terrifying to think how close to reality this is. Regardless of what side you would choose it would be unnerving. To this day the civil war (1860's) is the bloodiest war with the most american casualties. It would be the same if this was a reality.

Most aren't bloodthirsty like Boogalo and Proud boys make conservatives out to be. Greek City states would be ideal for large Socialist city states. Wall them off and have limited contact and trade.
Only a movie, but if the movie is making its own verdict whatever it is they are underestimating the real verdict if to install a fear in people.

If you guys want a realistic take on what a modern day civil war might look like , read Euel Arden’s novel Down Here in the Warmth. Takes place in NYC. After a race riot a militia comes down to manhattan to try to start a larger event. Yada yada yada… running battles, attempted recruitment of key public figures, media manipulation of the masses. A well written, prescient novel (came out during the blm riots in 2020) . very intense book.
you can be sure China and Russia will be observing the Americans and the worlds acceptance towards this topic and play their hands accordingly... a lot of people will be de-sensitized and at the same time alerted to such scenario.. it'll be an interesting 4 yrs

While this is a really scary yet thought provoking looking movie, there is a funny thing about it that makes it the movie ludicris. Texas and California are polar opposites and a lot of Texans are tired of all the Californians moving in and I wouldn't be surprised if California felt that way about Texans moving there. Anyway, I feel if they changed to Texas and another Red State, then you have a better chance of being believable even if they chose California because of it's density and cash flow.
Anyone that thinks that this could not happen, needs to look around the world and see that it has happened more than you think. How about we all be the American that follows the rule of law and protects our borders to the South and the North.
Having saw the movie last night, it's a good movie. There is no political bias one way or the other just a here is a movie about something that could happen, doesn't tell you how it started, I could really use a prequel honestly now. Being a combat vet having served in Iraq and Afghanistan, it's a pretty legit and accurate movie
I loved it. It really was just interesting in telling a war story, and really nothing else. I did think it was a little unrealistic in how it ended. There's no chance in hell the president would still be there. That's literally what Airforce one is for. We invented a flying fucking castle in the sky for this dude and gave him a "blow up the world" button. There's no fuckin' way it's that easy.

Looks like an interesting movie, but damn! I really truly hope that a 2nd civil war doesn’t happen in America. I know history repeats itself, but I hope it doesn’t come to pass. I’m sure it’s a movie that’ll make you think and question things.

That's a serious question, are you the type that votes for a senile Joe Biden, that transfers tax payers money to Ukraine and wespons companies, while taking bribes from Ukraine and China, ignoring the evidence from his own sons laptop, and you dont mind the FBI censoring information to keep you ignorant as long as your side wins, and you think people can change sex.
Or are you an American that believes in free speech, fair elections and basic reality of biology.
