I feel like the thing that annoys most people is the situation surrounding Rolex watches (both at ADs and secondary market). As products their watches aren’t bad at all and they’re quite sturdy, but having to “convince” your AD that you’re worthy of a Rolex is just wrong and drives people towards grey market and potentially fake watches. The sad thing is that other brands, notably AP and Richard Mille, are starting to use their “hot models” as bargaining chips to sell you a Code 11.59, etc.
They had a good example. Rolex used to do the same with their sports models. Buy a Day-Date at full retail and they will “allow” you to purchase a sports watch.

I liked your thoughtful point about having respect and sensitivity when you travel to other countries. Even if people aren't out to rob you, wearing conspicuous wealth on one's wrist in a place where people are just struggling to survive is in poor tasted. Visiting South Africa a few years ago, i purchased a GShock specifically to wear for that trip, for that reason.
Thanks for another enjoyable review. I have become a real Omega fan over the last few years. Aside from design, movement and quality, the boutique treats me nicely and watches are available, sometimes after a wait for special editions. I prefer the gold dial version with black sub dials as it’s more legible and more striking. My favourite is the 50th anniversary with its red bezel and special caseback details. I agree about the risk of being robbed. Rolex has lost its way. It was an aspirational luxury item once. To many it remains so. But it’s become aped and faked and on the arms of people who inspire no one. The grey market hyped prices and empty ADs is a complete turn off.
I own both these watches. Push the pushers and you can see the Daytona is a better movement. The counter seconds hand doesn't jump when you click it. The daytona also has a better power reserve.
1. For a (gentle)man's watch: yellow gold, never rose or red 2. For a mass produced full gold watch, a solid case back is always preferable 3. @followyourpassion - 1. A gentleman makes his own choice as he has a mind of his own. 2. For a mass produced full gold watch, a solid case back is always preferable - yes, if you don’t want to see the movement you paid all that money for (what is the point??). If it has a nice movement with sone decoration then show it off, it adds a dimension of enjoyment to the piece which Rolex does not offer. 3. Rolex AD availability is becoming significantly better (in 07/2022 and should not be part of the argument anyway). We are talking about perhaps buying one of these aren’t we? @@louisbrandt5386 1. + 2. touché. Nicely put. 2. small addition. Aesthetically and in terms of build quality, the new Speedmaster Moonwatch definitely can stand its own against the Daytona. But as an owner of a new 3861 Speedy I must admit: in terms of wearing comfort it just falls behind any Rolex by a huge margin. It's just a fact and also concerns other Omega Models. As nice as the Bracelet of the new 3861 is, its just not that comfortable it could be, if they made the inside of the bracelet more ergonomic.
if the omega had the Cal 321 movement they put in the Ed White, with the column wheel chronograph, it would indeed be objectively better.. The Rolex has a superior movement.
My opinion the gold from ROLEX seems brighter and grand. But it’s for the outlook only. The movement and history on omega never doubted.what do you guys think
You should also add that the amount of replica Rolex watches on the market and private ownership makes it far less attractive to own one. In fact this is the main reasons why I’m so reluctant to buy one even from an AD
But the Rolex won’t tank in value, say the idiots who buy watches as investments. Enjoy paying twice the price for Rolex watch on the gray market. Once supply meets demand(which will happen after Covid) you’ll lose money.
Well in this case Speedmasters are keeping good value, and I predict the vintage 321's will be as good investments as any Rolex. Not many were made, and prices are still not too insane, but they might be in the future...
my goodness. the OMEGA is super hot and GORGEOUS. i'll take that any day. i have never cared for the Daytona. ( that last part when you mentioned a guy was killed, then to find out it was a fake Rolex. it crushed me. very sad ).. Thank you great review.
