... Eddys first production Amp, the "Lenz Hot Chili" is one of the best amps you can get ... works great with Singlecoils and Humbuckers ...goes from pushed SRV breakup to all the classic 80 Hardrock and more ... well done Eddy !
Lenz's SIR34/36 Kemper profiles are insanely good. Brian Little also makes killer profiles of the Smallbox, 100w Marshall HW plexi and some others. Cool video! Speaking of Pisco...i used to live in Santiago Chile as a teenager and drank too much pisco and puked all over the place...that smell haunts me to this day LOL.
It's great that there is a show like this. I've been a guitar player my whole life and started tinkering with amp building about 7 years ago. The obsession led me to eventually design an amp for one of my favorite guitar players who has influenced countless people for over 40 years. He tours relentlessly with amps i've built for him. It's a great feeling and your show helps the motivation to continue. The business seems impossible though lol Thanks guys!
1:08:29 - The ‘78 started in the Custom Shop around 2001/2002 (back when the public didn’t know about the Custom Shop). It was called the “EVH” which did upset Edward Van Halen, so Seymour announced that it meant “Evenly Voiced Harmonics” (yeah, sure!) but eventually it became the ‘78. A few years later Seymour, MJ and EVH designed the Frankenstein pickup together. It was exclusively made for Fender and the $25k Frankenstrats. Only about 100 were made. Soon after the Custom Shop offered the IM1 which was their alternative version of the Frankenstein. It stayed that way until they made a deal with EVH to officially offer the Frankenstein in the Custom Shop. Note, Duncan also makes (OEM) the regular EVH Frankenstein pickup that everyone can buy. The Custom Custom was designed from the 5150 Kramer guitar’s damaged humbucker, in the late ‘80s. Ed was working on a Steinberger signature guitar at the time but eventually moved-on to EBMM and DiMarzio pickups. Duncan released its pickup in the early ’90s.
Dave, you’d dig Eddy’s amps man. I just played my INSANE modded JMP he did for me, his Octane Mod. (Based off his 20watt Loomis Mod but in a 78 100 watt Marshall JMP). Fire in the hole Dave!! With his amps, I also have the Hot Chili which is insanely tasty. You flick outta standby, as soon as the sound hits the feel, my guess, a good 5 minutes goes up in notes & you stop in stoked’ness ..to realize you have not engaged any push pulls yet or the Depth/Attack. Each push/pull or switch does not add any noise nor does it dramatically change what’s under your fingers. Even the gain boost..doesn’t add much noise unless pinned and looking for noise. Not too many push/pulls or switches either, -keepin’ the push/pulls switches very effective & useful. He’s amplifiers convinced me that all I need is a one channel amp to get me there & get after writing songs again. There’s something in his amplifiers that facilitates..connecting the dots on the guitar neck like no amplifier in my travels..-dope AF man!! The juicy/melodic nature at note attack draws these rad intervals outta you that actually make you hungry for bacon man!! You can see him demonstrate this in his YT videos when he plays Slash licks..an immediate juicy’ness that you can tighten it just enough to be defined with your hands in the moment..sick shit brother!! I’ve been relentlessly tellin’ dudes -“Go ahead play one” I’m not concerned in the least about them being bummed, oh they’ll find it real quick. And the dude is TWENTY THREE?? What are we..seniors class A? Imagine what he’s pumping out in 10 years? Cheers for YEARS!
Hey Marc, You guys mentioned Alex Lifeson and showed the new guitar during the show and just wanted to mention that a few weeks ago Chris Shiflett from FooFighters did a podcast with him and appears to be posted by Premier it was really cool if have not seen it, but just saying you might be able to get Alex on I have meet him close to a dozen times over the years. I have seen RUSH 81 times since 1975 just had to throw that there.
Plate driven EQ has more bottom end (Bass) and slightly recessed highs, all other things being equal. Some folk don't like the subtle effect of Cathode Followers but in a guitar amp you really are baking a cake with many ingredients so everything affects everything.
i like how Dave stopped shy, @4:50, of saying out loud that the Alex Lifeson Epi is probably made better than the Gibson stuff. He's got better restraint than i do.
History (as usual) seems to repeat itself and it'd be almost funny if it wasn't infuriating. The biggest mistake Jim Marshall made in his professional life (by his own admission in his official autobiography) was signing that dreadful 10year long "deal" with Rose/Morris in the beginning of the 70s decade, which essentially rendered his amps as "not available" in the US because they were insanely expensive. Imagine your amps being off the US market during one of the golden decades of RnR... Not sure who is responsible for the current deal with the US distributor, but $1799 for the "baby" 20W Marshalls or $3k+ for a 2203 reissue is a joke. It's almost the same deal with US made amps here in Europe. They are significantly more expensive, but not by the same magnitude as Marshalls are in the US market. Great episode guys, couldn't watch it live, just finished watching it.
Hey Dave if you see this could you answer this question: I know Boutique Amp Distribution has the license for the production of new Soldano products. I'm from a generation of guitarists that that used Mesa Rectifiers for their core sound. I know the controversy surrounding the "borrowed" design of the SLO100. In addition, most amp techs I've talked to criticize Mesa's poor engineering designs. [question:] Seeing that the preamp is Mike Soldano's intellectual property, would it be legally viable to clone the early 2 channel Recifier and put a Soldano badge on it? In Reality what is Gibson going to do, bring legal action for infringement, really!😆I think a whole generation of fans would appreciate a better built Rectifier clone. Thanks!
Gotta get Billy Rowe on the show. He makes Friedman guitars (as well as Rock N Roll Relics), plays in Buckcherry (and Jetboy) and is just an all around good dude.
Only a fool would not realize that this is not the REAL Davis Friedman or Marcus Huzanski! The characters portrayed on this episode of tone talk were CLEARLY generated using AI technology!
I love Eddie’s UA-cam channel.

Blues Saraceno would make a good guest. The amp his father built for him is most excellent.
They should have both Blues and Alex Saraceno as guests some time. That would be great!
Berlin…3 days tall…
Beyond Thunderdome type of carnage.
Impossible to burn down that town.
Copenhagen….GNARLY rad dudes.

Marc's voice level was really going in and out during this episode.
Oh really? Thanks for letting me know. I must have been moving away from the mic. I’ll fix it for the next show.
