Hello Mary Montgomery, You're welcome! Great job! I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on the repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
This video is priceless for some of us office dudes that are too cheap to call a plumber. After having a leaky shower faucet for over a year I feel like I can fix this over the weekend. Just have to find the right allen wrench and grab my channel locks out of the tool box. Thanks for sharing your plumbing knowledge.
Hello stringbender11672; You are more then welcome and thanks for the kind words! I am glad the repair went well for you! Quite often you can get away with just the springs and washers. Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Hello Knox; You are more then welcome! Always better in your pocket then someone else's. Delta has a very good warranty and have been around for many years. Excellent company! Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
I wanted to comment and tell you thank you for showing us how to take apart the valve cartridge and replace the seals instead of replacing the entire cartridge because not all of them are available at the home improvement stores and this save me so much time and money not having to call a plumber or wait on a new part to come in the mail I didn’t even know the cartridges came apart till I seen you video. This made you clip much better then the others I watched thank you very much
Hello sceedro82, You're welcome! Springs and washers generally resolve the problem. As long as your water is not full of minerals you should have no worries. Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
I had a delta shower faucet leaking and was able to fix it by watching this video. The cartridge cost 75 $ but at Canadian Tire the springs were about 5$. It put in 2 springs and faucet stopped leaking. Thanks a lot for this video. It was very helpful.
Great instructions! I fixed my dripping shower head in under an hour. A 4.99 pack of new springs and washers did the trick. Without finding a how to guide I probably would have replaced the whole internal unit.
Thank you for this video. Just saved me a trip to the hardware store and $40. I took apart the faucet as in the video but instead of buying new springs and washers I cleaned the assembly and stretched out the springs slightly by hand. Put it all back together and not 1 drop. Before I had a steady stream of water leaking (not just drops). Again Thank you!
Fast forward to 2024, I contacted Delta, actually the website directs you to Masco Canada, and they now state that this is normal wear and tear and no Warranty support. Thank-you for your video, I'll try and get the new springs and rubbers. My faucet is 16 yrs old and looks exactly like the one in your video.
Hello maniacmike56, You're welcome! That's good to know. I appreciate the update! Hopefully the job goes well and the springs and rubber inserts work for you! Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
@@TheOldkid888 Well, it did'nt go well. Stripped the Allen key screw. I took my time and pepared. I put CLR and got it clean, then some penetrating fluid for an hour. I got the screw to move a couple of times, but the top is stripped now. handle is a little bit loose, but oh well.
Great video, thanks! Worked like a charm. I'd emphasize turning the water off first at the house - I didn't, and it was quite a show when I pulled the cartridge out. I was able to contain the flood, but it'd be easy to flood out a room or tub if not prepared. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for putting your video on UA-cam. I fixed my shower leak per your video instructions without a hitch. I would not have know how to get started without your video.
This video was very helpful. I bought both the entire part for $50 and the spring and washed for $2. Spring and washer worked. Getting refund d on the other. Thx for video.

Hello Abolit, You're welcome! The full cartridge replacement should repair the leak for you! Hope everything works out well! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
Thanks for the video- saved me a bunch. $4.97 repair kit vs. $39 cartridge! Hardest part was digging the packed dirt/mud from the water cut-off @ the water tap!
Ann Conner I am glad it went well for you! That can be the hardest part for sure when it comes to making a repair! Bonus side is you will be able to turn the water off if you have an emergency now! Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Great job, while searching for repair I watched, another video, it was terrible and the guy was more of a hack than a repairmen, you obviously know your stuff and are out to help everyone
Thank you for making this video! I really appreciate the added info about the temperature setting gauge ( I didn't even know that existed until i watched your video)! 😌
Hello Jaclyn773, You're welcome! Always nice to set the temp on the faucet as it is a great safety feature as well in preventing a serious burn to children should they be getting a shower and turn the handle themselves. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Thanks a ton. i was inserting the front part of the cartrige in first before snapping it to the other half and water would work for a day and then not turn off. for the last 5 days, daily. lol. your video showed me how i installed it wrong.
@@TheOldkid888 I wound up getting a new cartridge and installing it. No drips and lots of hot water. The client was pleased. So was I. I learn primarily visually and by doing. Seeing this happen was a real blessing. I feel like an expert now. Thanx, again.
Hello Jay, You're welcome! Can't go wrong with a new cartridge. Generally the biggest problem is removing the set screw on the handle. That depends on the amount of minerals in the water for the most part. So they can be a bit touchy at times. I have had a few put up a good fight, but they eventually lost the battle. Congrats on the repair! Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Great video, the statement about using just enough pressure on the wrench and going around is. Great. Struggled for an hour before seeing the video and that was the tip that did it. Thank you.

