I know a lot of keyboardists who love the sounds of Analog Lab and V Collection but aren't tech heads and don't want to lug a laptop and interface (or troubleshoot them) for live rig. This is going to crush it for them, as well as quite a few traveling producers or session folks.
yes this thing is specially designed for them (and them only sadly)
@@valdir7426 the rest of us have KeyLabs etc. to do our thing. Coming from a job that makes products, I know a well managed and designed product with an audience beats one trying to be everything to everyone.
And as if fate was trying to prove the point... turns out one of the keyboardists I gig with just ordered one. 😂 I can GAS by proxy now.
If I have one criticism, it would be that at this price it should provide at least 8 channels of multi timbral of MIDI access
As a creator I couldn’t agree more! Looking forward to using this primarily as a way to quickly put together song ideas. I plan on taking it to some gigs as the up top synth and pair it with one of my hammer action stage pianos on the bottom. Either Nord Grand or CP88 depending on the venue and the band I’m with that night.
Sounds stellar - Please consider a 88 key version or as a module to be controlled from another keyboard. BR, Martin
came for the astrolab, stayed until the end for the wonderful playing.
another great demo Matt. I thought the rhodes and wurli very convincing!
Organ sounded more M1 than Hammond to me but need to experiment with the settings.
Synth sounds spectacular as you would expect from Arturia.
Great demo, thanks!
Someday my KEYBOARD will come.....very nice usage of Someday My Prince Will Come :)
THIS! OMG I love the play of him.
bravo!
I have a plethora of analog and digital synths, many of which allow me to tailor and create patches of entirely my own making.
That aside, I bought an Astrolab, because I wanted something I could just turn on and start making new melodies. The Astrolab has not disappointed, it sounds spectacular, it feels great, and it's so well built.
I love my Astrolab.
You head me when you played Learning to live
If i only could play :) I love the idea to have an Origin 2 light...
Sound phenomenal and it can;t get more versatile.
So, much of the V Collection is here but not all of it. As a V Collection owner I would need parity there and a discount for already having V Collection to be compelled to buy this. Nice keyboard though, it has promise for sure.
what do you mean by not all of it?
All of it is there, just not mellotron but there's mellotron samples in the sampler.
Still been unable to find info on polyphony etc but this has all potential to be a game changer.
And for those who complain about the price… it’s the same pricepoint as significantly more limited stage pianos from other manufacturers…
I think this could be a home run for arturia if they pay their cards right with updates etc. And if just have a good iphone/ipad app to adjust parameters etc that could work like a larger screen for the device etc it would leave the competition in the dust.
download the manual, you will find great info about polyphony ;-)
@@rcmusic35 I found out from elsewhere that it ranges from ~8 - 40 voices depending on patch. It’s not great but not a show stopper either… I’m used to VA synths such as the hydrasynth which is almost in the same price range… only has 8 voices of polyphony and only does a fraction of what pigments can do.
@@FluffyAnvil Voice Count per Instruments:
1:
Buchla Easel V, Synthi V
8:
CZ V, DX7 V, Emulator V, Jun-6 V, Jupiter-8 V, Mellotron V, Modular V, OB-Xa V, Pigments,
Vocoder V
12:
Matrix 12 V
16:
ARP 2600 V, CMI V, CS-80 V, Mini V, Prophet-5 V, Prophet-VS V, SEM V, Synclavier V
48:
B-3 V, Clavinet V, Farfisa V, Piano V, Solina V, Stage 73 V, Vox V
These are voices per part, meaning that if you load, for example, a Multi consisting of a Mini V and Prophet-5 V, you can play 16 voices on each part.
@@FluffyAnvil i agree, people will realize this shortly and those who own V-collection 9 will take advantage of full editing on computer then back to the astrolab standalone!!
@@rcmusic35 Yes, I’m really regretting buying a Yamaha MODX+ 6 a few months ago now…
Having such a bank of classic sounds is amazing, but I’m still not convinced by its design for a stage. There were many missing features (drawbars, synth controls, effects, weighted keys, 73 and 88 models…). It’s a big step forward in terms of bringing vintage and classic keyboards in one place, though.
Then it would cost 1500€ more.
Any updates on Keylab mk3 Pro, eagerly waiting...😊
Nice one Matt! :)
The name of the piece at 10:00 is at the tip of my tongue and it's driving me nuts ... Who here knows what it is?
Radiohead - Everything In Its Right Place.
@@DamianMellor Thanks!
Are these the same sounds in Analog Lab or all these exclusive to the Astrolab? Those synths sound great!
The upper panel design is slick in picture, but the full keyboard and size from this video just feel like a casio keyboard to me.
This video should show the names of each of the presets presented and link to the sound store so people can buy them if they don't already have them.
I believe all the presets he played are onboard of the AstroLab. It has over 1000 onboard presets.
@@briandolson2941 Hello, we will update the UA-cam description today with the list of all presets.
@@ArturiaOfficial That's a great idea ; ) Thank you!
