I injured my right knee in a car accident back in 2000. I ended up having surgery to address a meniscus tear, and a lateral release to "realign" my kneecap. Just my luck I fell last week on the 8th, aggravated my right knee, and really did a number on my left knee. I'm having pain and swelling above my kneecap, on the inside of the knee, and on the back of the knee. It hurts to fully extend my leg, or to do a deep knee squat. It can bear my weight, but not for prolonged periods of time. If I walk on it too much, I'm in agony. I've been treating it with ice, started with heat just as of yesterday, elevation and rest whenever I can. Knee injuries aren't as painful (to me) as much as they are inconvenient. I happened to fall while I'm currently out of work.
I was at wrestling practice last week and my knee was twisted in an awkward position. Now I have severe pain in the interior side of my knee. Also my knee pops with every time I take a step. Should I see a doctor?

thank you doctor. in case you read this, this is my mri results horizontal tear in the medial meniscus involving most of the body and posterior horn. There is also a small radial tear in the posterior meniscal root. how bad is this? do I need surgery? I can't get in with a doctor where I live even though I've had an mri. this is the best info I have gotten so far. i'm still a little confused about what direction I should take with mine but at least this give me a better idea. I messed up something in my knee about 11 months ago while I was doing box jumps. For about 5 months I couldn't really do anything with it but it finally started getting better and I was able to squat and do my old normal leg exercises. However yesterday while at the beach I moved wrong and my knee made huge pop sound and my friends around me heard it and today my knee is really swollen and it hurts to extend it all the way and bend it in. Could it be my meniscus? Please help.

Hi Doctor, My daughter aged 10 years has "complex tear of the lateral meniscus with a flipped meniscal fragment lying posteriorly" in her right knee. She donot have any pain or swelling.Nor she has knee locked. Doctor suggested to go for Arthroscopic surgery. Please let us know if she really needs operation as she has no symptoms of meniscus tear in her right knee. She had ungergone Arthroscopic surgery for her left knee 6 months back due to "Discoid lateral meniscus with complex tear" and her knee got locked. Couple of days back we took MRI of her right knee just to make sure her right knee is fine. Please let us know if she really needs operation for right knee. Thanks Balabharat

how long would be recovery for a torn meniscus tear and scar tissue and need a patella femoral replacement getting surgery soon how long before you can play sports again
I have a complete torn ACL and a torn meniscus, plus thinning of the cartilage. I was told that I don’t need surgery. Did anyone was diagnosed the same and if they were, they were told that they need or surgery or not?
Please suggest me. Should i reqire surgery..? My MRI report point is..👇 1. There is T2WI hyperintensity and irregularity of ACL suggestive of grade ll injury with stretching of PCL. 2. LCL- grade l injury. MCL are normal in appearance. 3. There is grade l injury of posterior horn of medial miniscus:grade lll injury of anterior horn of leteral miniscus. 4. Non diplaced fracture of tibial spine noted. Small contusions seen in leteral condyles of femur and tibia. the visualised joints appear normal. 5. Joint alignment is maintained. 6. Joint effusion noted.
I have an acute posterior medial meniscus root tear with extrusion. I get a spot tenderness at the medial joint line esp when I rest one knee over the other. I have no swelling or any functional or mobility impairment. I had a grade 2 gastroc muscle tear that caused the meniscal root tear. I get soft grinding that comes and goes spontaneously. Is there anything you could suggest to help with the soft grinding. Thanks Dr
How do they know the meniscus don't heal? Do they do follow ups on those who have tears with MRIs? I'm thinking they mostly only deal with people with severe tears that have no hope of healing so they think that all tears can't. I'm just wondering because I had a meniscus tear that cleared up after a month and haven't had any issues since.
Michael Bazdell I don't believe that because the body is always regenerating. How can runners go for years and still have functional knees if it doesn't? Healing might be slow for cartilage such as the meniscus, but unless it's completely displaced like a bucket handle tear, I don't see why it won't eventually heal.
***** I'm sorry you're having issues with your meniscus. I guess I was lucky when I recovered from mine. I'm guessing people with very large or displaced tears would be the ones who have issues. Mine was big enough though that I could feel it kind of catching in my joint as I walked.
Michael Bazdell I'm glad the people who have continued complications with their meniscus tear or other health problems have medical intervention at their disposal. However, I'm upset that these medical professionals are telling everyone out there that their injury won't heal. Mine healed without medical intervention. I even have a physical job where I'm moving around on my feet 40+ hours a week. It took 6 months but I'm not longer feeling any catching sensation in my knee or pain.
Paul Mattoon Hey, I torn my meniscus yesterday, but I'm not sure if I need surgery. My knee still allows a full range of motion. Were you able to fully extend and bend your knee when you torn yours? Thanks!
Jinarchy Yes, but not all the way able to extend due to knee effusion (inflammation inside knee), but almost fully extend it. To be honest, I'm still recovering 7 months after I tore it. I don't feel a catching sensation when I'm walking anymore, but it still doesn't feel completely right yet. Recovery is very slow.
My knee has been slightly giving away for about 3 years but never delevoped any real pain. A few months ago, after running seriously for several months, my knee began to hurt quite a lot when to the point where I couldn’t walk without limping. The pain has now stopped but I regularly feel sharp pains when getting out of my car or making turns when I walk. Is this what I could have? I feel no aching pain and my knee never swells.