Hello JefSmith, You're welcome! I am glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on the repair in record time I may add! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
TheOldkid888 I think there is an issue. After reinstalling everything my shower won't stop running. I think I had to turn off the water all night. Do you know what I may have done wrong?
TheOldkid888 yes. I made sure I took pictures before and after. Whether it's on the off position or the on position it just keeps flowing. If I take it all apart and put washers and springs back in, it works as expected, but after turning on and off a few times it's like it looses compression and it sprays out like crazy
Are you certain they are delta springs and washers? You want the package or kit to say Delta on it. Compare them to the old ones to make sure if you still have them. Different size springs are used for different faucets. It is generally a simple fix. Remove the old springs and washers, replace and you are all set.
Hello Car-Lo You're welcome! Generally that is all that is needed. I am glad the repair went well for you! Congrats! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
Just changed my washer and spring due to a leak. Your video really helped! Just wanted to thank you for doing this awesome video and yes no more leaking from shower head!
Nice. This video shows a squeaky clean shiny new valve interior and all new parts. Usually you will be trying to pull a valve that's been in place for 20 years. The allen screw will be buried under a layer of water deposits, the big nut will be frozen in place by mineral deposits, and the inside of the brass valve body will be full of corrosion that prevents a good seal with the new cartridge. in the real world, be prepared to use a lot of corrosion buster chemicals and acidic cleaners like CLR to get the thing apart. I usually end up using a slide hammer to pull the cartridge out, and I use large and small flexible polishing balls to polish the inside of the valve body before inserting the cartridge. Also note that aftermarket cartridges not made by Delta will often cause water hammer. Hey the job can be done, but usually not as easily as shown here.
+Gary Keene As you probably are aware of, everything depends on water quality. I have had difficulty with some faucets while others came apart as if they were new. Every faucet is different in some little way when it comes to making the repair, but it can be done. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
I just went through this nightmare. The water at the job site is loaded with minerals, looks kinda like clam chowder. The shower head had been dripping on the faucet for 20+ years. Long story short, the faucet body twisted apart. Had to replace the whole thing. Took the valve body back to the shop. Had to put it in a vice and use a pipe wrench to get it apart. The cartridge came out in pieces. Not doing one of these again.
Yep, the hex screw on mine is so stuck I tried to drill it out. Then the drill bit broke and the tip is stuck in the hex nut beyond my reach. Time to bring out the hacksaw :(
Outstanding video, it helped me tremendously to remove a stuck cartridge. I was able to see from this video, I could use a flat head screwdriver to removed my stuck cartridge by gently prying the back of the cartridge.
Great video! Thanks for the tip about calling Delta to get a warranty replacement of the cartridge. I just did and mine will be here in a few days. Will definitely be referencing this video when it comes time to do the work.
Hello Chaim Goldberger, Thanks! You're more than welcome! I am glad it went well for you and congrats on the repair! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
Thanks so much for uploading this. I was skittish about opening the faucet up but your tutorial really helped. No more suffering with cold water! Thanks again man!
Thanks, this tutorial video inspired me to attempt to fix it myself, which I did -- and saved $450 (the plumber's estimate for parts and labor to replace the valve).
Thank you for taking the time to make this video-it is AWESOME!!. I rebuilt my Delta shower cartridge in just minutes with no problems with no more leaking for just pennies on the dollar. I am happy, and most importantly, my wife is happy! Thank you!

Thank you very much!!! I wanted to learn to make my water hotter and fix any future drips, and this video covered it all. Very thorough and clear explanation! Thanks again!
Hello Leon; You are more then welcome and thanks for the kind words! That is the nice part about youtube; passing on experience. It is a great learning tool! Thank for commenting and congrats on the repair! Al
after watching this video the actual repair was so easy it's ridiculous! Installed a complete cartridge from HDepot. We have very hard water so I squirted WD40 on the "nut" first and let it soak in for several hours before I even tried to remove it- it then came right off. I forgot to set the max hot water setting to match the old one, so removed the new cartridge, set it correctly and reinstalled. The most time consuming step is letting all the water drain out of the pipes/valve body and cleaning out deposits, etc inside. Not counting WD40 step and cleaning out deposits, it's about a 2 minute job - just as shown in the video.
Hello Ed; I am glad the repair went well for you! You are correct with the amount of time it takes to make the repair... Biggest thing can be removing the set screw and a little lubricant can make all the difference in the world. Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Hello Neptune730, You are more than welcome! That's what I would call a seriously leaking pipe. Glad you were able to make the repair! Sand can cause serious problems. Make sure you purge the lines well! A good place to do that is an outside hose bib. Let it run for a bit. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al
Biggest help? The reminder that Delta will replace the cartridge and ship it for free! Much better than the $40 or so from Lowes or HD. I'll rewatch this in 7-10 days when my cartridge gets here.
Even though my Delta is a slightly different model, this was all i needed to get the leaky faucet that was driving me crazy fixed. I was also able to get the faucet to flow hotter water, which had been driving my wife crazy since the time it was originally installed by our plumber. 1 hr job, including running out to my local Lowe's. Great video! Thanks.
Hello Armand; I am glad the repair went well for you and congrats! Adjusting the hot water to the point where you like it makes grabbing a shower a little more pleasurable for sure. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
@TheOldkid888 Thanks a lot! I thought that it was a 1400 series, but I wasn't quite sure. I tried the new springs/cups but that didn't work. I will just pick up a new cartridge and be done with it. Thanks very much for your help. Your video is very informative. It will save me a $150 plumber visit!

