I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Jacklin a few months ago while visiting the area for a weekend trip. At the time, most businesses in West Yellowstone were barely hanging on in light of the pandemic lockdowns since the Park was not yet open to the public. He was very helpful, replacing my fly line and in sharing tips for the area and I wish him well as business starts to pick up again.
Awesome. I fished in Yellowstone when I was younger. Of course it was in the park, but just a blast. I'd like to get back there again in my lifetime. Never knew whitefish were in the rivers. Beautiful fish. Thank you for the casting advice too.
I have watched The New Fly Fisher, since I was younger. Thoroughly enjoy all the tips and advice from you guys. How come you have yet to film on the beloved Big Hole River, or the Blackfoot River? Montana has so many world class blue ribbon trout rivers and streams. I'm sure it's tough to film them all. Would love to join you guys on the river.
My best friend & I fished all up and down the Madison this past summer & we floated it several times from the rest stop bridge on down. I’d be curious to know what section of the Madison this was on. Is this up or down stream of Three Dollar bridge?? Great show BTW.
TheonethecallQuaid Was there this summer with my sons. It looks a lot like the water above Heiden Lake but here also was a scene with Quake Lake in the background so it is possible it was below. Nevertheless all above 3$ Bridge.
Who grabs and pulls the leader to net a fish? I had a buddy once helping me land one of the biggest steelhead of my life and before he could get his filthy mitts on my line I was already shouting to let it go. Of course he still grabbed it and of course the fish immediately shook his head and the 20 minute fight ended with the dumbest mistake a fisherman can make. Sure in some very very rare cases it’s fine especially if you know the deal and know to hold that line very loosely in case it runs. I was trying to fight my friend rest of the day. Lol.
totally agree..never never ever do u grab the leader..you will immediately break off even a very small fish...i was really surprised a guy with his years of knowledge would ever do that..other than that another nice video
Large mountain whites are plentiful in the Madison river and when caught are kind of a let down because they are nowhere near as pretty and provide nowhere near the fight as trout. I'm surprised they ended the video on highlighting a mountain white catch which is normally not even mentioned by local avid anglers when asked what they caught that day. However, there are some good tips in the video. I liked the casting tips that Bob provided.
When you fish with an older gentleman and he loses your fish netting it: ‘No problem, we will catch him again.’ When your fishing buddy loses your fish: ‘Hey dipstick, I can lose fish all on my own, just fine thanks!’

I like how they didn't keep the trout out of water too long. That's a common mistake I see. Good job.
We have those whitefish in the Connecticut River as well. They're def scrappy on a fly rod.

There’s some BS in this video . The first rainbow and brown are NOT 20 inch fish; they are about 17 inches each. Compare the hands to the fish.
Last time i caught a 20" fish it was way fatter than those were. Still, very nice fish.
