I'm having trouble understanding this lineup. The primary reason you'd go for B&W 700 is the iconic microphone tweeter and the FST. The 706 S3 costs $2,200 which is a whopping amount for a standmount while the 705 S3 costs $3,400. That's absolutely insane pricing for standmounts in the lower range unless the people in the lower range are driving Porsche Turbos. The towers range from $4,000 to $7,000. To get a microphone tweeter you need $6000. That tweeter enclosure must cost a fortune to make or they're just overcharging. A full 5.0 set with the top speakers costs $7,000+ $3,400 + $2,500 = 12,900 just for speakers. If you want to be frugal and get the cheapest models in the series it costs $4,000 + $1,800 + $1,500 = $7,300 but you get a set of speaker that's going to be missing the entire feel of the 700 series. I own 2 sets of home theater B&W speakers and I'm not sure I want to upgrade. I'd be looking elsewhere.
I agree speaker prices have become too expensive and companies like B&W and KEF are charging far too much money. Wait until the speakers become end of line products then you will see up to 40% discounts on everything! I have seen it happen since for many years and I’m always amazed by how much companies slash their prices.
