This is the second video where I've seen someone claim they weren't driving they were traveling and now I'm honestly worried that this is a thing that people have convinced themselves makes sense.
i think it's a thing invented on the internet and passed around on facebook that people were saying could get you out of jail time.
It’s the cost of freedom. Either we have idiots or we have slaves.
Thre is a belief that laws are very, very specific and that there are certain secret words, phrases, and ideas you can have that allow you to circumvent them - like writing your name in all caps or using red ink. Collectively they're called "Sovereign Citizen" as that is one of the secret phrases they think makes them free from law enforcement. One of the most common beliefs they have is that the united states has no restriction on traveling, but instead restricts driving - so long as you state you are traveling in duty of interstate commerce, they think it means there can be no lawful restriction on you.
Its all nonsense based on the concept that laws are incredibly strict and specific. The reality is that judges use judgment, and you can't call what you're doing something else to get out of it - but these people believe you can.
To much internet
This is a thing.. I’ve seen way too many and it’s annoying

WELL THAT’S STRANGE, THE IRS SAYS THIS LAND IS MOROCCO AND THE UNITED STATES IS A CORPORATION!!!!!!
ARTICLE 2
General Definitions
Paragraph 1 sets out definitions of certain basic terms used in the Convention. A number of important terms, however, are defined elsewhere in the Convention. For example, the terms "resident" and "permanent establishment" are defined in Articles 3 (Fiscal Residence) and 4 (Permanent Establishment), respectfully.
The term “United States” means the United States of America. When used in a geographical sense, the term means the states of the United States, the District of Columbia, the territorial sea and, in general accord with the principles of section 638 of the Code, the continental shelf. The Convention does not apply to taxes payable to possessions of the United States or to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and confers no benefit on taxpayers by virtue of their residence in the possessions or in Puerto Rico.
The term "Morocco" means the Kingdom of Morocco, and when used in a geographical sense includes the territorial sea and, to the extent that exploration for or exploitation of natural resources takes place thereon, the continental shelf.
The term "Contracting State" means the United States or Morocco as the context requires.
The term "person" includes an individual, a partnership, a corporation, an estate, a trust, or any body of persons.
The term "United States corporation" or "corporation of the United States" is defined as a corporation which is created or organized under the laws of the United States, any state of the United States, or the District of Columbia, or any unincorporated entity treated as a corporation for United States tax purposes. The term "Moroccan corporation" or "corporation of Morocco" means any body corporate or any entity which is treated as a body corporate under Moroccan tax law and which is a resident of Morocco for Moroccan tax purposes. Morocco considers a corporation created or organized under the laws of Morocco as a Moroccan national, but a corporation created or organized outside Morocco can be a resident of Morocco for tax purposes if its seat of management is in Morocco.
With respect to the United States, the term "competent authority" means the Secretary of the Treasury or his delegate. With respect to Morocco, that term means the Minister in Charge of Finance or his delegate.
This term "State" means the United States, Morocco, or any other national state.

Cop: "Are you a sovereign citizen?"
Guy: "I'm not a sovereign citizen."
Cop: "He's a sovereign citizen."
I feel like I should explain this for people who don't know what a sovereign citizen is. Sovereign citizens refers to a specific group of individuals in the US who believe that the modern US laws do not apply to them. They usually 'follow' older constitutional laws from when America was first founded, or even laws dating back to the colonies, that have since been changed or no longer apply. The term "sovereign citizen" is a specific ideology, however there are several groups who make similar claims that laws don't apply to them. Law enforcement has wised up to this act, usually used to try and get out of paying tickets or cooperating with police, and some groups have since changed their name to avoid immediate detection. The term can also be used coloquially to describe any member of these different "free citizen" groups as a shorthand to let other officers know that the suspect will likely be uncooperative. Imagine someone asked "Are you a Christian?" and the person replied "No, I'm a Catholic". It's a distinction without a difference in this case and the officer needed to fill his buddy in quickly without much explanation.
Edit: I'm not attacking the comment I'm replying to, just posting for other people who may not know why the term matters.
Overworlder97 Thanks for explaining it! I’ve heard the term a few times but never really looked into it.