I know it is popular to hate on Rolex, but being honest almost everything about the Rolex is superior to the Omega ( I own a 3861 but ss sapphire sandwich ) Omega bracelet not as structurally integral + no quick adjustment. The links are also rounded so the watch doesn’t freely slide on your wrist like the Rolex’s flat inner links. The dimensions - The Daytona is over 1mm thiner despite being automatic and with a column wheel and a vertical clutch to boot. Actuating the Chronograph is night and day with the Daytona Water resistance - The omega has half the water resistance at just 50M and the brand themselves don’t even recommend bringing the watch for surface swimming. Accuracy - The 3861 ( at least mine) , runs at about + 5 compared to most Rolex’s now staying at +-2 The bezel - There is no reason to have an aluminum bezel on any speedmaster besides maybe the hesalite for full originality. Residual value - I don’t even need to go there. The Omega is wonderful and I wish it was better than Rolex, but for now it sure as hell isn’t Update: The 3861 speedmasters now all have quick adjustment.
I agree I think there are 2 things which bothers me as a watch collector, if Omega makes their speedmaster have 5 days power reserve and over 10 bar water resistance it would outsell the Daytona in a flash.
@GreaterBayArea Hero - Unfortunately, I don’t believe the Omegas would be more desirable than Rolex with extra features. Omega already makes better watches than Rolex for the most part imo so it has little to do with that for a lot of buyers. It is surely more about ignorance and “image” for the overwhelming majority of Rolex buyers. Most people in the market for a luxury watch at that price point know little if anything about watches and in many cases aren’t interested to know. All they want is to buy a watch to flex, they have heard about Rolex (who hasn’t?), wrongly think it is the best and then buy the things like kids in a sweet shop. With so much skin in the game or having saved all those pennies to buy a watch they cannot really afford they then spend time on the internet trying to validate their ignorant decisions. Want a beautiful watch with an almost unmatchable history/pedigree get an Omega, want an “image” (for better or worse) get a Rolex.
I think a good example of people blithely following Rolex and their motivational cognition in relation thereto is the GS spring drive. Tell me with a straight face that those would not be sold out now if they had Rolex on the dial and would not be hailed as the greatest development in watchmaking period?? Fanboys of the brand get excited over a 1mm case increment or a bezel colour change which is quite sad really, particularly when these same people dismiss or deride superior achievements/offerings from alternative brands with more impressive history and greater historical contributions in the field..
Omega is available because no one is buying them new. Retailers in Europe are advertising 20% off all Omegas in stock. This gold speedmaster retails for 42k new and used 25k full set. If you want any Omega buy it used, you’ll be thankful you did. The only Omega’s that retain any value are limited editions or low production like 321, silver snoopy. Omega is marketing these through scarcity to keep demand high. Whereas Rolex demand is high and the watches are scarce due to demand. I love both brands and own both. This is just the truth of the matter.
i really don't like either two. Designwise the daytona has some issues which i can't overlook. The speedmaster is nice, I think the dial needs more contrast to match with gold. Also for me there is only one way to go with gold and thats polished. Gold is for showing not for hiding it under a brushed finished.
Just wondering in spite of everything you said, which I think is sensible, most people would go after Rolex even for triple the amount. If omega is better than Rolex, then maybe there are doing something wrong. Just saying..
Yeah I guess so, great video though. In another issue, I know JLc Is a top watchmaker, but what do you think of It as a brand, I am planning to buy a reverso
@@alexsalvador3370 Buy whatever you like best! JLC is a nice manufacture and our manufacture visits to them always have been impressive. It is just a matter of style. If I'd be in the market for a rectangular watch I'd go 100% Reverso.
Speedmaster Sedna is awesome. Daytona movement is ok, but it is not comparable to 3861. RJ review vintage seamaster chronograph cal 321 or article in fratello.

@@robert-janbroer8936 good to know not the usual gold Omega scenario. I do love it and that is a plus. Not in this to make money but don’t like taking huge loses if I ever want to sell.
145.012-67 on my wrist so obviously I go for that Sedna Speed, even if it's not a 321 - still a mighty steel 321 vintage is the ultimate. Daytona is too luxury, quite nice on a female wrist at a party.
OK, so to summarise... 1. Design is arguably better (yet people want to buy the Daytona in MUCH larger numbers, so let's just say it's ....subjective). 2. Availability: Daytona MUCH more popular 3. Price: Daytona MUCH more valuable 4. Movement: Horses for courses, but let's be honest, Rolex also make robust workhorses. 5. Danger: Daytona MUCH more recognized (that's part of the appeal - let's not lie), and more VALUABLE. I'll add one more... 6. Investment: I would be much more comfortable joining a waitlist for the Daytona, knowing that when it is allocated ...my money is SAFE. Too impatient? Buy the Daytona on secondary market while you wait for your allocation - then sell the first, and you will likely get all your money back. Objectively, the Sedna is the Daytona's bitch. On a more serious note, you forgot to address the size. The Daytona is SMALL if you have a 7+inch wrist. In fact, it's become something of a unisex watch. Too small for me, with my 8 inch wrist.
