Great video Mark with what feels like actual real world advice which goes beyond just the sound quality (i.e. battery, calls, NC, comfort). Also a nice selection of what most people would probably be looking at. Thanks for the hard work!
I got my XM4s after your initial review and never looked back, first pair of high end headphones I've ever bought and I use them for hours daily. I couldn't live without them now.
Great review as always. I have the XM4s, Bose700 and unfortunately the AirPods Max (1 faulty unit already returned and the replacement is now not working). The XM4s while not perfect (please give me back physical buttons) are outstanding and are my daily drivers. The Bose is no slouch but just a little behind the Sony on sound and comfort.
I do not know why the Sennheiser PXC550-II headphones are often overlooked. Very good sound, as well as voice, and they are so comfortable to wear. An excellent choice for travel and everyday use.
What kind of activities are more comfortable with headphones? I have the Airpods 3, I'm thinking about buying headphones with noise cancellation, but I don't know if it's relevant for me… What do you think? 🤔
Just in time Mark. Joined new company which handed me a Windows laptop(unlike MacBook I had from previous employer- Use MacBook for personal use and used my AirPods Pro for both devices) and was searching for Bluetooth headphones with mic for TEAMS calls. Was confused and now I am crystal clear. Going with Sony XM-4s. Cheers for the review. Well categorised and presented.
What is your recommendation for best noise cancelling device working from home trying to cancel background tv noise? My bose ear buds (an older model) doesn't quite do the job.
XM4s because they were £200 in Doha airport. An absolute steal. They’re very comfortable, excellent features (wind-noise reduction is a godsend), brilliant for flying, audio jack to work passively is sooo worth it, particularly on long haul flights to Aus when you don’t want to chew up the battery 🙃 I also have Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch and they are excellent. Connectivity has never been an issue for me like it apparently is. The longer you use them, the better it gets with your phone. Honestly they are the best earbuds going and sound just as good as Sony, and they’re really comfy and good at staying in. I was surprised by how much aeroplane noise they cancelled out on the flight. I also love their service. Over ears aren’t good for exercise (too heavy and fall off my head during yoga!) and I do have glasses so all of them do start to hurt after a while. Buds are great for running, yoga, glasses-wearing and warm weather! Definitely need one of each. Nice channel x
Great review as always Mark. I’ve had Bose QC25’s, Sony XM3’s in the past, all great noise cancelling headphones but it’s only when you put on..and listen to the AirPods Max that you realise just how good they are..sensational in every way, especially sound, get yourself a hard case for protection with magnets to send them to sleep(yes I know you shouldn’t have too) and you have yourself the kings of over head noise cancellers in your hands 😀
Oddly, I tried ordering the Sony XM4 during Prime Week and they got delayed so many times I just cancelled the order. XM3 came the day before but returned (refurbished without testing) bc they were more than what was paid for a new set of XM4 at the time. So these are technically unicorns to me. Current set remains the Cleer Enduro ANC. Only negative is the weight and no hard-case, but totally enjoy the sound profile. Thx for the comparisons and explanation of key features.
I have a pair of Air Pods pro (very convenient for calls and when walking) and a pair of Sennheiser MOMENTUM 3 Wireless. Sound quality on the Sennheiser blows away the Air Pods when wired in via usb-c to my laptop. Have not tried them passively yet (need to get a DAC), but that is on my wish list. Great Video as always!
I brought the Bose700 headphones. The battery has never reported over 17hrs duration = less than advertised. But what won me over was COMFORT. They still are expensive here. However they have all the features I need and people around me get jealous of me having them.
How does the sound quality compare between the Bose 700/Sony MX4 and Apple AirPod Pro 2? Are the overhead headphones in a class of their own in terms of sound quality or do the newer in ears (Apple AirPod Pro 2/Bose QCii) compete at a similar level? I would only consider buying overheads if the sound quality was noticeably better - otherwise the convenience of in ears is a no brainer for me
Hi Mark I bought the Apple max over ear ones they sound amazing, but even though I’m small, and small head they squeeze my head and gave me serious headaches. So sent Apple back. Now I have the Bose Q45 OMG they are so close to apple, and so light weight I can wear all day Love these. Thank you for your reviews they helped me lots.👍🏼
Apple are supposedly developing a way of using more "bandwidth" over bluetooth that will allow AirPods max to receive true lossless audio which should then turn them into a more "audiophile" product. All via software allegedly. So perhaps a good reason to spend out for these rather than the others mentioned, if that's what floats your boat of course.
