Lil Mineral Spirits or Alcohol to soften before the dye. My dad taught me this and I did the seats and inner door panels on a 79 280ZX were I went all vinyl, blue to black. Had if for 4 years and never peeled or cracked.
It's all in the prep as I say. But, you don't sit on a door panel. Vinyl painted wear items like arm rests and of course seats will in time have the painted surface worn away then it'll need to be painted again, and again.
The seat is looking great to be honest I think it suits the bike well. I would definitely give the carbs a clean out with maybe new jets plus renew the oil in the forks plus new rear shock which probably haven't change from when the bike was made. That's just from experience from working on my own bikes
The sender unit in the radiator isn't the sensor, it's a thermal switch for the fan. The GPZ has 3 of them, one in the radiator, one in the thermostat housing (right side) and one in the oil pan. the 2nd one in the thermostat housing (rear) is the sensor for the gauge.
If you were not very worried about many other aspects of the build (particles in the clear coat, dents in the exhaust, etc) don't worry about the color of the seat vinyl. It's not meant to be a concours restoration and the cover itself is new and undamaged. It looks good enough.
Do some weekly live streams for viewers to ask u questions. Junkyard Dave dose one every Sunday for about a hr to chat with viewers about anything random it’s great. Video bob dose some random ones as well just to keep in touch with viewers on a more personal level with viewers. Makes for a better connection with people watching your videos. Especially smaller channels that have not a massive amount of people.
I’m rewatching your videos again to see if you mention paint codes for this bike. My friend is restoring one and is having trouble finding the true paint colors or where to buy it? Thanks for your help, Beautiful job👍
Shame that the seat wasn't the right colour, hopefully the spray worked well. It's starting to look reeaaaally good though, looking forward to seeing the finished product.
CV carbs need an airbox filter... So sad that such an origibal Gpz 900 R was modified, like that... I have one, 1984, for the last 20 years. Just the way the one you have used to be. Always dreamed of that bike, not because of the movie but, because she is part of motorcycle history. I hope you were able to adjust those carbs. Greetings from Brazil.
You could have hung it from a string or wire while painting instead of painting your arm. That and you can jury rig a paint booth with old sheets or cheap tarp from harbor freight.
You ain't lying about "Collectors" ruining the Automotive World. It's across the spectrum. Exotic and Muscle. I can understand that extremely rare car being in a museum but not every '71 Cuda Convertible was a Hemi. Not every '70 Nova was a Yenko. The few have driven the price of all through the roof. Why are VW Bugs so outrageous? They literally made MILLIONS of them almost all exactly the same. A little spit will help when you're working rubber "cushions" into place.
It's a hard lesson, but, people will yell at you no matter what you choose to do. Even if you choose to do nothing at all. This results in the only reasonable conclusion being: let them yell, if it makes them feel better. You've got stuff to do, right?
You should never use acid flux on electrical soldering connections. Acid flux is for plumbing only. If used on electrical connections, it causes corrosion and eventual failure of the connection. Only ever use rosin based flux for electrical soldering.

@@stevesmith6236 Did the seat too.... The method adds a deeper chemical bond
I will always know you painted the seat "This could be red" lol you know what i mean.

Fun build. Any idea on paint codes

I feel the need....the need for speed!

That's where that hose must be connected.

When you said next scene I got 2 ads... lmao
I hope a movie-correct sticker set is already in house! After done, collection or for sale?
Next video, yes! Also, neither.... I'm gonna ride it!!!!
if you let it sit for a few weeks in a dark room the vinyl dye will "soak in" and level out nicely and look good, nobody will be able to tell

100%!
Nice old GPZ. 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄🍺🍺🍺🍺😎😎😎😎
Bravo bud.
I dont think the color of the seat vinyl was horrible. But it seemed like it was going bother you endlessly.
Would have made me crazy! :)

Bummer about the seat color. I say if you asked for black, you should have taken it Bach. But I understand wanting to get the durn thing done.

Solder the wire to the top of the temp sensor :)
What's going to happen to the bike when it's complete? Garage Queen??
HUH? I'm gonna ride it. It's a darn bike....
Is that front tire tread rotating the correct direction?
Yes, but thank you for asking.
He did the seat in grey because he had grey in stock and would have had to order black. Forget what you want, he wanted to be lazy and cheap.
72nd 👍 thumbs up.