@@robert-janbroer8936 Dear God! I don't prefer a "Bigger Watch" - I have an EIGHT INCH WRIST. That's 20 CENTIMETERS . That's twice you have replied without having absorbed anything I've said beyond what you wanted to see. 40mm is CLEARLY fine for lots of people with more average sized wrists (and many girls!) - and it's well known that the Daytona wears quite small for it's size. This is why it is probably the most wanted watch in the world (sorry Omega). But NOT for a big guy like me. Therefore the Sedna would be a better fit for me, but I don't fancy either of them. I do like the Speedmaster, but not a gold one. Luckily, I am not desperate to get any watch, as I have my two favorites already. Polar Rolex Explorer II for daily wear, and AP 15500 (blue!) for special days. I have other nice watches, but these are the two I would save from a burning house ...before running back to try and save my kids. In short, I don't really care for either of these watches, so I am capable of being objective in my comments. Can you say the same thing? Looking at your channel contents, I would say that you are very biased.
@@jackominty3633 I read your message well, but I am only saying 40mm would not trouble me if I had 20 centimeter wrists (I have 19cm wrists and I don’t mind wearing my 36mm Day-Date and Datejust). Your comment about me being biased is not very relevant, especially not for you. Again, you should just buy and wear what you like, that’s all I am saying. No need to get annoyed (over nothing). I have and have had other watches than Speedmasters (including a number of Rolex and AP RO watches), I just happen to collect Speedmasters, it doesn’t mean I am not interested or do not own other watches 🤷🏻♂️ Anyway, thanks for your comment, and enjoy your nice watch collection.
Found this comment really insightful. I prefer Omega over Rolex personally. That said, Mechanical watches aren't for everyone. Automatic is alot more practical for everyday use.
I own Sedna Gold Moonwatch and it is an amazing watch, but you are so biased and so wrong about Rolex. I love Omega and I don't have to hate on Rolex, I love them both. Daytona has its perks, especially the caliber 4130, which is the best automatic chronograph in the world. The reason why Rolex is not available is because the demand for Rolex is probably 20 times higher than for Omega. Today even platinum Day-Dates are selling for premium and just 2 years ago pre-owned platinum Day-Dates were selling for less than of half retail. Omega is available because the demands is not there, which I think is a good thing, because I just walked into the boutique and bought my new Speedy Sedna gold and I even got a very decent discount. Jaquet Droz is also available in watch stores, it means only one thing, no demand... Now as the owner of Sedna gold Moonwatch, I love the watch, but I don't understand Omega. Why didn't they make a simple 1-2mm quick adjustment on the bracelet? Why is the bezel not from ceramic like on the Moonshine anniversary piece? Why is the watch delivered without a wallet for the warranty cards? All these things are peanuts in costs, but completely terrible for the premium buying experience. Omega unfortunately has a terrible network of ADs, it is so bad it's not even worth mentioning....I think Omega can really become a real competition to Rolex, but they need to stop employing people who lick their balls and get people who give them sold and hard critiques so they can improve. Your bias review didn't do any favour to Omega. BTW, Rose Gold Daytona 116505 looks best with baguettes dial and now with the new meteorite dial and I think very soon Rolex will bring ceramic bezel to the remaining Daytona line-up (116505, 508, 509 and 523)... The fact that sundials are not aligned is a tiny tiny issue, Patek has the same "issue" with much higher complications like 5270, but this is due to the design of the caliber and the size of the dial. If Rolex would move up Daytona to 41mm those subdials would be be aligned (maybe that's what will happen), but in 2025 for the 60 anniversary.
