  • April 24, 1715. Denmark and Sweden are fighting in a bloody sea battle not far from the Bay of Kiel. At that time, the superpowers are in an ongoing conflict about territories and trade routes, and the dispute has finally reached its climax. The first salvo fired by the superior Danish fleet hits the Swedish flagship, Hedvig Sophia, five times below the waterline. Centuries later, a team of archeologists return to the scene of the battle in the hopes of excavating the wreck of the Hedvig Sophia and finding evidence that might aid in better understanding this historic maritime confrontation.

I had the privilege of touring the Vasa museum in Stockholm about 10 years ago...I have no words to describe that awesome vessel... The Swedes have performed a remarkable restoration on her!!!🙂🌹

Although wars shouldn't be a big surprise, I never learned about Scandinavian internal wars . Always thought that apart from some bloody Viking stories , these Northern Europeans were much too cuktured to given in to the brutal British Empire building ways. It was not for nothing that the Nobel "peace" price originated from those quarters....... Living so close by in the Netherlands I should've known at least a little bit about it. Instead young kids (especially after both worldwars) were overloaded with the heroic 'non genocidal' conquering of the Americas and the subsequent emergence of Uncle Sam ....allround peacemaker and sheriff of the world.
Thankfully Sweden, managing to stay out of both worldwars , now also joined Nato (U.S.) eastward expansionist plans to station nuclear missiles on Ukrainian territory , 5 minutes from Moscow.
    18:56 👈🏻💨Nice..........

As for the reason that the ship was in shallow water with no sign of combat. The Captain would definitely have known his ship was sinking, and he have purposely headed to shallow water to enable the salvage of the cannon, something that was possible if the water wasn't too deep.

This is the sort of thing which might make you wish to think twice about messing with the Danes well within their own territorial waters.

Strange ......normally I'm also quickly bothered by unnecessary loud intrusive music ; not this time though, might be due to the highly interesting subject matter.
