It's really a game by game basis. Some definitely don't work that way. But yeah, for a lot of them it seems easy now has all the difficulty of a visual novel.

Nah, I hear you and I agree actually. It's one of those things that something that's actually a decent idea just doesn't feel as good in execution. They become frustrations because that's the point, but it's hard not to feel that frustration genuinely and genuine frustration is rarely a good thing.
I think there's always an alternative to communicate the same idea in a way that's more... palatable. Like, what if the artificial, poppy tracks became "warped" over time? Like, say, a pop rock song decaying, track by track, to a garage, lofi, chop-amd-screw, or industrial track? Sorta like Grant Kirkhope but depressing
I can see that happening, the closest thing that your description comes to is the "thorn" remixes that appear later in the game. but yeah, the background music in dungeons becomes a problem if you stay in it for too long, Persona 3 ended up kindof remedying it later in the game by allowing you to play different music tracks when the default started to wear out its welcome.
Played it on the vita, and the though it was ok it wasn't one of my favorite titles on the platform. I kinda view it as a basic JRPG. Not good, but not bad either. Solid review BTW.
You said you can pick a male or female protagonist. Does that mean the drawn anime cutscene is different depending on who you pick? That’s a lot of effort.
TPK Kaze I meant like the opening cutscene shown in the video that shows the protagonist as a male. That scene is completely redrawn for male and female?

Man...great review first of all, I was intrigued at the very least about this game, the visuals in the marketing got my attention, I was interested but not fully convinced yet. Well your review doesn't help the game that much lol, but it delivered what I wanted. Real information about the game, I also know you like JRPGs so makes this hurt even a little more. Huh? I'm not worried about games being longer than that, but they need to have a decent progression both within the narrative and gameplay to support that length and remain interesting, and this game just doesn't really. I play mostly jrpgs. I'm used to 60-100 hours.
I am because usually that gameplay is padded with repetitive torture you have to slog through to get to the story. Heaven forbid the whole game be rewarding and fun the entire way through.
D I dunno if a game has 25-30 house of quality content that has progress in gameplay and narrative I find that alot better than say 60+ hours where a quarter of it will be needlessly padded out.
Good review buddy. I think that you always provide a lot of detail in your reviews. I will eventually get a review out on this. I just need time to record my audio for it. Personally, I didn't like the game as much as I did when it released for the Vita. Maybe, it's because of games like Death End's great gameplay battle system have been keeping me more occupied.
Does this game... not significantly explore themes of escapism, disassociation, identify, etc. through the NPCs? Clever angles and insights? Or is it just normal anime-style ensemble stuff? Is all the thematic stuff surface level?
This was a title I was really excited for, not sure why I didn’t pick it up; glad to see a few of these vita games making their way to other consoles. Although after this review I may wait for a sale :3

It would be unfair but the asking price when I saw the rerelease of the game is between 40 to 50 dollars give or take. And it's not worth that, it be about 19.99 at the most sorry

I've imported the asian english release on Ps4 and the game ran extremely smooth for what I believe is 60fps could be wrong there but the game plays very smooth and is very clean in comparison to the switch release as to be expected with zero crashes
That's exactly what I said at the beginning. Referring to it as enhanced wasn't meant to take away from it as a remake, just stating that it's a better version. That as a remake it didn't become worse, that it added improvements rather than remain the same.
Death end re;quest next Monday, after that I'm not sure. Zanki I definitely have an interest in even with the censorship they had to put it through. Sekiro is also out soon, and though I may not review it, I'm definitely gonna play it lol.