I find a comparison between these two models ridiculous. They represent something completely different. But if you've already started, here's my antithesis. What speaks against the Speedmaster: consistent model policy of the Daytona. The more attractive movement, 44 jewels against 27 jewels. Flatter design. Better workmanship. Higher value retention. No matter where in the world, in an emergency can be sold faster without major losses. No shareholders in the background diluting the brand. cooler image. Nevertheless, I really like the Speedmaster and I will buy the new model soon. Cheers
A better workmanship of what? Not sure I agree. Also, more jewels doesn’t equal a better movement. It can also be a construction issue, that it simply requires more jewels. To each his or her own. Resale retention is only important if you can’t afford such a watch ;-)
I went into an omega boutique to buy or at least put a deposit on a Sedna gold speedmaster. The salesperson said I could only get on the list it if I spent $100k at the boutique. I’m good.
Availability doesn't make it a better watch, more people love the Daytona, the proportions and wear WR area better in every way. Price of the Omega being low also taking 40 percent hit soon as you wear it, not a pro either. Also people wear Fake Rolex, who cares I don't buy my Rolex watches to care who is looking at my wrist or what on other peoples wrist.
I am sorry, guys, but these reasons are fake reasons. You cannot tell me that you are going to pay the same amount or more for a gold speedmaster. You have both in your hands and you must admit that the sheer physical dominance and presence of the Daytona and Rolex version of rosegold trumps the Omega by far.
@@FratelloMagazine RJ, Karina, the 40mm size and 12mm or so height of the Daytona are timeless measurements for a dress(ier) watch in full gold. I bet you that the Daytona would even fit Karina while the Speedmaster would simply be too big. With these timeless measurements plus an Oysterbracelet that is neither too sporty nor too dressy Rolex is able to create a sportier stainless steel version of the Daytona as well as dressier watch versions in white, yellow and everose gold. On top of that you get a variety of dial versions on the full gold Daytonas that caters to every possible taste a watch collector and wearer may have when looking for a dressier watch in precious metals. What do you get from Omega ? 1 full gold version (I am ignoring the Canopa gold version because it is even 10k more expensive) with the same basic setup as the stainless steel Speedmaster but a significantly less eligible dial. It is basically a beefed up sports watch at too big dimensions trying to be dressier by using precious metal. It just doesn't work and fit together. Regardless how great, impressive and good these gold watches are, the steel 321 versions Speedies from the 60's TRUMP everything.
Please do more of a comparison video of the Apollo Moonshine Speedmaster to the Sedna Speedmaster. I’d like to see more images of of the two compared to each other.
Seconded.
The Everose Daytona for me. With Cerachrom bezel on Oysterflex.
YUCK. rubber on Rolex? You have no taste.
I need to remove you from friends on facebook and instagram ;) obviously it'a a joke
I own both these watches. Push the pushers and you can see the Daytona is a better movement. The counter seconds hand doesn't jump when you click it. The daytona also has a better power reserve.
1. For a (gentle)man's watch: yellow gold, never rose or red
2. For a mass produced full gold watch, a solid case back is always preferable
3. Rolex AD availability is becoming significantly better (in 07/2022 and should not be part of the argument anyway)
4. Omega has increased MSRP of their full gold Speedmasters to 40k €. A Daytona is actually "cheaper" with 35k
5. Nevertheless, my choice was the Speedmaster 57 in yellow gold
@followyourpassion -
Availability is very relevant - walk into an AD and try and buy a Daytona without silly demeaning games, if you want one.
4. Omega has increased MSRP of their full gold Speedmasters to 40k €. A Daytona is actually "cheaper" with 35k Irrelevant as Rolexes normally trade above retail these days due to flippers and ignorant casuals.
5. Nevertheless, my choice was the Speedmaster 57 in yellow gold - great choice, enjoy in good health.

1. + 2. touché. Nicely put.
2. small addition. With mass produced pm watches (such as Omega or Rolex), you are really paying for the gold content ( around 200gr gold 750), not the movement. Please check the brutto list price to production cost ratio. Different story with Lange or PP, even JLC, where I like to see a movement.
3. Just now went into an AD and bought a SD43, no fuss: ua-cam.com/video/lURYInWpT3k/v-deo.html
Believe me, when I say, ADs always have and had professional models in the back.
