Amazing haul and though it is great to save and use up already owned art supplies we need happy moments. So happy you gifted yourself this lovely haul. Oh, you did the review of that watercolor palette in the video, very neat.
i saw beckys video ,i dont think i could do a no buy ,i really enjoy my art supplies,i see commercials for that grabie set,i just got my 5th missiongold tube set ,i paid 67.00 for 24 15 ml tubes ,thats such a better buy than that small pan set,im having fun with the 5x8 inch watercolor journals ive filled 5 already ,i paint every day so my practice is going well ,this was fun i am sorry for your loss ,my mom has been gone for a few years.merry christmas you will get nice art supplies im sure ,i dont get gifts any more so i get what i enjoy all year round ,im grateful
@ginabadeaux9319 IM ON MY OWN,no family or friends and I buy art goodies all year then wrap them up and forget what I've bought so I have surprises I do the same for my birthday, it's hard opening presants on your own but at least I have new art goodies to play with
Yes, the tube set is much more economical. I was curious about the pans since sometimes companies formulate pans differently, so it'll be fun to try out. That's great that you've filled so many sketchbooks and that you paint daily. I love that.
Oooooo I love Da Vinci paints and the company! I order from them every so often. I do have the autumn set that came with the free pallet. The sea glass color is gorgeous. The more water I add, the prettier it gets. It really does look like sea glass when diluted. I tried a no buy year before last... not so good. I'm planning on trying again for 2023, so good luck to us both. Love that mission gold palette. I keep telling myself I have enough watercolor in the colors I love to last for years, but ooh so pretty.
I am so sorry you lost your mum and your grandmother recently - you are very brave to keep posting despite the grief - I feel for you. Bless you for giving us joy even though your heart must be breaking! Helen x
The truck did look great in that frame! I’m glad you got yourself some presents, and I’m so sorry about your mom and grandma, I knew about your grandmother but didn’t realize you lost your mom, too. Thoughts with you ❤️❤️❤️
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom and grandmother. I lost my mom in April. When I had cleaned out her apartment one thing she had was a pictured I colored her years ago and my mom keeping anything for a while was rare. She was handicapped due to a stroke she had years ago so moved many times and seeing that she kept that made me cry but happy at the same time. So I try to think about her when I paint ,arts/crafts etc. These are beautiful things and ypu deserve them all. I hope you enjoy them and share some videos with us of you using them. Imo I think that all the big name brands should provide dot cards like da vinci has. Lets be honest they can totally do it without a problem. Btw but thank you for giving us your honest review.Have a wonderful day
Hi Miranda! I love watching you do your unboxings and art supply reviews- seeing you get excited about them is so inspirational. It is sad about your mum and grandma that they always bought you art supplies- I am thinking maybe they are smiling at you from Heaven. That Grabie set seems nice- yes, that Arches paper is wonderful. Take care and have a great rest of your week
WOW! I think it's great you gifted yourself. You've had some really rough patches this year-it made me happy to see your glee. So about the Portable painters. I'm all in for giveaways. But my first thought was to maybe 2 different color palettes. That way you could have a choice depending on where you were going. Just found out Mission Gold isn't vegan (big tube of Cobalt Black in your future) so no temptation there. I had to soldier up for the Da Vinci-they're my favorite. I have Denise's palette and several tubes. I did order Charlie's dot cards. Those were really fantastic. I think you'd be able to reuse those palettes. Theoretically #4 son getting me a gift card from them for Christmas. I was going to get Joyce's Mother Green palette-but now I'm thinking the dot cards. Also going to try a no buy for 2023. Do painting books count? I want Dana's Ocean Book. Just checked it-$4 coupon. It's ordered-yeah me. OOPS-forgot to use your affiliate link for book. Just cancelled order. Will do right tomorrow.
Not only do you get a quick reply from DaVinci - Marcello, the CEO, has replied to all of mine! They are a family company. Oh my! I can't believe I bought a huge DaVinci order a week before black friday. What was I thinking? What kills me is I missed out on the full line dotcard they were offering! They don't sell it usually, and I really wanted that! Anyway they sent me the wrong size of Cobalt Turquoise, so they sent me the large tube I ordered and included a BEAUTIFUL apron. I mean, I'm a fan of aprons, and this one is amazing. So I am totally psyched about that. I believe the only weirdos who make acryl gouache are Holbein and Turner. DaVinci makes the traditional gouache. I'm very excited to see the oils! They make such great sets there.
Wise decision to buy those watercolor goodies! I'm planning a no buy...year? also. My first Christmas after mom & gran passed were sad times; sweet memories. Thoughtful review. I look forward to your gallery wall backdrop
I love DaVinci paints! Just bought and received Denise's newest palette Embrace Opacity! I also have about 6 tubes of DaVinci paints. I too am not buying supplies 2023 unless I run out of watercolor paper or something I do not already have in a different brand. But I don't think I have to worry about it. I have enough! thank you I love your videos. I just recently subscribed to your channel.
