I admit I ended up having my phone going mental with notifications - so I turned them off on every channel. I still subscribe, and watch the videos and on some use patreon to support where I can but no more notifications. But then I'm old, and don't like my phone going off every 10 minutes :-)
I only use youtube on my desktop so notifications are just a discreet number in the upper right corner but the main reason I ALWAYS(!!) hit that that bell is because we need more cowbell. It's an act of rebellion and simultaneously a plea to the Gods.
People say it´s because youtubes subscripition feed is broken and their videos won´t be listed sometimes so they want to make sure their subscribers see their new videos.
In the world of excessive notifications, I NEVER hit the notification bell, why add 100's more unnecessary notifications. I NEVER subscribe to a channel or hit the like button just because the creator begged me too, especially if it's done at the start of a video BEFORE they've given me a reason to. How can you say "If you like this video hit the like button," at the beginning of a video BEFORE I've even watched it, how will I know if I like it until I've seen it. I ONLY subscribe to a channel after watching multiple videos from it and decided I like what they present. Once I've subscribed no need for the notification bell since UA-cam will put a dot next to the subscribed channel so I know there's a new video.