4. My point is, that steel Omegas have a considerably lower MSRP than their Rolex counterparts (see video mentioned under 3.), while the tt or pm ones do not. Also, pm Rolexes in general won't be trading over MSRP much longer. Check grey dealer buying prices.
5. the YG Speedmaster 57 has a RG rotor, that shows they are cutting costs. Same with YG Aqua Terras, except for the Goldfinger watch, which truely is an exclusive piece. Typical for mass produced premium watches, not for luxury. Still like it, though 🙂
And for understanding the Rolex market, check this out: ua-cam.com/video/OK8JMnc1BHM/v-deo.html
LOL -“solid case back on a gold watch” - A Lange, JLC, Patek, VC all disagree.
@@kurtklimisch7498 Well, I said for a mass produced gold watch aka Rolex, Omega and the likes, it is preferable. I wouldn't call Lange mass produced.
So bias toward Omega. Love it!
Same!
If I had the opportunity I'd go for white gold Speedy.
Would be my pick too, so under the radar 👌
if the omega had the Cal 321 movement they put in the Ed White, with the column wheel chronograph, it would indeed be objectively better.. The Rolex has a superior movement.
My opinion the gold from ROLEX seems brighter and grand. But it’s for the outlook only. The movement and history on omega never doubted.what do you guys think
The omega is rose gold. The rolex is not.
Great honest review thanks guys
please review the aqua terra small seconds in gold & rubber strap
please review the new speedmaster in moonshine + rubber strap
Of course we will.

Why does the Daytona have cosmograph on the dial ? What's the story behind that
The full gold models don't have a Ceramic bezel yet
Support Omega
Sorry but that Daytona and others look so much fancier and classy on women. Omega looks more of a mens watch
which is heavier?
You should also add that the amount of replica Rolex watches on the market and private ownership makes it far less attractive to own one. In fact this is the main reasons why I’m so reluctant to buy one even from an AD
To me a gold Dayton has always looked like a cheap gold Nikon watch
2:00 which "cheap quartz chronograph movements" have subdial placements like that i wonder?
A bit of exxageration of course, but they often have this weird placement of subdials and not aligned with the center pinion.
Clearly the Speedy makes the difference... there is no doubt...
I love OMEGA better you just simply get more over rolex.
I will have that speedmaster.
Yes, yes, yes and yes!!!!
It’s also really great to see Karina in the fratello content now as well!
Better yes but will it hold its value , as you step out the Ad half of your value is gone
The Chrono chime looks even better than this speedy and the most luxurious looking one ever
RJ: If it's really better, you only need one reason :).
What’s the fun in that?
I know it is popular to hate on Rolex, but being honest almost everything about the Rolex is superior to the Omega ( I own a 3861 but ss sapphire sandwich )
Omega bracelet not as structurally integral + no quick adjustment. The links are also rounded so the watch doesn’t freely slide on your wrist like the Rolex’s flat inner links.
The dimensions - The Daytona is over 1mm thiner despite being automatic and with a column wheel and a vertical clutch to boot. Actuating the Chronograph is night and day with the Daytona
Water resistance - The omega has half the water resistance at just 50M and the brand themselves don’t even recommend bringing the watch for surface swimming.
Accuracy - The 3861 ( at least mine) , runs at about + 5 compared to most Rolex’s now staying at +-2
The bezel - There is no reason to have an aluminum bezel on any speedmaster besides maybe the hesalite for full originality.
Residual value - I don’t even need to go there.
The Omega is wonderful and I wish it was better than Rolex, but for now it sure as hell isn’t
Update: The 3861 speedmasters now all have quick adjustment.
The 1970s are over... who still wears a Gold wristwatch ? Then again... de gustibus non est disputandum
Gold watches non olet.
do you think moonshine speedmaster will maintain its value well? or even increase , so far seems droping ,
Hmmm, mine only increased in value since I bought it.
I think those are two completely different watches. In general this Omega vs. Rolex game is rather dull.
This is just the truth of the matter.
great...now those that have the Daytonas have been robbed because you haven't told them at the beginning of the video ;)
i really don't like either two. Designwise the daytona has some issues which i can't overlook. The speedmaster is nice, I think the dial needs more contrast to match with gold. Also for me there is only one way to go with gold and thats polished. Gold is for showing not for hiding it under a brushed finished.
