Originally released as a single in 1973, peaking at #63 on the Billboard Hot 100. Then being reissued and charting much higher in 1976 peaking at #6.
I don't know why this song trending nowadays, but it's deserves the attention, because it's truly a timeless masterpiece.
I think it's recently become a meme because of a movie or something. I keep seeing references to "Kratos falling".
It played in the announcement they made about ending the band. Its featured on the original channel. the Kratos thing on the other has to do with a recent Meme, where the song is played in the background.

The evolution of Tyler’s voice is amazing. You notice the difference…from the 70’s to the 80’s to the 90’s. It got, I dunno, raspier…rougher. But it was like he was reinventing himself every decade. Phenomenal vocalist.

You were right up until 6 months ago he was nailing this stuff but his voice tore a few months back and he retired which is a travesty.
I graduated high school the year after this was released. WHAT A TIME TO BE A TEENAGER. There will likely never be another time in history that will hold the meaning of this era of the 60's and 70's. It's to bad the youth of today will never know the mold breaking freedoms that came with this time.
No, they are tracked and trailed by that damn cell phone. The freedom of actually getting away with friends. Life has aways been complicated, some things have been made easier, somethings not. Absolute gold. The time when Steven Tyler's voice was not as raspy as it is now. If you did not know Steve Tyler, you probably would not recognize his voice then.

"Dream On" came out 3 years before I was born, but I found Aerosmith when I was 13 or so. Local rock radio introduced me to "Dream On", and truly if you didn't know it was Steven Tyler, you wouldn't know it was Steven Tyler, even in the late 80's when I was entering my teenage years. But this is a FABULOUS song!
Tyler started singing in a different register after this is why he sounds different.
Yes I did not realise this was him. He sounds good singing in this range.

It should (and does, in the version I'm most familiar with) follow "Everybody's got their dues in life to pay..."

I feel like the “the past is gone, it went by like dust to dawn” applies more to this phase of Steven’s life than it did back when he first sung it. I’m sure he has learned to appreciate it more as the years have gone by.

This song got me through Iraq. It was the last thing I heard every night before going to sleep. It taught me that we never know when we will be called up to "pay our dues" and that kept the fear from consuming me every day. Words will never convey the meanings that songs hold for us.