Difference between it not healing (tear still there) and using PT and anti inflammatory shots so it is not as painful and debilitating. That is what she means by get better
Everton sorry i don't really understand your explanation of her meaning. You agree she said "The problem with meniscus tears is that they do not heal ON THEIR OWN" then she said "Sometimes people get better ON THEIR OWN...". So her comments contradicts giving no clear answer. Your explanation of Using PT and/or anti-inflammatory shots is using external means to assist the recovery of the injury and not an injury getting better on its own. This backs her initial point but obviously contradicts her second. I'm also ignoring the fact that use of anti-inflammatory shots, are more than likely just masking the pain and how debilitating the injury actually is. In turn the injury is not getting better or healing as the individual is putting the area under excess stress due to the masking of the pain from the shot!
Yep the last thing that you said. I pretty sure she means that though their is still an actual tear the patient can live a pain free and still have full functionality of their knee.
I need help I fell hard on my right knee in September on my job and my knee hasn’t been same it always feels like when I bend it, it is being held tight and hard, I get shooting pain in knee cap but in my lower part of knee in front. broo i litterally have had these symptoms in my knee since may (5 months) and i went to a doctor about a week after i hurt it (i was playing soccer and was kicked upwards by someone who was running in front of me) and my mother doesnt believe me. i cant bend my knee all the way and if i twist it a lot, i get a sharp pain and the day after i cannot walk without pain.
I tore my lateral meniscus (the tear crosses all three zones) and I'm going to get part of the meniscus removed and part repaired. (I'm 13) To anyone who went through something similar; What was your recovery like?
+Emily Berkow i also tored my lateral meniscus while playing soccer my knees were deshaped they were bent inwards . i went to a therapist . i tried yoga but no effect . i had swelling in my both knees . i tried many doctors but nobody was suuccesful my pain continued . later on somebody suggested me muslim physician . he made me do many exercises . my swelling went in the first week and in about 4-5 weeks my knees were cured . i can run and do everything . i request you not to go for a surgery . you may permanently damage your knees. (I'am 13)
+Emily Berkow Yea, i'm 13 as well and I tore mine playing soccer when a kid kicked me on the menial side of my knee. I didn't need surgery but just time and physical therapy.
DW Sports (update i guess) got the surgery about 3 months ago- I'm still in physical therapy now and haven't been cleared yet to return to sports. So yeah, plenty of time and physical therapy. I must have gotten unlucky with this particular injury, I haven't been allowed to do any sports since September when i injured it.
+Emily Berkow When I had a meniscus tear at the age of 11, I didn't know what happened. I couldn't walk and limping was really painful. When I was in the emergency room, I was taken for an x-ray and given crutches with a knee brace. Didn't help too much and was surprised to find that they couldn't diagnose it: probably because I wasn't given an MRI. Went a week with crutches through sixth-grade state testing (back then it was STAR in California) and had to take months of PE off with my grades being one of the worst in middle school which I hated as I don't like anything below a B (my personal reference). My knee never really healed; my mom spent lots of money buying me knee sleeves that would quickly slip for the last year and a half. I still feel pain at random moments but I have gotten back to running the normal runs at my high school which I thought was a great improvement.
I bodybuild. Recently when I was doing a leg routine i was Leg pressing 360lbs when doing the Movement. I twisted my right knee and felt s shap ice pick like pain on it. And the popping sound. I rested for 30 mins and the pain went away. But everytime i bent my knee it returns. So to be safe. I stop training for 2-3 months not applying R.I.C.E. and just let it heal on its own. Lately i hear that familiar popping sound but No pain. Then when i started to train again it came back like a Bitch!. Everytime i do a leg routine. I.E sqauts, lunges especially it hurts. Like hell then goes away. Only hurts when i bend but not everytime. I can run, jump, Walk. Mostly un inpeded but how do i get rid of thiz. Should i apply more R.I.C.E on this. TY
The Decider currently you're having an acl tear . the popping sound indicade that your lateral femoral condyle was impacted to the lateral tibial plateau. bone bruise will appear during mri view . your twisting knee activity or dynamic valgus mechanism cause your acl to tear . pain during bending the knee maybe indicate that there are some fluid or swelling oedema in the knee capsule . do the R.I.C.E procedure and meet an orthopaedic doctor . physician will do some test such as lachman test , mc murray , and anterior drawer test .

