I got this game a long time ago and I feel like getting back into it. When I first got the game, everyone said to avoid True Kin when you start out because it's way more complicated and harder. After about 15 hours of play time, I decided to try True Kin and I got WAY further and it was much easier. Just thought I'd share that, I found it amusing.
Thanks for the guide dude, bought the game yesterday and after playing for an hour, saw your guide and game became much more easy to understand and learn.
@@ulfricstormcloak3657 .. No, that's not how that works. You don't suddenly get depth if you have a football-field worth of assembly instructions for a piece of furniture. That's just inherent bad design.
@@Coecoo I don't think the game really deserves to be called complex; it's just a roguelike with - arguably - bad UI (or at least a very unintuitive one). It's very similar to Tangledeep, Dungeonmanns and other game of the genre.
@@MCSorry Sorry, but no. It is complex: i.imgur.com/msmJ2pa.png If you want to change my mind, try making a few casual gamers (or non gamers) play it first.
Thank you so much for the guide. I damn near quit because I had no idea what I was doing, but now I feel confident enough to really dig deep into the game
I downloaded the game, and will 100% check it out soon. Thanks for the nicely presented and clearly explained beginner guide, it looks a bit confusing but also really cool! I grew up with a Spectrum 48k home computer and this graphic style gives me nostalgic vibes to my early days as a gamer.
The best part is for years I’ve had this game and only now, maybe an hour and a half ago decided to actually play it. Knowing literally 0 of the game except for the fact I recall years ago starting and not understanding nor willing to understand anything, I decided to go in as just a basic option (mutated human because I thought the other was more complex based on amount of information) and learned basic controls as well as survived Red Rock. May have had to do with the fact I had a strength physical mutation on top of health regeneration, and night vision. Throw in a mental force field to help separate things from be and I barely made it. :) should have watched this guide first!
Great video. I was looking for a good intro straight to the point video and I found it. Good explanations. Thank you. I usually play CDDA and like it for its realism, but sometimes I take a hiatus from it and need something similarly deep. Let's see this one.
I'm not a beginner but I'm looking for a vid to show my friend whos just starting. One thing I'd change tho, mutated humans are definitely easier than true kin. They can start with frankly OP setups that will allow them to understand the mechanics of the game while not getting bodied (carapace + horns trivializes early game).
great guide! Really helped me get the basics a little bit faster. My first run I managed to make it pretty far (until I contracted three different fungal infections anyway) At 1:14:30 you actually got hit with a salve injector by the trapjaw or some other enemy there. It reacted poorly with the shulk injector and gave you temporary blindness. I wonder if enemies can tell you are using an injector and do that on purpose to get an adverse reaction out of you.
I started getting into this thanks to SsethTzeentach but there is one thing that confused me. The game that Seth shows off looks a lot different compared to this one. In Seth's video we can see the main menu as well as character selection look more advanced at 2:46 of his video. I was wonderin why that is? Great video btw!
Once you know the basics you have more freedom and fun than any AAA game i've played in the last 10 years. My buddy said ""Most games sacrifice mechanics and fun for graphics, CoQ sacrifices graphics for mechanics and fun."''
You bumble too much. You don't have to be great at improvisation just because someone else is. Prepare the text beforehand and your videos will get so much better without you stalling and repeating the same thing three times differently while thinking what else can be said.

It seems like true kin have a way better early game but later on mutations become the meta
Quarantine is great: started playing games that Sseth reccommends (which tends to have steep learning curves), SS13 and now Caves of Qud. Let's go!!

"This guide is a basic guide"
Almost an hour and a half long
A testament to how good it actually is if you ask me
Unfortunately, no. Game design is about minimum complexity and maximum depth and this game is the reverse.
@@Coecoo but depth can originate from complexity. And in this game it does

This has to be the first adventure game in existence where I am happy to see bats. Thanks for the guide, definetly helped me get into the game.
Great guide I finally learned to play with my coq
Thank you for all the hard work you've put into making this guide! Absolute legend.
Thanks :)
Great guide, I just started playing and this really helped
Thanks :)
Pro tip : watch series on flixzone. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Arthur Wesley yup, been watching on flixzone for years myself =)

That's where I'm at rn, I mostly play cdda but I'm looking to play through some other roguelikes in my backlog, with this at the top of the list
ahh yes realism the game where you can play as a mutant furry with bionics fighting zombies and mushroom alien creatures

That would be really cool!
i have treid to google so many thing about playing and could not this was great thank you so much
Timestamps would be nice
I really need this guide

I think its just a new update to the UI
Best watched at 1.75x....
the arrow on weapon is not quickness value, its armor penetration value
Yeah your right, my mistake I always assumed it was quickness.
Good stuff. I slept listening to this!
Nice video but the sound is too low. I can't hear it unless I turn my speakers on max.
Thanks a lot! Very helpful
I always read it as Caves Of Could, hmm.
Thanks man, very helpful ;)
Is this a hud mod or am I not seeing the option to change it to this?
Go to game options and enable additional overlay user interfave elements
How do I get the UI to look like yours?
It should be under options enable new ui

I think I'll stick to Rogue Legacy

I watched the entire thing and nothing felt wasted. Sprinkling tidbits of information is never wrong.