I'm guessing this is some intentional planned obsolescence trick on Arturia's part and they will soon after offer a "plus" or "pro" model with things the base model should have had to begin with. You all missed a huge opportunity by not putting faders on that empty left side that's clearly too small for a laptop to be placed. The missing faders is even a bigger deal when going after the stage keyboard domain while including organs whose drawbars need that real time control on stage with real time synth controls of multiple parameters (cs-80, etc) especially with such few knobs and encoders, less than your budget midi keyboards. Not a bad first dive-in but taking plugins and putting them in an intentionally limited keyboard where you essentially need the laptop and another midi keyboard to get the most out of them seems very redundant and at the price point this kind of planned obsolescence is pretty greedy to say the least.
Exactly, and if it's a laptop/iPad space, repeat after me Mr. Product Designer - "Control to the left, companion computer or tablets to the right", just look at how these things are used, which hands are used for what, etc. and you'll get it one day!👍🏻
How can you control the dragbars for the vox, hammond and farfisa sounds?
with a midi controller (usb or midi)
With your mind... And Wish this "stage keyboard", had the controllers on the left side to start with, so you could change the "drawbars" while actually playing!
@@jfn467 Brightness macro knob controls all drawbars for organs.
It would be better with drawbars for organs. It lacks control for synths.
knobs.. guess why the drswbars are designed the way they are...
Looks great but as we know Arturia next year they will have a better version with better screen more encoders more cpu and and and and… or maybe they make a groovebox out of it with sequencer and Ableton link ❤ I mean everybody has keyboard already
For the price, I'll stick to my DAW and Samples... or search some pawn shops! Peace
6:46 nice Dream Theatre
Where's Keylab 88 mk3?
Good question
Sounds good, but that small circular display... 🤨
🤔
Like a mpc keys 61 but without a complete daw in it, no touch screen and so on. Bring the plugins to the stage. Cool for sure, but should have been $1200-1300 instead. I think this is a bit of a mistake from Arturia. Better to sell many units at lower price than a lot less at a higher price. But we'll see.
It looks better than it sounds
It‘s just a walk through the last 50 years of electronic instruments, nothing else. I have all this sounds in my computers.
a kidney and a limb? how cheap
Hahahaha. ROFL!
No Poly after was a big miss.
no one cares about that, only synth nerds
@@lacroustinette5299 Good response ! Real musicians like or not to play with a synth, and it has nothing to do with absurd technical details like polyphonic aftertouch.
Where is my JD-800 😢😢😢
Nice but not 2k nice. Overpriced for what it is.
it's 1400 on Thomann
people will spend 8K+ on stupid analog synths that do a saw wave.
Clearly, I don't get it. What does this modern keyboard offer that I couldn't do with a $300-$400 Casio keyboard from 10 years ago????
looks nice, but it sounds a little bit 'plastic' :/
that means nothing
Hahahaha joke of the year!! "stage keyboard"? Seriously! Great concept with hardware running your instruments, but for the next version, have a chat with a bunch of "stage keyboard"' users before you start the design stage...
what would you miss?
WHy?
knobs on the wrong side, no direct access to patches (keypad) on the fly, inconsistent polyphony and split/layer strategy (try piano+strings in layer and play with sustain pedal, and on top of that, now you don't have any more parts... no bass/effect synth at the same time in a split...). Tiny mini screen with no overview of what's going on... No drawbars (why?), anything more?
@@jfn467 okay; seems you have specific expectations for this kind of product; I respect that; I had no idea organ drawbars were such a big deal, neither that having that many parts for a live instrument could be a big deal (beyond 4 I really fail to see the point though, two hands/two layers). The drawbar problem can be solved with a specific controller, and as for the layering that's really not something I do for live instruments (more for composition) but a tool like pigments already has several engines running so you can have a sample and synth sound at the same time this way (among other; the synclavier has 12 parts for example). same for the augmented series.
I feel like there's a big market around people already using V collection in the studio or on stage, and from my perspective of playing keyboard on stage a lifetime ago with a laptop, a midi keybaord and NI plugins this was pretty much perfect for my needs (I used splits but for single layer so no problem there). Also 4 knobs is probably alright but just having 4 knobs for a synth envelope would probably have been nice.
I think their selling point from their POV is they went as minimalistic as they could for the interface and basically designed a preset machine (from this POV drawbars don't make much sense) that anybody can use with a vast variety of sounds; but you're certainly right that working more on ergonomics with pro stage keyboard user would have been smart. It's a peculiar device, that fall in a weird category between people who want a stage keyboard and synth nerds who want access to all the parameters (both will be disapointed); still I think it will sell well.
Question is, would they sell more or less of it, if they had considered some of the things I pointed out... 😊
$2,000 for 61 keys, itty bitty screen, no mpe, sliders, wireless connection (accurate Bluetooth without being tethered to usb-c cable) or touch screen? Nah, I’m good.
You posted this same exact comment on the other video. We heard u the first time buddy.
I see it 1600$ everywhere....
lol
@@youngjdet Good. I hope Arturia and other keyboard makers hear it, also!
