More of a casual NBA fan. What are the Cavs drinking that made them such a force this season? I still can't believe how well they are playing a couple months into the season.
An offense predicated on movement/cutting, staggering Garland/Allen and Mitchell/Mobley so that one of those 2 duos are almost always on the court, and they pretty much always blow out teams by the 3rd JB was good for building up the culture/foundation of the team, they needed an X's and O's guy like Atkinson to take them to the next level. He also overestimate Caruso’s impact in a series. Isaac Okoro can handle him. And I expect the Cavs to acquire a reliable back-up center before the trade deadline.

The thing is SGA is better than any player the Cavs have. Chet is a better player than Mobley. Chet is a better shooter, better defender and blocks more shots. JDUB is “maybe” just as good on offense as Mitchell and Garland. He is definitely better than both of them on defense. That makes him a better all around player. He definitely out played both Mitchell and Garland in this game on both offense and defense. Hartenstein and Allen almost cancel each other out. Only reason Allen won this matchup was because IHart had to battle to bigs by himself. Dort is a better defender than anyone the Cavs have and that Thunder have all the better defenders and offensive players. SGA better than anyone the Cavs have, Chet better than Mobley and Allen as far as bigs go. JDUB arguably better than both Mitchell and Garland outplayed both on their own home floor and his defense is much better than both. Offense is about the same or a little less but because of his defense that puts him ahead. Cavs do not have any high level defenders like OKC has. Chet makes a huge difference with his shooting, defense and shot blocking.
Cavs use of the high p&r absolutely decimated the Thunder defense, and Mobley is tailor made to be the perfect player for this action. Meanwhile KA made a master call in crunch time as he went to the zone every other possession down the stretch. Completely threw SGA off his game and forced multiple turnovers leading to extra shots for CLE when it mattered most. Dort focusing so much on Mitchell was exactly what Cleveland was hoping for, and it allowed ideal matchups for the bigs out of the high pick.
They only could get away with it because Thunder were undersized. Once Chet comes back they’ll be much better equipped to take away that 2-man game from Allen and Mobley

More and more bigs can screen, catch and pass in fluid motion like the Joker this season. Soon, more of them will be able to shoot the 3s more consistently. We’re seeing another evolution of NBA
The garland and mitchell combo is just too much for most teams.. especially with how shifty and unpredictable they are.. and how much shooters they are surrounded by..or.. just how well they can shoot from the logo THEMSELVES. then you have an insane big combo with mobley and allen inside... okc with chet and caruso would def make a big difference. Caruso could switch onto mitchell sometimes or even garland. Chet could help against the bigs.. still cant say who has the edge in this matchup when all are healthy.. but the cavs lowkey seem more scary because of how unpredictable they are this year with the new coaching. Nobody knows what they will go to.

Both teams were able figure out how to guard their super stars, SGA kept seeing help from the bigs and Dort was able to stay out of foul trouble while staying in front of Spida. But both teams were able to move the ball and show off their depth with many teammates making plays. The Thunder definitely have issues without Chet and only one big man against teams like CLE and MIL as long as the big men can make shots and make passes. Both teams can make shots and can play defense. Even though it ended up being a 7 pt game at the end, it was competative and is the kind of play that was good to watch. Both teams have aggressive attacks and don't run too much motion like some of the other top teams. They can move the ball side to side and attack directly too.
@@bballbreakdown my guess is that it mainly has to do with not having enough practice time to work line ups against two bigs. J Will is one of the main subs for Hartenstien and probably is in most of the time in that role. Also he's not that tall in reach and doesn't really give that much of an advantage protecting the rim. But you are right in that he's a great team defender and gives a better chance on the defensive boards especially late in games. He's also a pretty good ball mover and corner shooter. I also think Daginault likes having at least 4 players who have the foot speed advantage to generate straight line fast breaks to the basket on steals and long rebounds, so I can see why some of the faster wings play with Hartenstien so can just get boards and look for color running the other way. If this was the finals and they had time to work both of them into schemes and coverage counters, I'm sure they'd play a few minutes together in crunch time
with chet the thunder WIPE the cavs. cavs might make it to ECF but they’ll get wiped by the C’s. they just don’t match up with the depth those teams have nor the star power

Celtics will indeed find it hard to go against CLE in the playoffs with the size disadvantage, but I think Mitchell will do them harm with his bad shot selection. I think CLE bigs are not that physical enough to stop the Celtics in the paint and dominate the boards. On a 7 game series, I still put my money on the Cs

Celtics yes, Nuggets absolutely not. Thunder have a year of playoff experience under their belts plus they added to guys with plenty playoff experience in IHart and Caruso. Thunder are head and shoulders above any team in the west.
