    I use my mousepad because literally all of the mice i use (optical or laser, cheap or expensive) don't seem to work AT ALL on any surface but a mousepad. Without the mousepad, the cursor just jumps around on the screen or gets stuck as if I were using a ball mouse. So, yes, I still need a mousepad.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 5 років тому +7

      That makes zero sense. Not working _optimally_ is much different than "not work AT ALL." I've never come across a optical/laser mouse that didn't work on pretty much every surface. From my bed sheets, to the top of my jeans, to the center console in my truck. They always work quite well. Not optional, but quite well.

    Sun workstations at university needed metal mousepads with grid printed on them. They would not track if the pad was not in the right orientation. SGI workstations had almost identical but incompatible pads, that would make you thin the mouse was broken if interchanged. Hilarity ensued when this was figured out and pads randomly exchanged. Pretty soon all mousepads were marked on the backside.

    Yes. My mouse feet got ruined when it wasn't on a mousepad. The regular wooden surface I had at the time scraped it up and flattened the rubber grip on the mouse(G502) and it is in a bad state. Then I got a mousepad and been fine ever since.

    I use a cheap, small mouse pad with a wrist rest that I removed from another mouse pad. I used tacks and super glue to keep them in place on my desk. Works wonderfully. Since it's small, I have to use a high mouse sensitivity, which is fine cause I enjoy turning a complete 180 with just a flick of my wrist.

    Can you make more interesting and important Tech Quickies.. like stuff people actually care about and could learn something new from.. like before.. this is becoming straight up stupid now..
    for example a subject that isn't very clear to me is CPU instructions & CPU instruction sets.. what are they? what are the most popular ones? what do they do?

      @greg8214 5 років тому +4

      This is a nice vid

    • @MultiPC01
      @MultiPC01 5 років тому

      Good example, why not answer those sort of quickies. In answer to your question though, a CPU Instruction is what it says, it is an instruction that is given to a Central Processor Unit, to perform an action. There are lots of many different instructions, but am example of a well used one would be mov a,b, which would tell the processor to move the contents of the b register into the a register. Hope this helps. 🙄

    • @Many_Mirrors
      @Many_Mirrors 5 років тому

      The video might not be bad.. I mean Linus rarely makes bad videos.. but do you really wake up in the morning and ask yourself "Do I still need to use a mousepad?"
      Did you ever ask yourself that? Even if you did, how important is it to know.. and how hard is it to answer that question yourself without watching a TechQuickie about it..

    • @Many_Mirrors
      @Many_Mirrors 5 років тому

      @Peter You see that seems really interesting.. I'm sure that would a fun video to watch.. Also a subject I'm even more interested in is Instruction Sets (those with the weird names) Linus did use to make those kind of videos back in the day... but now the videos are less related to the technology and computers.. I mean just look at the last few videos...
      "Why Do UA-cam Channels Die?"
      "iOS 12 Explained"
      And although there were a few interesting videos that weren't related to technology at all, I would still appreciate the old TechQuickie type of videos like:
      M.2 As fast as possible
      Core i3, i5, i7 Explained
      32 bit vs 64 bit
      What is Anti Aliasing (really educational video)
      What is HyperThreading
      VGA DP HDMI DVI differences...
      Be aware these are the most popular videos on the channel and are the ones people like the most.. I guess it just requires more work and research and that why they've stopped making those..