I love how many of us are doing the no-buy! I was quite happy with the Da Vinci paints when I did my sunflower paintings and I know I'll really enjoy them in the future. ❤️ - I'd love to have the Embrace Opacity palette, but perhaps in the future!
Yes, I have been using the dot cards for several projects, they give you a generous amount! I bought the small set myself at a great price. I am also sorry for your loss of two very close family members (your mom and grandmother). I believe while I was watching a commercial on Grabie watercolors (by Grabie) that they are a student grade paints (their motto is "so everybody can afford to paint" ) They seem very generous with supplies that are top quality, but the paints themselves seem like student grade paints. I am sure they will come out with professional paints once they get established!
I love these dot cards - what a great value! I do hope Grabie can put in a higher-quality paint at some point, because they have a great idea here. Thanks, Patti!
Oh no I've been eyeing that mission gold palette because I want to try their paint but don't want to get tubes in case I don't like them, and now you are tempting me even more because of how good the palette looks like 😩 also congrats on the dot cards 😅? They look more of paint blobs than dots so that's great good for you 👏🏽👏🏽
Great haul! ❤ That kit is adorable, really too bad the colors don’t work that well. Your awesome for going to the black light to check on the fluorescent of them. Looking forward to seeing more of your new paint !
Hi, Miranda. I watched Becky's video on Sunday. I'm curious to know how you two feel about each other's review. I was soo upset when you got upset about that Grabie painting, as though it was something you'd done wrong, because it was spoiling your very obvious joy in having the gifts which your mother and Grandmother would very likely have chosen for you from your wish list. Equally, I was soo relieved when you enjoyed using your own paints for the painting, and it restored your confidence. It's a big problem when grieving - we do tend to feel when things go wrong that it's all our fault, even when it's very obvious it isn't - and it's very hard to overcome. Molehills we'd normally be able to deal with become unclimbable mountains and "It's all my fault!"or "I should be able top do better than this!" We can't. It just takes time, and everybody's timeline is different. I'm glad that you have a loving and supportive family to help you with that and that they have you to help them with it, too. Those Da Vinci swatch cards - oh my word!!! Looking forward to seeing what you do with those. Incidentally, what are those palettes made of? Are they reusable in any way? As for the tutor's comment on the leaf painting, from where I was sitting when I watched you do it, she is absolutely spot on!!! My only problem is the surprise she showed at what is, in fact, a technique you can do without thinking about it normally. Maybe with those lesson, you could try thinking of it as doing the painting for a video, and then be able to relax and just do what comes naturally? You know what I'm about to say already, but I'll say it anyway! Your paintings don't need to be a clone of a tutor's example. They just need to show that you've understood the technique. Just as you don't expect your students' work to be exactly like yours, so your tutors shouldn't expect it of you. If they do, Miranda, that's not your problem - it's theirs. The problem with the background wasn't your fault. It's a problem with that Hahnemühle paper! You probably won't remember, but in my complaint about it a while ago, I said how the colours faded out. Ok, you had too much water, but that wouldn't make that much difference if the paper was better, I was sort of, "Yes!" when you said here that you prefer Arches to it. Anyway, I've waffled on (as usual!!!) and I need to use some stuff to take the smell of garlic off my hands!!! It was a good dinner, but oh dear - I think I may treat myself to a garlic mincer. This particular garlic bulb seems unusually strong, whereas the last was pretty poor. Hmm... still waffling on... 😊
Miranda, I have that Mission Gold set and absolutely adore it! I don’t usually use MG when painting at home but that set is the first one I reach for when travelling. Colours so vibrant and the set up is great. Hope you enjoy it! And so sorry about your Mom and Grandma. I’m in the same boat and painting is the ticket -
Those dot cards are amazing!! I saw Becky’s review of that little travel kit on the weekend, glad you didn’t pay for it anyway, that would have been even more disappointing. I thought it might be okay for kids, but it seems like it would be frustrating to use for learning. I’ve been watching a number of artists talk about their no-buy 2022 and I’m planning an extremely low-buy 2023. I treated myself a lot this year so definitely don’t need anything! I have never tried Da Vinci paints or the Mission Gold brand… .fun seeing all your new supplies… enjoy!!
I am so sorry for your loss. It can be so hard around the holidays. Big hugs ❤ You got some fantastic goodies! What is the Davinci dot card palette made of?
Hiya Miranda! It is always a pleasure to watch your videos. And puppies! The puppies are adorable as always. I want that Da Vinci dot card. It looks so amazing. I watched Becky's grabie video and a person who gave artistic advice to Grabie. However, I am going to rewatch Becky's video so I can have it fresh in my head. You are such a wonderful artist. Good luck on no buy 2023 of artistic supplies. Does it count if you buy one for mental health reasons? 😁
Hey Miranda, I went a little over board myself for Christmas but I was forced into a no buy, due to a hurricane. I can tell you now from no for one month now the urge is strong.
