Nashville Predators fans singing "Rocky Top" during Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Thx for this. Being a Canadian hockey fanatic, I had my doubts about hockey surviving in the southern US but this past month has totally erased all those doubts. Not one NHL city could come close to the total package that your team and it's incredible fan base is demonstrating. Incredible, simply incredible. I don't have any adjectives other than that. Up my way, your city has been talked about a lot in the media and rightly so. The energy and electricity that you fans bring can be felt by me up here. Just so you know, when I saw 15,000 fans at the warmup, ( I'm talking warmup) 😵 x1000. Not done anywhere else. Your city's story really has gone nuts here. Showing what a hockey craze it is. Congrats
I think a lot of it has to do with the midwest transplants to there. Atlanta has never had support outside of the Atlanta metro for any team besides the Braves, even when the Falcons were good, nobody really cares in rural Georgia. It's all the Dawgs. But Nashville really does love the Predators, and it's been really cool to see. I really think that small sports markets would do good with ONE team per city. Like Oklahoma City LOVES the Thunder and San Antonio LOVES the Spurs. Why do the Florida Panthers exist? What about the Tampa Bay Lightning? They won a Cup and I was there last month and all I see is Bucs jerseys.
I used to hate Gary Bettman's guts, but the overall plan (that he didn't create, just oversaw) of moving NHL to southern and western markets is a crucial reason why the league is where it is today
Multiply this same hockey crowd to 102,000 and you have the crowd atmosphere at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. If you ever want an absolute treat pick up a ticket and take in a game. You’ll know every word to a Rocky Top by the end of the night cause you’ll hear it in excess of 50 times. Tennessee fans are passionate about their (winning) teams regardless of sport.