Should I see a doctor?
hell fucking yeah.
Any update bro? Sounds like you sustained a ligament injury if it pops
Hopefully you seen a doctor by now

Hi In MRI report DR conclusion is . I have right posterior horn of medial meniscus tear with joint effusion , My knee was twisted a few days ago. is there any treatment with out surgery .I can walk but feel pain .
Hurt my knee in June carrying a bag of sand. Since then been in pain getting my surgery in 3 weeks though can’t wait to get it sorted
I've had this pain for a year and it hurts every single day.
@Ved Mishra I had it almost 4 years it was bad at the beginning now is a lot better had therapy but still there now I got mri waiting for the next step

how r u now?
And now?
whish your video would have included testing that is done to determine what kind of injury or cause of pain would be
I fell on my knee while running 6 months ago and it's gotten better but it's still there and I'm scared lol. It's only pain when I put pressure on the front bottom on my knee.
thank you doctor. in case you read this, this is my mri results
horizontal tear in the medial meniscus involving most of the body and posterior horn.
I can't get in with an orthopedic doctor for a couple of months and my family doctor has referred me to them and won't see me for this. meantime, i'm walking around in pain, not able to work full time and don't understand who much trouble I am actually in or going to get in.
How are you now
You only hope is a complete amputation 🪚
Guys how much pain and for how long is too much? I've injured my knee 3 weeks ago, and it is still not 100% functional and it hurts but not like crazy. It'll take like 2 months to get a MRI here so I am just rolling with it with cane and knee brace if I have to walk somehere.
I might have one. I'm 16 and I dance contemporary and ballet and I had this happen to me out of a jump. I can't straighten my leg or put any weight on my leg. Is that a symptom? I'm getting a MRI but I just would like to know beforehand. Thx you for this video, very helpful
This is exactly whats going on in my knee! couldn't of said it better myself. Its been at least 3 yrs now and its killing me.I have had my knee done a cpl of times in the past, but i was tryin to bite the bullet. also i have a lcl tear on the same side as the meniscus tear. not sure what to fix first?? anyone?? thx
How long is recovery if surgery for sports?
I paint for a living. I've had that rock in my shoe for about 9 months. I refuse to take pain killers so I just deal with it.
I actually notice the days when it doesn't hurt. Those are such good days.
Thank you. I have had trouble on my right knee, in 2006/2008 I had surgery to fix it. But these past 3 years my left knee has been popping locking up on my and last Sunday I got out of the truck it locked up it is still swollen and in alot of pain. I see knee doctor Monday
how r u now?
I messed up something in my knee about 11 months ago while I was doing box jumps. For about 5 months I couldn't really do anything with it but it finally started getting better and I was able to squat and do my old normal leg exercises. However yesterday while at the beach I moved wrong and my knee made huge pop sound and my friends around me heard it and today my knee is really swollen and it hurts to extend it all the way and bend it in. Could it be my meniscus? Please help.
I tore mine and when it pops like that it usually indicates it. Mine did the same thing. Mind locked up and popped very loudly. I would get an MRI

I believe I had a partial tear in my left knee. More activity would cause more discomfort. Broke left ankle and was non weight bearing for 8 weeks and pain went away.
Hi Doctor,
My daughter aged 10 years has "complex tear of the lateral meniscus with a flipped meniscal fragment lying posteriorly" in her right knee.
Thanks