Been holding off from getting the Vita version as I was hoping this version would be a much better way to play. Despite some of the criticisms you made, I still think it looks pretty good (and a huge step up from the Vita version). Definitely going to pick this up on Switch.
Looks like a NiS game for the most part, which is a game I would buy if I literally had nothing else to do and even then I would probably better off doing something else. I pretty much had signed off on this company, but with their recent localizing of Falcom games they finally have some franchises that arn't just do something a tad original but do it 9000 times type games. Its really a shame because all the games they localize have some promise but they all just miss the mark haha. Like Disgaea probably their best franchise has fun weird comedic banter that I love but if you truly want to play the game your talking like a year of your life in grinding to accomplish everything. Plus something about the places you go just always feels so random, it never really feels like its following a story you just kind of fight wherever whenever.
Don't forget about Danganronpa! NISA definitely has one of the most inconsistent catalogs I find, but I kind of appreciate them for that as I just like exploring these games most other people probably wouldn't bring over. At least.. most of the time. They did localize Tokyo Tattoo Girls after all.. and fuck that game.
@@TarksGauntlet haha That's true I really was only talking about RPGs since that is my thing I don't really play much of other genres. I also appreciate them bring games that would never see the light of day over here even if I am not interested in them. But I for sure am thankful that they are going to bring over Falcom games as everything they make is a top class game and I hope they can do them justice like Xseed has managed to do because they might finally have their hands on some series that can bring them up to the levels of other RPG giants.
@@TarksGauntlet Yep mine also! I hope it does really well and they do a good job so we can for sure get the 4th one also! I think they will do a good job because other then Ys 8, I really have not seen a ton of problems with translation in their games I am hoping that was a one off.
Initially clicked cos “Was this even out yet” but I got my answer few seconds in lol Frankly, I’m gonna get this game for the sole fact that they decided to add a female protagonist for the enhanced version. But going through the basic info, I think it’s conceptually interesting, story-wise. I’m honestly *happy* there’s so many characters to interact with and get to know better. I live for these kinds of details instead of rushing through the main story. Escaping the reality made to escape from reality, finding out dark truths behind characters, seeing the POV of the ‘bad guys’ etc seems interesting. Gameplay is secondary to me as long as I can enjoy a good story. This isn’t for people who wanna ploughing through things so that should be kept in mind.
I have played the PS4 platform Caligula Overdose i never experience any glitch at all (i 've played 3 times NG+ so far) i quite agree that the graphic can be more better, and the fighting gameplay is really easy to get bored after a few hour...when they announce this Caligula Effect Overdose at twitter i though it will have some different, but seem like it still the same...that quite little disappointed actually i would say.But it doesn't change the fact i love this series,I personal like the character design alot (Love Male MC and Eiji here 💙) and they back story deployment. Also i love alot the music from this series it was the highlight of this game, some of it is really catchy and the part i like is the song lyrics actually mean alot (Lucid theme is the best, you can't change my mind.)
And 1 more i wan to add that,This is a strategy game is not really that Smash A button to play...is kinda hurt to see. There is i think 2 character that can break enemy shield is MC and Eiji they are really useful when you fighting those enemy keep guard when you deal meelee attack will get stunned.
It's a strategy game where using strategy only limits your ability to succeed. Which means it's a failed strategy game. Glitches are probably already patched for release, but the character writing is all pretty decent. And there's a lot of it!

@@martinomagic9230 They got old xseed staff on cold steel 3 so here's hoping haha. My most anticipated game of the year!
@@TarksGauntlet Yep mine also! I hope it does really well and they do a good job so we can for sure get the 4th one also! I think they will do a good job because other then Ys 8, I really have not seen a ton of problems with translation in their games I am hoping that was a one off.
A poor man's Persona? or should I say #FE?
It's nothing like persona
@@Shiro92224 its a persona clone
I’m glad for this review! I was considering getting this but definitely not paying $60 for it!!!
It is 49.99
RobotVM That’s good, but still over-priced for an old game! Wasn’t it $39.99 brand new on when released on the VITA?
@@Genethagenius Yes but this is a full remake using UE4. I think if you could wait till it is 30.00 that would be a fair price.
Initially clicked cos “Was this even out yet” but I got my answer few seconds in lol
Frankly, I’m gonna get this game for the sole fact that they decided to add a female protagonist for the enhanced version.
Sounds a bit to RL. Shilly idol trash - the RPG.
The mention of a pop idol made me cringed.. im sure its gonna be disastrous..
It looks good but i hate games that have jpop elements in it
Is there english voice acting in this game ?
