Junie Gyllenhaal you did not just say All of the Lights, Blame Game, and Lost in the World are garbage 😂 plus Who will Survive in America was more of an outro than anything
Every single Kanye West album is amazing. You have to listen to them many times in order to understand. For example, I remember when I first listened to Yeezus I was like "wtf is this electronic shit?" But after hearing it over and over I understand that that album is YEARS ahead of it's time. Sure the lyrics aren't the best but the production is amazing and the way he uses his voice in subtle ways to complement the beats are genius. Same for TLOP. When I first heard it I was thinking that Kanye let me down but after hearing it again and again you understand how different and ahead of his time his albums are. Every single album Kanye makes is different from the last and somehow they're all fucking great. He is the most consistently great contemporary artist there is right now. Shit, even look what he did with fashion. Before the Yeezy boosts, nobody was using that materials that that shoe is using and now all the major (Nike, puma, Jordan, Converse, etc) brands copied the style. Man is a creative genius.
This! I thought Yeezus was Kanye’s worst album, that shit is crazy truly an amazing body of work. Shit, even Ye is great. Kanye does not have a single bad album. Period.
Fucking LOVE this show so much. The reason I subscribed to complex. I love taking in Joe buddens knowledge and wisdom on the music industry today. Hope to do a feature with him sometime
Maxxad TV Me too, this shit is like 'Inside The NBA' for hip hop. you have a vet and a young cat talking about hip hop with two different perspectives.
Kanye created 5 classic albums in 6 years. He literally has the perfect discography that every artist dreams of, and strives towards. Everything from The College Dropout to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is literal perfection. I'd break it down as, Kanye is the better artist, while Jay is by far the better rapper. 💯
Tristan Waldron They were good for what they represented. I, myself, am not that fond of Yeezus at all. Despite that, much like with 808s, I acknowledge the fact that it is an experimental album centered on frustrations driven by societal pressures/struggles. As for TLOP, that was a strong religiously driven album. Containing concepts and principles that are similar to a lot of Kanye's oldest albums. Granted, TLOP doesn't hold a candle to TCD or LR, but the reminiscences are still there.
Joes point is mainly how impactful an album is makes it classic. MBDTF is my fav Kanye but College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation are definitely classics because of the impact.
If you're talking about impact solely then that makes Yeezus a classic...that album pretty much birthed an entire new sub-genre. All the distorted beats and the heavy 808s pretty much are part of every rapper coming out today.
Justin Rodriguez bruh that's 808s and Heartbreak that influenced artists like Drake, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi etc. Is 808s a classic? No, but it was very influential to the future of hip hop/ RnB we will be seeing in next decade after the albums release.
Liam Nguyen You clearly didn't read my comment, or understand it, at least. I'm saying Yeezus is influential to today's rappers (I clearly said "if you're talking about impact solely" so it has nothing to do with it being a classic, I'm saying it would only be that way if it was ONLY based on Impact and I gave Yeezus as an example) are blowing up and using distorted beats, etc. in their music like xxxtentacion, Trippie Redd, Lil Uzi, Rich the Kid, Famous Dex, and Playboi Carti. All artists blowing up and using that type of sound in their music. Not to say that Kanye invented that or anything.
CheesecakeLasagna I know but that’s not my point, 808s is 11 years old and the game are using its sound, if that ain’t before its time and a timeless classic idk what is
"You ain't givin' me a fuckin' thing - i *took* it, nigga." Joe killin' me, man. _Everyday Struggle_ is the best thing to happen to Complex since Sean Evans. This series is providing great content. This my favourite video series next to HHDX's _Breakdown_, N.O.R.E. & EFN's _Drink Champs_. Shout out DEHH, Genius, Quint, and even Fantano too (grown on me) - gotta show love.
Kanye's albums starting with College Dropout to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy are *Certified Classics*, they sonically are such creative and diverse outings that shaped the following Hip-Hop Generation. We live in a music space where 80s & Heartbreaks has a arguably larger descendant tree than any Jay-Z album in terms of Inspiration. I think Jay-Z and Kanye West are both Legends in their own rights, but Kanye has touched so many more & will remain eternal in those projects I just listed.
New Royal. I got 4 Reasonable doubt, vol 2, Blueprint, Black Album, and while American Gangster wasn't his best lyrically the production on that album was amazing.
Bro WTF?? joe said he needed 5-10 years to see if it was a classic. IT HAS BEEN 7 YEARS SINCE MBDTF DROPPED AND NOW HE IS SAYING THAT IT ISN'T A CLASSIC BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT IT WHEN IT DROPPED?!!?
Such an inconsistent argument; you're not going to convince me that GKMC needed 5-10 years for it's classic status to be actualised. He was also mad because Jay Z in his 20 years only had 3 classics, but people were saying that kanye in a 12 year period could eclipse that; basically insinuating that someone could not pull off that feat in such a short time: 1. Kanye is the GOAT for that exact reason 2. Outkast dropped 3 classics in a row but no old heads will ever raise that point because it is from their golden generation and it would highlight once again the inconsistencies in Budden's arguments.
MoRico27 Ambition, def' Attention Deficit, Album About Nothing are classics of Wale. I swear, if Wale dies, stupid haters and motherfuckers gonna start opening their ears and realize how much of an emcee Wale is. Its sad, Wale is one of few black mainstream under rated rappers who tries to follow in 2pac's footsteps. Wale is Nigerian, he studied his history if he raps about the system, and his race's history, people can say Pac and Wale are somewhat similar. The song Black is Gold, nigga, thats lowkey the modern day Keep Ya Head Up, BUT NOBODY KNOWS THAT SONG BECAUSE MOTHERFUCKERS LIKE DJ AKADEMIKS DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT WALE. (In my Joe Budden angry, yelling voice)
Basically, Akademiks is right, Budden is wrong. Budden is louder and angrier, so he appears right. Most people disagree with him going in, so he's handicapped as is. But he's not convincing a single soul of anything. Especially if he thinks Graduation had more influence and impact on the genre than Dark Fantasy. Also, his 808s rant was borderline incoherent.
Chi Ezike “YoU DoNt KnoW HiP hOp” Stfu it don’t matter what you or Budden think, the majority of people who listened to the album know its a classic, and would say it’s even better than TCD