Awesome video, best I've seen yet. My Delta shower faucet was just installed last month, but it is reversed as the cold is hot & hot is cold. Do I just take out the valve & turn it around? TY!
Your video was a great education for me. I had a shower faucet that wouldn't shut off, no matter which way the lever was turned. I removed the cartridge, flushed out the 12 years of "gunk" in the line, then reinstalled the cartridge, in hopes that would fix it. It did- no more water flow, but now the shower won't "turn on" (i.e. the valve won't open) no matter which way I turn it. Did I install it backwards?
Thank you very much. I had already changed springs and washers 7 years ago and I had completely forgotten how to do this. It's time to change them again. Do not know you could change the cartridge free?. Thanks.
Hello there; It usually is just a matter of pushing it directly into the faucet body. Sometimes it take a bit of force. If the o-rings are lubricated it should go in for you. Take a flashlight and make sure the inside of the faucet is clear of anything; perhaps a piece of o-ring from the old cartridge. Try forcing it in as best you can. It may require some bigger muscle to help you out, but normally it does not. You will probably save a few hundred dollars by diy. Best of luck! Al
Hello Jason; You are more then welcome! I am glad the WD 40 worked for you! The hardest part of the job can be the set screw that holds the handle on. Thanks for commenting and congrats on the repair! Al
Hello FixItPleaseJ, that could very well be possible. The ports are very small. I have found solder and pieces of screws in them over the years. Check the plate that the washers push up against. Mineral deposit can build up on the stainless plate and not allow the washers to fir firmly against the plate. Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
12 years later and you are still helping people with water leaks. Thank you! I will be trying it very soon.
Thank you. You helped this 69 year old lady to do this all by herself. I used a rubber strap wrench for the nut which made it easy.

Thank you for the video. Hope for most DIYers this trick would work but I was not that lucky - got to call Delta to have them ship the whole thing.
Hello Abolit,
You're welcome!
Ann Conner
I am glad it went well for you!
That can be the hardest part for sure when it comes to making a repair! Bonus side is you will be able to turn the water off if you have an emergency now!
Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
TheOldkid888 I followed direction exactly but the shower is still dripping. Could it be something else?
Great job, while searching for repair I watched, another video, it was terrible and the guy was more of a hack than a repairmen, you obviously know your stuff and are out to help everyone
Thank you for making this video! I really appreciate the added info about the temperature setting gauge ( I didn't even know that existed until i watched your video)! 😌
Hello Jaclyn773,
You're welcome!
Hello Kenny,
You're welcome!
I am glad everything worked out for you!
Congrats on that!
Thanks for commenting and wishing you the best in 2022! Al
I have to adjust one of these today. When I replaced the washer, nothing but cold came out. Thank you!
Hello Jay,

I hope the repair went well for you!

@@TheOldkid888 I wound up getting a new cartridge and installing it. No drips and lots of hot water. The client was pleased. So was I. I learn primarily visually and by doing. Seeing this happen was a real blessing. I feel like an expert now. Thanx, again.
Hello Jay,
You're welcome!
Thank you.
Thank you for the video, I repaired my bath faucet by replacing spring and seats costing only 5$
Hello Nasir Usman,

TheOldkid888 I think there is an issue. After reinstalling everything my shower won't stop running. I think I had to turn off the water all night. Do you know what I may have done wrong?
Hello
Is the handle in the same spot as before?
TheOldkid888 yes. I made sure I took pictures before and after. Whether it's on the off position or the on position it just keeps flowing. If I take it all apart and put washers and springs back in, it works as expected, but after turning on and off a few times it's like it looses compression and it sprays out like crazy
Are you certain they are delta springs and washers? You want the package or kit to say Delta on it. Compare them to the old ones to make sure if you still have them. Different size springs are used for different faucets.
It is generally a simple fix. Remove the old springs and washers, replace and you are all set.
Thanks for the video! Didn't have to buy the whole assembly just the two rubbers and springs. It solved my leaky tub faucet you mentioned.
Hello Car-Lo
You're welcome!
Generally that is all that is needed.
I am glad the repair went well for you! Congrats!