Oh these sovereign citizens ... do they realize how absurd they sound? “It’s like being in a time out” 😄😄😄. Cop had a great comeback😄
Nope! Their “research” consists of mindlessly following celebrity sovereign citizens on UA-cam & Facebook. Then they regurgitate pieces of whatever sound bites they can recall. Annoying the authorities is the only way they can convince themselves they’re special, and therefore above the law. Sovereign Citizenship is nothing more than a self-centered illusion of power and privilege.
Edit: In all fairness, I’m biased. I was a researcher for 6 years and I can’t _stand_ this particular brand of ignorance.

@@aztecempire4206 The act of controlling or steering a motor vehicle or animal.
Dumbasses who read some garbage online and think they are suddenly above the law
They think because they recently read a thesaurus that replacing a word with a similar word is a loophole to abiding by the law.
How and why does this happen? Nobody likes getting pulled over, but why make it worse?
Because they don't want to be subject to America's laws when these become inconvenient to their lifestyle. So they've created this bizarre subculture that claims to be an independent and indigenous group like the native Americans and thus not subject to any laws except Federal ones (and, even then, only ones they like).
Because people watch sovereign citizens on UA-cam and think they know the law afterwards
When it comes to your constitutional rights you either use them or lose them.
Because you are a loser that cant follow the law.
Their subculture truly believes that they are not beholden to American laws. It's really bizarre, but they have their story and they stick to it.

@@frankcastle9691 Ah, but he's not 'driving a car', is he? He's 'travelling in an automobile'!

Which means american laws apply to you. Congratulations, you played yourself
As long as you are in America laws apply no matter where tf you live

"i'm not BUYING weed, i am merely TRADING my currency in exchange for weed.... that's not illegal!!!!!!!!"
Or like I like to say: " I'm not watching this video, I'm _viewing_ it."
If there was one type of people trump should tell to leave America it’s sovereign citizens
Sweet Cthulhu unfortunately the "sovereign citizens" movement is by people who don't like cops (typically democrats) so I like your attempt
Ryan Hornak I was under the impression that sovereign citizens were opposed to the federal government and not just police in general. I’d say being against the federal government isn’t an especially Democratic stance and is likely to be more inline with political views that favor a smaller government influence.
R M what he said ⬆️
@@rm9867 They're really only fall into the category of libertarianism. And in case you haven't looked around lately, and it kinda seems like you haven't, the modern democratic party wants MORE governmental control than the right now. Why do you think so many businesses (and citizens for that matter) are fleeing California like it already has the black plague that their trashy cities might literally spawn.
@@competetodefeat4610 I can't seem to find any evidence to back up your claim of businesses and people fleeing California.
Does anyone else out there actually have a valid driver's license and no warrants??
Obviously 🙄 what a dumb question. Most people do, you just don’t see clips of them on LIVE PD because this show is not about INNOCENT people’s unremarkable interactions with the cops...
I've never had so much as a parking ticket. It's actually really not that hard to not break laws.
I dunno, man. I thought I was the only one.
I think I may qualify for this
@Sean Charles 29. I live/work in a mid-sized city.

incidentally: Drivers licenses are not required by federal law. They are required by state laws.) Yes, you are allowed to travel in a motor vehicle without a driver's license, as long as you are not driving the vehicle. All 50 states have seen fit to enact traffic codes pursuant to their police power.
Kyndra Well actually the dude is right. Is says in plain black and white in our United states constitution that you dont need a drivers liscence to travel in a vehicle on a public roadway as long as it is not for profit. Traveling is a legal term for driving, refering to the act of driving not being for commerce or for profit. Technically it's a violation of our constitutional rights every time someone is pulled over and arrested or summoned to court for driving witout a liscence. Look it up for yourselves

@@devind2915 no, he isn't. Why do people insist on saying things that are so easily refutable?
@@devind2915 Wrong the right to travel has nothing to do with driving or roadway regulations at all. Right to travel means you have the right to travel between states at will. Traffic regulations are not mentioned at all in the constitution which gives the States the power via the 10th amendment.
