Where would the Supremes have been without HDH?? Maybe a one or two hit wonder group. HDH really worked to create music for Ross' soprano/nasal vocals.
Back in "the day", it was The Supremes that first got me hooked on Motown music by the time I was 10 years old. It's because of these artists that I was able to tap into my gift of singing, and have been doing it ever since. "I Hear a Symphony", "Stop In the Name of Love", and so many others, got me into this genre. I owe my musical talent to these wonderful pioneers of the music world!! Love, love, love them and Motown!!!
@@cravendubose8179 Yes, Diane was the queen in THE SUPREMES; however, the group, as a unit, was always bigger than she was. That's what you silly "Ross as a solo act" fans don't realize because you weren't THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY, as a GROUP (not her alone) were the MAIN event!!!!!. Even after the name change, it was still "Diana Ross and THE SUPREMES"............never "DIANA ROSS and The Supremes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Thank you for keeping Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard & Diana Ross -The original Supremes alive.. The powerful harmonic backgrounds of Ms.Wilson & Ballard, the lead vocals & the orchestration are timeless. Check out to some of Mary Wilson's 70s Supremes hits. Enjoying your videos here. thanks.
The 1970s Supremes were awful when Jean left. The proof is in the pudding. Which Supremes oldies do Djay's play? Here's a hint. They don't play the songs with Mary, Lynda Scherie or Susaye singing lead vocals
I love this guy!! I am so envious watching him experience these incredible songs for the first time and I am recalling how wonderful those "highs" were from these songs back in the halcyon days of the 1960's.........he actually reminds me of myself when I heard this song for the first time back in 1965! Enjoy the magical recordings of The Legendary Supremes, Dereck! I loved your enthusiasm for the artistry in this recording and I still love THE SUPREMES to this very day! RIP Mary Wilson and Flo Ballard!
Finally, a reactor mentioned and acknowledged the highly underrated and criminally unknown, "Funk Brothers". The band behind all of the Motown hits. Thank you sir.
I haven’t seen this reaction but my guess is your bananas are going to be given an airing.yes I was correct. Great rendition by Miss Ross and the girls. Fab
The song "I hear a Symphony" is interesting because it has no bridge or chorus between verses. The melody line just repeats itself over and over until the end. But HDH was smart to change the key signature, raising the pitch one-half step for each verse, avoiding the monotony of the repetitive melody. HDH also adds more strings and woodwinds for each verse to build the momentum, giving the song a "classical vibe" throughout the song. Great composition for HDH and definitely a great hit for the Supremes!!
Thanks!!! So gorgeous, this track is in my top 5. My fav is perhaps " Reflections" followed by "You keep my hanging on", "Love child", "My world is empty without you my love", "Stop in the name of love", "Love is like an itching in my heart", "Back, in my arms again", "Baby love", ... About their brilliant track "Baby, where did our love go", I love their German version.
You are in for a real treat, Dereck, if you start looking into The Supremes' hit list .. Can't go wrong with any of them .. And if you like this sort of stuff, then the whole 60's girl group phenomenon should really push your buttons .. Such a wonderful period, and a treasure trove of pop gems awaits you ! .. Wayne
I Hear A Symphony was actually the first vinyl 45 record I bought when this song was first released in 1965. The flip side of the single (the B side) "Who Could Ever Doubt My Love" was just as good. The Supremes sang "I Hear A Symphony" several times on television. The follow up vinyl album was also called "I Hear A Symphony" and was very melodic and contained incredible harmonies by the group. The cover of the vinyl album had one of the best photos of the Supremes ever taken.
*~ You also should really watch the Hullabaloo live performance (Paul Anka gave the introduction). Among their best and their singing was so together; Diana so impressive ~*
I love your energetic reaction, this response to such a classic. You're a refreshing joy to listen to. . . I am old now (yet very much alive), and I was there back in full glory back when this was released and became such a hit in 1965. . . Thank you for appreciating the intricate weaving of these beautiful lyrics with the entry flow of the orchestrations when they spiraled, as you well describe here, with the fine weaving. What great mastery of orchestration, Diana's lead, the brilliant interplay (it's beyond ordinary backup) for Mary and Florence. (in fact, I wish Motown had brought them more up into front in their play here -- but that's another issue). I took a lot of put downs in the 60s for loving, admiring and respecting this and so many of the Supremes, Diana Ross music. I feel vindicated here! It does my soul so much good to hear this and other classics so appreciated for you, a young man, being so as we use to say said back in my time "with it."
Besides the regular R&B musicians, they also had real mini orchestra in the studio, not just recorded music. Mom was a big fan of the motown girl groups, this was one of the songs she played so much.
If you have never heard of the wreaking Crew look them up. They were the musicians who played on just about every release in the 60’s. From The Beach Boys to Sonny and Cher and everyone in between.
The symbolism of 1000 violins fill the air always gets me.
Don't forget Flo and Mary's angelic back vocals.
Still gives me chills, HDH and The Supremes were a marriage made in music heaven ❤️
Where would the Supremes have been without HDH?? Maybe a one or two hit wonder group. HDH really worked to create music for Ross' soprano/nasal vocals.
Maybe my favourite Supremes hit. Glad to see you react to them( also try them after Diana left, Stoned Love is great).

I always considered “I Hear A Symphony” the best song the Supremes ever performed.
When Diana Ross is on the set it’s unmistakable
One of the best songs the Supremes had. If you get a chance check out Reflections. Good song to.
That's MISS ROSS's voice!! LOL - You can never have enough Diana Ross- The Boss!!!
THAT'S the sound of THE SUPREMES! You can never have enough of THE SUPREMES- The Queens!!! Yes, I remember when DIANE was ONE of them!
@@kurtsupremetruthfully, DIANA was and still the only QUEEN of the SUPREMES.

This was actually recorded with the Philharmonic Orchestra string section. It was the Supremes 6th No1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Funk Brothers.
There was such a better version of this song done live by 'The Supremes,' you should have reacted to that one...nevertheless...thanks for this one.

Thanks Dereck. It is my favorite Supremes song. Did you have trouble with the live link?

The Jackson 5 also do an amazing version of this song (that I prefer, but as an MJ I’m biased)
I think Derek is so cute. Give me a call sometime. I want to be friends. ❤
Awesome

Dereck, have you seen the movie Dreamgirls yet? If you haven't you must! You will be living
your best life! :)
Mr. Blues by The Supremes is a song I definitely suggest. Its nothing but 3 part harmony from Diana, Mary and Flo
This song was inspired by a real classical symphony. Notice the key progressions are similar to Pachabel’s Canon but in reverse/
hey man play the Supremes back in my arms again. a cool song from summer of 1965
Listen to PARTENAIRE PARTICULIER WITH THE TITLE " PARTENAIRE PARTICULIER "

You should really check out the 70s Supremes. They were a far better group when they had lead singers who could really sing.