What a great art haul, I’m so glad you treated yourself; you deserve it after the difficult time you’ve had. That Mission Gold palette looks really cool, I haven’t seen that before, and now I want one too, haha! Love all the Da Vinci stuff too. I am hoping for a Low Buy next year, after the spendy one I’ve had in ‘22. 😂 Also, how awesome are those dot cards!! Your Grabie tin was less graphitey than mine. It’s funny that you had the same cadmium red issue I did. I wondered if the pink and purple were fluorescent when I was switching them - I guess those won’t be lightfast then, lol. My favourite thing in the set is definitely the travel brush! ❤
That's a lot of goodies! The Da Vinci paints are available in Europe but are rather pricey. The paintings were very good. What a difference between the two paints! The Grabie set need more tweaks to be perfect for newbies. Also, at the moment they are not available in the UK. Have a week filled with painting endeavours.
'Isanely delicious!' 😄 I'm very happy to see you treat yourself. So many cool things. I'm most eager to see what you think of Denise's set - it looks so pretty. The design of that Mission Gold palette is something else. I really wanna see how it works for you. Good work and thanks for sharing your goodies!
It's pretty interesting using the black light. I have a black light flashlight for that purpose. It's interesting that some brands that only claim to have PR122 ( quin magenta) pigment actually sneak some fluorescent die in there. It's my only pet peeve about DaVinci watercolor because they do that with their PR122 magenta. At least most brands give you a clue by using the word Opera and listing the BV florescent dye.
I get it. mom & I shared art too and just lost her too. alot of that is out of my price range lol but I love looking at all the different types and colors
I love the mijello paint and have a lot of it so i couldnt justify buying the filled pans, however, i couldnt resist buying the cute palette. I am so glad they sell them empty. Looking forward to your review of the the pans, i really wonder how they differ from the tubes. LOL i should really wait until the end of the video before commenting.
Da Vinci dot cards are how all dot cards should be! The blobs of paint are very generous. I’ve done a one month no buy LOL! From that I created some rules for when I can buy. However, if I fail and ignore my rules, I just get over the hump, and start to follow my rules again. So far I’ve been pretty good. Next year I hope to buy less than this and previous years. I’ve watched Becky’s Grabie video and I commented that apart from the Payne’s grey, I thought all the other colors were rather muted. The watercolors in the second painting are far more pigmented. Love both paintings, but the second one has more energy to it.
Wow okay, it all makes sense... Grabie sent me that same same set and I was like what is going here and then boom, you make this video and it all makes sense. I appreciate you Miranda... I don't comment much but i watch all your videos and I wanted to hear the honest truth... I have been able to work them fairy okay for the most part so I hope to learn more about reviewing art products through you....
Which mixes you use titanium buff ? I'm curios I bought one because I didn't know how to mix a neutral beige!!! I hope I can try some day davinci and mission gold, mission gold do a lot of plastic with kind transparent space mix that look a good pallete. I think interesting that da vinci use a diferent tin color.
I like to mix the Titan Buff with granulating colors as it makes a really pretty mixture for beach paintings. I also like to use it when I'm painting anything cream-colored or want to make any of my other colors more opaque. It's really quite versatile.
Wow, there are so many good options that it's really hard to choose. What is your budget? I have my students buy the Daniel Smith Split Primary set of 6 tubes, but it doesn't have any browns, purples, greens or dark colors in it (like Payne's Gray or Indigo), so that's something to keep in mind. I wish Paul Rubens was still selling their set of 12 half-pans because it has all the right colors in it. Mijello Mission Gold makes some affordable sets and their paint is really nice to work with. QoR has a good starter set of 6, but QoR paint can be a little harder to control for a beginner. If you can afford to buy a professional brand of paint, then please do! QoR, Mission Gold, Paul Rubens, Holbein, M. Graham (as long as you're not in a humid climate for this one), Rosa Gallery, Rembrandt, DaVinci, Sennelier, Roman Szmal, Winsor and Newton, etc. Roman Szmal is a delight to use and their full-pans are very affordable. If you are on a strict budget and could only spend about $25, then the Van Gogh Pocket set is really nice. Just be aware that it is considered student-grade, but it's still a decent paint. Sonnet and White Nights are also decent paints, just not as popular here in the US. The Pretty Excellent set is around the same price and comes with 36 half-pans, I believe. Hope that helps!
i wish more dots cards looked like that! enough paint to get a better idea of how the colours react people seem to really like the little brush, but kinda meh to the paints
i'm sorry for your loss Miranda, HUGGGGSS!! 🫂🫂🫂 glad to see that you're still your happy self though. thank you for sharing the haul witth us, so fun! that mijello set seems pretty compact for 24 colours, NICE! i dont blame you with tthe davinci paints, i saw the deals and if i were in the states, i'd have taken advantage of them as well :D i find it funny tthey reply to you in 30min while they ghosted me LOL. i think they prioritze local customers over international customers.