+Gary Keene
As you probably are aware of, everything depends on water quality.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one that had all this happen to....big time pain in the ass!
Thanks, Brotherman. Problem fixed fast and easier than expected due to your video.
Hello John,

Thanks so much for this video. I just got through with my showers after watching this. No more drip!
Outstanding video. Much better and more detailed than any other on youtube. Thanks for making it easy.
Thanks for a quick and simple "how to" video!
Hello Robbie,
You're welcome!
Best of luck with the repair!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video-it is AWESOME!!. I rebuilt my Delta shower cartridge in just minutes with no problems with no more leaking for just pennies on the dollar. I am happy, and most importantly, my wife is happy! Thank you!
WOW, and it is just that easy.
The repair took 3 minutes at best. Thank you for the walk through.

Which number did you call?
Thanks for the information on how to adjust the hot water temp. I was struggling with this one. Good job.
Thank You for the very informative video. I'm sure you've saved a lot of people a lot of grief....myself included.
Hello Leon;

That is the nice part about youtube; passing on experience. It is a great learning tool!
Thank for commenting and congrats on the repair! Al
This save me a lot of time. Very informative and useful. Many thanks
Many thanks,Al. Calm, concise directions.
soooooooooo much better than those ridiculous "expervillage" videos thanks!
after watching this video the actual repair was so easy it's ridiculous!
Hello Ed;
I am glad the repair went well for you!
You are correct with the amount of time it takes to make the repair...
Biggest thing can be removing the set screw and a little lubricant can make all the difference in the world.
Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al
Thanks for this vid! Helped me with my leaky delta faucet. So easy and quick to do...and inexpensive!
Hello Ryan,
You're welcome!
Glad you got along well with your repair!

Thanks for the vid. It helped me remember how it came apart to clean out the sand that got in there from a leaking pipe. 110 gals./Hour.
Hello Neptune730,
You are more than welcome!
That's what I would call a seriously leaking pipe.
Glad you were able to make the repair!
Sand can cause serious problems. Make sure you purge the lines well! A good place to do that is an outside hose bib.
Let it run for a bit.

Thanks for making/posting this - made the job super easy to do.

THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO TO LEARN TO REPLACE DELTA SHOWER VALVE
This was very helpful to my family and allowed us to fix a leak.
Thanks!
Hello Deeya;
You are more then welcome!
Congrats on the repair!

Thanks.
Hello Armand;
I am glad the repair went well for you and congrats!
Adjusting the hot water to the point where you like it makes grabbing a shower a little more pleasurable for sure.
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
Awesome video , I just fixed my faucet and for sure it saved me some money, thanks for sharing the video.
Perfect ! Thanks! Took 3 minutes!

Awesome video, best I've seen yet. My Delta shower faucet was just installed last month, but it is reversed as the cold is hot & hot is cold. Do I just take out the valve & turn it around? TY!
TheBriteyes50 The faucet I have is Delta Monitor 1300 series. Looks just like the one in the video - is it!
Did I install it backwards?
probably
Thank you very much. I had already changed springs and washers 7 years ago and I had completely forgotten how to do this. It's time to change them again. Do not know you could change the cartridge free?. Thanks.
Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge, this is the third one I’ve watched

Hello there;
It usually is just a matter of pushing it directly into the faucet body.
Al
Glad I could help. It is not difficult to change the temperature as you can see. Good luck with your project and thanks for your comment.
I had to spray a generous amount of WD-40 into the set crew hole to help dislodge the handle on a 7 year old Delta Monitor. Thanks for the video.
Hello Jason;
You are more then welcome!
I am glad the WD 40 worked for you! The hardest part of the job can be the set screw that holds the handle on.
Thanks for commenting and congrats on the repair! Al
Exactly what I wanted to know. That the cartridge is rebuildable. I suspect there are some iron pieces from the water mains plugging mine up. Thanks.
Hello FixItPleaseJ,
that could very well be possible. The ports are very small.
I have found solder and pieces of screws in them over the years.
Check the plate that the washers push up against. Mineral deposit can build up on the stainless plate and not allow the washers to fir firmly against the plate.
Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
