My wife's first car was a mini cooper convertible , great little car , I had a E class merc at the time but I loved borrowing the mini to fly up the shops or just a taking it for a spin loads of character and loads of fun .
My Grandad was ex Irish police and very much your stature at 6"4. He used to pour himself into a mini Clubman ( estate) and loved it. Im 58 in two days and i can still remember the number plate. ZIU 39.
I have a VW polo 9n3 (2006) and I couldn't have asked for a better first car. It's a 1.4l 16v so just a simple 4 cylinder but it's been so reliable and always fun to drive. I genuinely look after this car better than most parents look after their children... Almost 2 years on now and I don't want to get rid of it, when I do it will only be in the quest for more power and it will be sad to see it go to some 17 year old yobbo who will more than likely wrap it round a tree within the first week:(
I’ve got an 04 R53 Cooper S in electric blue with white. lovely car, so tight and nimble and I loves my supercharger! Also like a bit of High peak aswell lol
Snap! I've got a 04 R53 cooper s with a supercharger ! 102 thousand miles on the clock and it drives amazing, no knocks or rattles! Just wish it was a bit better on fuel?
@@johnpeace23haha yeah so does mine on 96k, mines not too bad really and it’s got a modified smaller pulley, she don’t do too bad for fuel (aslong as I have a light right foot😂)
They're beautiful cars I've always wanted one. My mother had a Mini when she was alive I think it was a 93 little blue one. I keep asking people who know a lot about cars what the best type of mini to buy is and they keep recommending a cooper works. Yours seems fucking spotless
Great video mate. Really enjoyed the spin. Was thinking I'd love a spin for real in it 😂. Was like an episode of Top Gear. Nice car. Seems to have really good pick up. Cheers for that mate.
Years ago my missus was offered one of these as a company car, having read a lot of reports on it, I was a bit sceptical, one of the criticisms was that the Chrysler Tritech engines fitted were very harsh, it was even reported that some of the senior management at BMW were unhappy with its performance, well it was her decision not mine and she went ahead and accepted the deal, Wow what a great little car, went like a rocket, and the handling was brilliant, I didn't think that the engine was harsh, maybe a bit buzzy, a bit like a four cylinder bike engine used to feel, but that buzzyness and sense of urgency really suited the car, I loved it, I drove down through France in it a few times on holiday, the only problem was ... Luggage. These early Minis are a great buy, I'm tempted myself. As for the later ones, yuk, the original design brief .. ' It Must be unmistakably a Mini ' seems to have been thrown out of the window, also the Peugeot engines fitted are not very reliable, no thanks.
Loved this video Dave. There is something about them isn't there? I'm on my second one now, I used to have a stripped out, track prepped R53 Cooper S and it was a mad little thing, you could throw it into corners as hard as you dared and it would just grip and go around. I've now got the F56 (MK3) John Cooper Works and that thing is so quick, and still has much of the character but isn't quite as raw and doesn't quite give the same confidence on the bends (but that said it's still far better than most cars in that respect). I'll be looking to see if I can make it handle as well as the R53 at some point. Also I don't think I've ever been waved at by another mini oddly enough, I used to get waves all the time in my mx5 but I guess the mini is just too common a site on the roads for people to be waving 😆 glad to see another one who enjoys these cars!
I was thinking it won't be long before it'll be exempt from road tax so having it sat there doing nothing won't cost you anything. Little did I know that the 25 year road tax exemption ruling was got rid of in the late 90's and now it has to be 40 years old to be exempt ...
Im thinking about buying a mark 1 for my cousin because shes gonna think it cute but PKEASE PLEASE PLEASE talk some sense into me as the Internet tells me that these are about as reliable as Joe Bidens memory. I or should I say we won't have the time, money or will to keep going if it wants to act like a spoilt brat.
@@BlueVanManThe first car i drove was a mini Metro had about 20 to 25 driving lessons in it with a alcoholic driving instructor back in the day but failed my first driving test and never retook lessons or the test ever again. I am now 55 and have never owned a car how sad is that Dave?

That's a beauty Dave!
Brilliant video mate 👍🏻
Your inner "Clarkson" coming out, as you head down to "diddly squat" 😂 can tell that you're really fond of that vehicle, back to our youth....
Couldn’t agree more, great vid 👍
Cheers mate
Would be class to have a series about this car, I've seen your previous videos on making it look better with the roof etc. Class mate
Get a convertible Mini, twice the fun!!
I love mini

Saying goodbye to a good friend
He’s just bought a tuk tuk 😂
What's your opinion on Mini no longer making manuals? I can't upgrade from my current one (don't want to either tbf) because I want a manual car...

Robbing bastards
2009 Cooper S here, had over 2yrs but thinking of selling soon..
U need to modify it like mad mate love see more videos with it 😝
By God he's turned into clarkson
The suspension is horrendous you feel every little bump in the road as if the wheels are gonna cave in but hold the road really well
10:54, has it had a new door at somepoint, or is it just the lighting
At some point no matter how careful you are at getting in and out you bang your head on the excessively large interior roof mounted courtesy lights 🙃
rrrright folks i’m back in the mini let’s go for a spin😅
Dave ma boi 👍
get it undersealed with lano guard or wax oil
Money talks Dave.
Green is best
Do some kfc and burger King reviews like you used to for fook sake
They see him rolling they hatin...

Never been a fan of the Mini , I feel unsafe in small cars, and to me they just look awful,,,,
Built like a tank mate.