Here is a link to the Grabie watercolor set if you'd like to replicate it or, hey, maybe even purchase it: bit.ly/3YifFgk
Amazing haul and though it is great to save and use up already owned art supplies we need happy moments. So happy you gifted yourself this lovely haul. Oh, you did the review of that watercolor palette in the video, very neat.
We DO need happy moments! I'll have to find fun and creative ways next year. :-D
You’re killing me! Now I want the Mission Gold pallet.
That's what I was thinking also. It's a nice pallet.
It's so cute, lol.
i saw beckys video ,i dont think i could do a no buy ,i really enjoy my art supplies,i see commercials for that grabie set,i just got my 5th missiongold tube set ,i paid 67.00 for 24 15 ml tubes ,thats such a better buy than that small pan set,im having fun with the 5x8 inch watercolor journals ive filled 5 already ,i paint every day so my practice is going well ,this was fun i am sorry for your loss ,my mom has been gone for a few years.merry christmas you will get nice art supplies im sure ,i dont get gifts any more so i get what i enjoy all year round ,im grateful
Sue, what a great idea!
Oooooo I love Da Vinci paints and the company! I order from them every so often. I do have the autumn set that came with the free pallet. The sea glass color is gorgeous. The more water I add, the prettier it gets. It really does look like sea glass when diluted. A couple of my other favorites are Joyce's Mother Violet (it has PB33 in it) and their Niclel Azo Yellow. ❤️
I also got Seaglass and enjoy it very much, they did need a mixed phthalo turquoise in their line, and the unusual PB 15:4 is fun!
I’ve been eyeballing the sea glass and mother violet since they came out…
I love those dot cards 😍 I really would like to see you using them in a painting ❤ I enjoyed this haul so much. All the items are so cute 😍
I still can't believe how generous they are - and I can tell you they are calling my name! I may have to get to them sooner rather than later... :-D
I tried a no buy year before last... not so good. I'm planning on trying again for 2023, so good luck to us both. Love that mission gold palette. I keep telling myself I have enough watercolor in the colors I love to last for years, but ooh so pretty.
I should do a makeup and art no buy…but I’m not sure I have the willpower…
I am so sorry you lost your mum and your grandmother recently - you are very brave to keep posting despite the grief - I feel for you. Bless you for giving us joy even though your heart must be breaking! Helen x
The truck did look great in that frame! I’m glad you got yourself some presents, and I’m so sorry about your mom and grandma, I knew about your grandmother but didn’t realize you lost your mom, too. Thoughts with you ❤️❤️❤️

You deserve it all.
Enjoy.

So sorry about your mom and grandmother. I really enjoyed your art haul and seeing how happy they made you. And I appreciate your honest reviews!
Aw, thank you. ❤️
Big DaVinci fan here. Also in love with Denise Soden’s set. Thanks for the video.
I am so sorry you lost your Mom and Grandma. Prayers for Jesus comfort to you. Love your channel!

Mission gold had two palettes several years ago. I do prefer that one over this but I do like the mixing space of this one!

You got some fantastic goodies! What is the Davinci dot card palette made of?
Thank you, Lindsay. ❤️ The dot card palette is made out of some kind of compressed paper.

Wow, was very impressed with the dot cards. Have wanted to try the DaVinci brand for some time now. Definitely interested in a future review.
Interesting about the DaVinci color. Good to know! The black light is fun.
I get it. mom & I shared art too and just lost her too. alot of that is out of my price range lol but I love looking at all the different types and colors
Nice haul miranda! I'm so impressed with those Davinci dot cards, how cool are those?!? I can't wait to see you testing out all of your new goodies.
ooh i love that Da Vici color set :)
Wow, thank you for the heads up on DaVinci. I want to see if I can find reviews on their gouache. It's so economical.
She "didn't know what you meant by pigment information?" 🤣😂😅😆😝
Right?
The only thing I don’t like about DaVinci paints is the type of plastic of the half pans…im not sure why they bug me
Hi, What watercolour set would you recommend for beginners
Hope that helps!
i wish more dots cards looked like that! enough paint to get a better idea of how the colours react
people seem to really like the little brush, but kinda meh to the paints
Odd that they put such low quality paint in such a nice tin with nice accessories????
I’m sorry about your mom and grandma ….so hard to have everything change so much…
I am doing a no buy yr myself in 23!! Yikes
i'm sorry for your loss Miranda, HUGGGGSS!!
