Bamboo Duck Noodle Soup is My New Phở Alternative | Bún Măng Vịt

  • In this food travel vlog, I try bamboo duck noodle soup (bún măng vịt) for the first time. I eat this unique, traditional Vietnamese noodle soup at a street food vendor in Cô Giang Ward, District 1, Saigon. This noodle soup is a welcome alternative to the usual phở or bún bò huế meal.
    The exact location is the corner of Cô Bắc Street and Đề Thám Street, District 1, HCMC.
    The soup is made with a slightly sour broth and filled with fresh rice noodles, tender duck meat, and surprisingly soft pieces of bamboo.
    I eat this delicious Vietnamese street food lunch with the company of some friendly local Vietnamese on their lunch break. I also give you my signature Dank Rank Food Review.
    For any foodies feeling a little bit adventurous and craving a different noodle soup than phở or bún bò huế, I recommend trying out some bun mang vit!
    Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed this food travel vlog.

      I appreciate that...sometimes I feel insecure about it too. My last year of high school I did musical theater (I liked a girl in the theater class). Anyways, I ended up being decent at it and getting some lead roles in performances that drew over a thousand audience members. I flipped a switch mentally to deal with the nervousness of performing. I decided that the majority of people would be really nervous to perform too, and even if I made some mistakes, discerning individuals would understand and forgive those mistakes.
      I've always felt similarly about speaking Spanish and Vietnamese. Most people would have a level of fear about speaking in a non-native language that they don't know fluently. People with a good head on their shoulders will appreciate the effort. People who ridicule your mistakes or try to shame your efforts are quite obviously dealing with personal issues of their own.

      @@BigTimeBentley yeah I am sure once I start practicing more with locals I’ll get over my own insecurities. I have practiced mostly with my wife’s family and they just love that I try. I never thought I would do karaoke but they finally got me to try and I love it 😂 Thank you for your words of motivation. Next January when we’re back in Vietnam I will definitely try to start speaking Vietnamese more.

      Good tips...I generally go into the filming process with basically no planning whatsoever, unless its an informative video like "my top ten reasons you should move to vietnam". Maybe I should plan out the food videos a little bit in terms of researching the food item...something to consider. I do like the spontaneous aspect of just finding something I haven't tried and getting a first reaction, which was what this video was

      @BigTimeBentley  10 місяців тому +2

      He has that on a paper menu inside the shop as well "cat toc: 50k". He tried to say the "adult price" is 70k...it just felt a little bit shady that he would write the price of a haircut in multiple places and then try to claim that's the child's price, even though there's nothing to indicate that on anything he has written. Beyond that, the price at several nicer salons (fully indoor, with A/C) less than 200m from this place is 70k, 60k, 50k etc...idk something told me he wasn't being genuine.

      My favorite duck noodle soup. I usually add a little mam to^m to enhance the broth but that's just me though. About the haircut, I have to agree with @@BigTimeBentley the haircut should be 50k but the barber tried to charge you extra cuz you're a foreigner; it's not because the sign is old. The bun mang vit should be 30k plus 3k for your tra` da' (the man at the counter told the lady 3k for tra` da') not sure why she told you your total was 40k, you didn't ask for extra meat or anything else. I dont like it when people are not being honest so next time just ask them to tell you the price first before siting down. also, the broth is not sour, the pickled onion made it sour. People dont add it to the soup, you eat it separately with the duck meat and nuoc mam. Still enjoy your video; welcome back.

      Yeah, it depends on the dish as to whether the bamboo will have a strong taste/aroma or not. I believe there is a fermented bamboo or dried bamboo that has a really strong smell/flavor that I also don't like. I prefer the fresh bamboo, but it has to be properly cooked and rinsed to taste good. I love it in the Laotian dish called khao poon. But it's great when braised with thit kho, too.