Daytona wears better. Especially on smaller wrists.
Just wondering in spite of everything you said, which I think is sensible, most people would go after Rolex even for triple the amount. If omega is better than Rolex, then maybe there are doing something wrong. Just saying..
Perhaps people buy into a brand name ;-)
Speedy for me please.
Issue I have is spending 30K on a gold Omega and if you ever want to sell be lucky to get half your money back.
You might want to revise that statement. The Moonshine model from 2019 is currently fetching over 40K (some are towards 55K) while the retail price was €32K.
2. Availability: Daytona MUCH more popular
3. Price: Daytona MUCH more valuable
There’s a lot of assumptions in your summary, but if it works for you, I’d say get the Daytona! It sounds like it’s the watch you need.
@@robert-janbroer8936 Yeah, well you didn't read to the end. It's too small.
@@jackominty3633 I don’t necessarily agree it is too small. But if you prefer a bigger watch, the Daytona is not for you then.
For me the Daytona mey be classic but fir me the look is played out. Taking the Speedie all day long.
Sedna Gold over Daytona
I think the watch that went to the moon or the watch people aspire to . I will let you decide 😀
The one thing is the daytona is automatic which for me is important personally
Found this comment really insightful. I prefer Omega over Rolex personally. That said, Mechanical watches aren't for everyone. Automatic is alot more practical for everyday use.
@@JonathanMartinez-gs7prThe only thing is it abstracts the view of the movement, which doesn't matter for Daytona as it's solid case back.
Omega putting the Presi Homage bracelet on their watches and copying every combo of color's is hilarious.
Rolex is better under water, in case youmwant to dive into a swimming pool without leaving it off your wrist
Well said
@D K why do you say the 4130 is the best auto chronograph in the world - is that what the salesman told you?
Speedmaster forever
Omega v. Rolex. The watch that landed on the moon, versus the watch that blew up failing to get there.....
But then blew up on Instagram 50 years later ;)
Omega‘s history is so fantastic and the Speedmaster looks so great
Agree
If I had the cash, I’d want both 😂
FUN FACT- Most Omega owners always compare to Rolex, most Rolex owners don't care about your wrist watch.
And often not even about their own 😂
I love the Speedmaster but the bracelet is horrible to me.
Omega beats Rolex at everything except astetics and value retention
I’m good.
She’s charming
Omega's design is too busy visually for me....
What watch is the pretty young lady wearing on her wrist? I'm really curious lol
A Speedmaster 38mm
Better pick maybe, but it does not make you feel on top of the world.
Daytona does this for much more people, my guess
Daytona is for people who care about status and Omega for people who care about watches and history
You would say that. But no! Haha

Word!
It isn’t Sedna gold…just sayin
Omega
Availability doesn't make it a better watch, more people love the Daytona, the proportions and wear WR area better in every way. Price of the Omega being low also taking 40 percent hit soon as you wear it, not a pro either. Also people wear Fake Rolex, who cares I don't buy my Rolex watches to care who is looking at my wrist or what on other peoples wrist.
The Moonshine Speedmaster blows them both out of the water , imo
Why nobody wants an Omega and everybody wants a Rolex😅
Trolling is a great way to waste your time 😂
Honestly the Daytona looks so much better
Is it because Fratello stock them? 🤣
We don't sell Omega watches.
Hmmm, no it doesn't. And we own a few gold Speedmasters here.
And I simply cannot believe that a watch fan that has 40k Euro to spend would prefer a full gold Speedmaster over a Daytona. No way (of course, there are exceptions but I am sure they are very rare).
@@djjr9803 Well, you should just buy what YOU like best! If that’s the gold Daytona, do it! You don’t have to convince us otherwise :) We bought the gold Speedmaster instead, simply because we love it more.
Rolex is definitely better than omega in terms of their movements. Just look at the thickness of the watches and you’ll know which is better.
Oh good point, so thinner movements are "better"?
You guys need to chill, it’s not even 50k
Omega really wished that their watches were unavailable as well,,,, but the fact is just that nobody pays retail for an omega, most of them here in Hong Kong are going for 20-30% discount in the grey market.....
