  • In 1901, 11-year-old Milton Gardner moved from the US to Fujian Province, China with his missionary parents. He spent a happy and unforgettable childhood there, but was never able to revisit his beloved “Kuliang.” On his deathbed, he uttered the words “Kuliang, Kuliang.” Gardner’s wife, Elizabeth, traveled to China, hoping to find the place her husband adored, but to no avail - until Xi Jinping heard the story in 1992.

    PRC did this for me too. I came to China for first time, and based on scant information, the Returned Overseas Chinese Association, not only found my ancestor's former house in my ancestral hometown, but they accompanied me there. I was then offered an opportunity to meet the town elders.

    My parents were from an island off the coast of Fujian... somewhere off the coast... they miss the place so so much..
    they left the place because of WWII chaos .... it must have the last choice and painful for them to leave their beloved home island and travel to Nanyang..

      I may be butchering the english/pinying name, but could it have been called gulanyi? Does that sound familiar? Reply if you think so, my parents are from there!

      @@tomlin6554 Gulangyu, Xiamen city. I think my guess is right. since your family name is lin,林. many Lin people there, and many people from that area move to Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine etc during WW2. And I feel sorry for your parents that they didn't stay that place, cause the house price there is extremely high now. If they owned some lands there, they'd be millionaires now🤣🤣🤣

    Why are some people spiteful and rude in their comments. If you have nothing good to say about people then keep quite instead of displaying your upbringing in public. The general public does not have contempt for you but your parents who raised you up to be who you are- a scumbag.

    • @CarCrash-TWU
      @CarCrash-TWU 6 років тому

      François Cauneau George soros is evil and pushes communism himself so your statement isn't even internally consistent but fuck yeah I'm anti-communist no idiology has killed more people in a hopeless attempt at an unreachable utopia

    • @fCauneau
      @fCauneau 6 років тому +3

      You mean no ideology has killed more than greed, since more than 4000 years. And communism fights greed. Capitalism is based on greed so I won't argue anymore because nobody never counts each time capitalism kills. It surely is beyond billions of people at this moment.

    • @CarCrash-TWU
      @CarCrash-TWU 6 років тому

      François Cauneau Stalin, Mao, pol pot, the North Korean kim's, castro, etc. How many skulls must we pile up in pursuit of utopia all in the name of communism not to mention that equality of outcome robs us of ambition. Do u honestly believe that you would have UA-cam without capitalism? I recommend reading the gulag archipelago if u want a taste of what that looks like in practice

    • @fCauneau
      @fCauneau 6 років тому +5

      You don't have to recommend anything : Only in Vietnam in name of anticommunism US army killed more civilians than even you could 'credit' Polpot (and I've been there too). This is an example of greed never counting its own skulls.
      Stop here guy : I am old, and I've seen almost all of the World. You can't cheat me and got nothin new for me I haven't already listened all of my life...