you could say the same about late registration
He actually rapped the best on Late Registration but twisted fantasy was his best produced album
Joe’s logic is that you’re not allowed to have over 3 classic albums in hip hop
Right lol
Jay z does
1: Reasonable Doubt
2: The Blueprint
3: The Black Album
4: Vol 2
5: 4:44
Akademiks dead ass look like the frog meme

MBDTF Is 100% a classic what the fuck
Adam 1 yo mamma
It's a good record, not a classic
Junie Gyllenhaal no it's definitely a classic. The album was incredible
Adam 1 lmao the last 3 songs were garbage, and all of the lights was trash. Plus......he don't write raps
Junie Gyllenhaal you did not just say All of the Lights, Blame Game, and Lost in the World are garbage 😂 plus Who will Survive in America was more of an outro than anything
Kanye hands down.
Ak saying Graduation isn’t a classic album is WILD.
Ak the type of guy to say that anything that is actually amazing is overrated. AK is bad for the culture.
7:58 Akademiks looks like he wants to cry LMAO
Jessi Villafuerte But Yeezus and Pablo arent his greatest albums. Theyre good, but not classics.
LikeMike294 they’re very innovative albums that don’t sync with current music trends but will stand the test of time.
I can listen to all (99%) kanye music all day
This! I thought Yeezus was Kanye’s worst album, that shit is crazy truly an amazing body of work. Shit, even Ye is great. Kanye does not have a single bad album. Period.

Maxxad TV real shit i listen to the old heads for the culture that i didnt get to live
Maxxad TV Me too, this shit is like 'Inside The NBA' for hip hop. you have a vet and a young cat talking about hip hop with two different perspectives.
Century SAM Exactly man, true. Great idea to do this show
Maxxad TV Hell yeah...I wasn't even a fan of him before musically but love his insight and love for the culture. He's funny as hell too...lol.
Maxxad TV to bad hes an arrogant prick
Kanye created 5 classic albums in 6 years. He literally has the perfect discography that every artist dreams of, and strives towards. Everything from The College Dropout to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is literal perfection. I'd break it down as, Kanye is the better artist, while Jay is by far the better rapper. 💯
PHXNTXM Kendrick has a perfect album discography 2 great albums and 2 soon-to-be classics
PHXNTXM how is 808 perfect in your opinion I couldn't listen to it
ash k section 80 not a soon to be classic?
PHXNTXM funny how you say he has a perfect discography even though his last 2 albums were complete trash 😂😂
But at the same time all of the albums you mentioned are over a decade old while MBDTF is only 7 years old so those albums have time on its side
Not to say that Kanye invented that or anything.
mike sonko that’s the whole point hat Joe was saying. An album needs time to be evaluated as a classic
MBDTF was a dope album definitely kanye's best work

And 808’s is more relevant than ever while travis scott is the biggest artist
@@georgefaux2154 but I reckon Travis would probably be forgotten in years to come, Kanye not.

Like how i feel about HHDX, i feel like the publications should keep it strictly video-based, because it's clearly working for them. This my favourite video series next to HHDX's _Breakdown_, N.O.R.E. & EFN's _Drink Champs_. Shout out DEHH, Genius, Quint, and even Fantano too (grown on me) - gotta show love.
Also, I can argue anyone here over TM101, Illmatic, Graduation, The Blueprint, Get Rich Or Die Trying are all classics period.
shout out young Jeezy
People sleep on the black album
Still to this day 1 of the best videos on the internet!! Complex really dropped the bag with Joe and his entertainment value....

MBDTF is second only to college dropout, def a classic
yes ainsley
EzSkinsEzLife disagree. MBDTF covers more ground than TCD does in less tracks. TCD is still amazing though but MBDTF is a whole other level
my personal favorite is MBDTF but the influence and uniqueness of TCD is unrivaled imo
Bro WTF?? joe said he needed 5-10 years to see if it was a classic.
He was also mad because Jay Z in his 20 years only had 3 classics, but people were saying that kanye in a 12 year period could eclipse that; basically insinuating that someone could not pull off that feat in such a short time:
1. Kanye is the GOAT for that exact reason
2. Outkast dropped 3 classics in a row but no old heads will ever raise that point because it is from their golden generation and it would highlight once again the inconsistencies in Budden's arguments.
it's been 7 years??
damn I feel old
Watching this video over 5 years later takes me back to simpler times.
Kanye has 3 classics college dropout late reg and my beautiful dark twisted Fantasy
Graduation and 808 s
His first 5
Wale hurt AF right now. Nigga work his tail off and nobody mentions him among classics. lol
MoRico27 😂😂
facts 😂
MoRico27 he trash
Benjamin Penney He ass cheeks.
@Chi Ezike lool stfu
he never even explains why said songs are bad
Chi Ezike “YoU DoNt KnoW HiP hOp” Stfu it don’t matter what you or Budden think, the majority of people who listened to the album know its a classic, and would say it’s even better than TCD
But Graduation is god
Akademiks destroyed him
Graduation is a classic for sure!
