The bolts were incredibly hard to take out. Like really bad as you mentioned. One of them got stripped from the impact driver, so I had to get a new set of bolts lol.
Yea, I had a new set as well. I wonder if it's a function of the heat cycles and different metals, or maybe yours was replaced once before and over-tightened? Either way I'm glad it worked out ok!
@@StevesGarage got it. I will do the prevention replacement this month. I am ordering an OEM thermostat and after some reviews on sensors, i'll probably go for the original also. Volvo S70 with 430000 kms. Greetings from Uruguay
@@repolloagrio Glad you found the video! I'd definitely go OEM with both as aftermarket units can have issues or a much lower lifespan. OEM is worth it for these parts!
Damn, im so grateful i got one of these early thermostats like in your video... It's so easy compared to the ones after 2003.
What's the difference on the 03+ cars?
@@StevesGarage they’ve got a different thermostat housing that’s harder to reach and that needs a different gasket than that one right here.
@@E38Bimmer35 Oh interesting. This one was annoying enough, I can't believe they made it worse!
By far the best video on the topic! Greetings from Germany
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you found it helpful.
Awesome video, thanks man!
You're welcome! Glad you found it useful and thank you for commenting!
What is the correct temperature at which the thermostat operates? I want to replace it but they offer me several options, V70XC year 02 turbo
The one I put in is 194f / 90c My car is a 2000 though, so P80 gen. I'm not sure if P2 gen cars are different.
@@StevesGarage Thanks My friend

Does you drain coolant out?🤔
Unless your car needs a coolant flush, there's no need to. You can just top off what you lost when doing the work.
wd40
For the bolt? I don't think that would have helped with the RTV or loctite that was holding the bolt in.