How to consult with her ???
I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my knee, it doesn't hurt to do squats, but when my knee is straightened when i'm sitting on my bed or something, it hurts on the inside of my knee on the left side on my right leg. My little brother tackled me and it twisted the wrong way and I could feel it pop, but i can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it.
May be something with your MCL, when I sprained mine, it only hurt when running and jumping, sometimes walking, never hurt with squats.
how long would be recovery for a torn meniscus tear and scar tissue and need a patella femoral replacement getting surgery soon how long before you can play sports again
I have a complete torn ACL and a torn meniscus, plus thinning of the cartilage. I was told that I don’t need surgery. Did anyone was diagnosed the same and if they were, they were told that they need or surgery or not?
Surgery 😢
Please suggest me. Should i reqire surgery..?
My MRI report point is..👇
Recovery is very slow.
hey i have a grade 2 acl tear(mid substance level) ,doctor put plaster on my leg for 56 days but still my leg have swelling is that a problem?
My knee has been slightly giving away for about 3 years but never delevoped any real pain. A few months ago, after running seriously for several months, my knee began to hurt quite a lot when to the point where I couldn’t walk without limping. The pain has now stopped but I regularly feel sharp pains when getting out of my car or making turns when I walk. Is this what I could have? I feel no aching pain and my knee never swells.
You definitely have torn your meniscus.i have 3 surgeries already.

Thanks for the video, I am 26 years old and i have torn my left knee's ACL playing sports 2 weeks ago and other damages were followed as per the MRI such as:
Torn posterior horn of lateral meniscus.
Degenerated posterior horn of medial meniscus.
Grad I injury of medial collateral ligament.
Lateral femoral and both tibial Condyles bone contusions with underlying fissuring.
Mild knee joint effusion.
I am wondering if it is necessary to make the surgery right away or can i wait 3 months without causing more damage to my knee? I currently can't bend my knee more than 90 degrees and it is also swelled. Please advise, thanks in advance.
Hey Man?
Was wondering if you got the surgery done cz I have similar symptoms
Plz provide update. Thanks
Hey thanks for this video. My MRI scan showed that I have complex tear in posterior horn and body segment of medial meniscus . Radial tear at the free edge of the body segment. I am able to walk freely without pain. It only pains when I put more pressure on my left knee. My doctor suggesting me to have surgery. But I don't want to have one . Please suggest your appoinion. I am doing some knee strengthening exercise at home .
How's your knee now?
Get a PRP injection , the surgery is a bad choice as they cut away meniscus cartilage and leaves bone on bone leaving you prone to get arthritis.
I have pain on the outside of my knee. It is very odd. I have arthritis and I got a Symvast 1 injection, but it is not helping the pain on the left of my kneecap.
hmmm at 2.11 "The problem with meniscus tears is that they do not heal on their own" then at 3.17 "Sometimes people get better on their own..."
I caught that too......
So basically it's a choice of whether to treat the underlying cause with surgery (The tear) or treating the symptoms with PT and anti-inflamm.
Mam i have grade 3 lateral maniscus tear

Can they just point to the part of the knee that hurts?
Can a trauma to the meniscus be caused by a contusion toward the knee?

I tore my lateral meniscus (the tear crosses all three zones) and I'm going to get part of the meniscus removed and part repaired. (I'm 13) To anyone who went through something similar; What was your recovery like?

I still feel pain at random moments but I have gotten back to running the normal runs at my high school which I thought was a great improvement.

i have a tear of 4mm ?will it heal?
TY
The Decider currently you're having an acl tear . the popping sound indicade that your lateral femoral condyle was impacted to the lateral tibial plateau. bone bruise will appear during mri view . your twisting knee activity or dynamic valgus mechanism cause your acl to tear . pain during bending the knee maybe indicate that there are some fluid or swelling oedema in the knee capsule . do the R.I.C.E procedure and meet an orthopaedic doctor . physician will do some test such as lachman test , mc murray , and anterior drawer test .
get well ROSE

If you have a meniscus degenerative tear get a PRP injection , I tried it and it is amazing , took several weeks to obtain effectiveness but it’s been a year and pain no longer at site of tear. Also tried before prp , cortisone but it was temporary and cortisone is bad for your joints and body. The gel shot was also ineffective PRP is the way to go using your own cells !
