Great video, wven 5 yrs later. Need an update on how many brine rigs ran now. Upgrades to think about. How do you keep brine storage tanks safe from theft?
Great information in this one. Great clean setup and I like how portable it seems to move in and out of the truck when not in use. Brian your killing it with the vids!
Great video Brian! Never a time to stop learning and it is great you both share your knowledge. Keep up the great work, we are looking forward to the spring!
Brian, I finally got 2 snow falls in a week. The snow tonight was a good 7 inches & still got a couple hours of snow yet. Plowed driveway with ATV & spent more time playing then plowing, fun times.
Awesome video with great info! I really wanted to get into the liquid game this year but, I just ran out of time. I also was hoping for more info like this and maybe some "action" vids that would also show results in different weather situations. Great stuff! Subscribing to Michaels channel now!
There’s a few action shots in a video we just posted on our Instagram. We will upload it to UA-cam shortly. Definitely need to do an awesome video with Brian and his drone though 👍
We invested in liquid salt a while back when a rock salt shortage came and I can say it works very well when applied correctly! There is a huge learning curve, put too much down and it's a huge waste, put too little down and freezes over just like a ice rink! We started and still have a 300 gallon electric unit with a Solterra pump 15gmp and like he said, it left us crawling through parking lots at 5-7mph, gas powered units are the way to go. I'd say in our experience you'll need to spend about 7-10k (gas powered unit, and a 3-5k gallon holding tank) to get started right. We started out with 300 gallon tote tanks then progressed to those tanks with electric shut off valves and now to the electric unit. My pans are to get the electric unit converted over to gas but need everything new except the tank and skid lol so about 2-3k! Taking a chance that salt will be available all season for us here in nwpa because we just bought a new Fisher Poly caster. Would love to talk to him though.
absolutely agree with him about the WD-40, I use spray di-electric grease the same way. Available at Menards stores. It's got better staying power than WD-40. I know Fluid Film is great, but it's $10.00 a spray can. Same treatment on every moving part on your snowplows.
If your into equipment set ups etc........2 Companies they don't have You tube that I know of but they have a ton of photos on their Facebook Pages as they have a ton of trucks etc....Check out Outdoor Pride and Ground Effects out of New Hampshire.. They have some nice stuff.......Outdoor Pride you name it they have it....From loaders to tandems to an old Gasoline Tanker that they turned into a hot water tank to wash stuff in the winter.........Brian as always great stuff.........
Bedell Property Management LLC I’m from the dexter MI area and currently work for a guy in the winter, I mean we get close to probably the same amount of snow if ur in the wixom area
Jack Strudgeon you’ll probably see a bit more annually - Ann Arbor typically sees 10”+ more than Wixom by the time Winter ends. There are some good companies to sub for in our area or you can find someone to do your salt - just like Brian has done 👍
hope to see more deicing info this year...thinking it might be an add on service. I have my applicators license for weed applications, and now im wondering if I can use the same unit for deicing driveways and small parking lots. Run a lawn biz and looking for additional services. thanks!
Bedell Property Management LLC the one I want is an older model. 95 GMC 3500HD with a dump bed and only 49k miles. It's already outfitted with a boss plow mount with no blade. And it's 2wd
Lamont Hairston wow that’s really low mileage! if you have enough weight in the bed that might be ok - our sites have a lot of grade changes and truck bays so 4WD was really our only option. I hope the truck works awesome for you!
instead of having a gas powered pump just run a signal wire from the upfitter switch to a solenoid and then run heavier gauge wire directly from the battery to the solenoid and then to the pump. this will allow you to get the amperage you need to run a bigger pump
Pistol Pete good advice. If the gas powered pump goes out (and it eventually will) this is something to consider. Getting out of the truck to start the gas engine for each site/fill up can get a little old. Thanks for watching!
That happened here in Rochester NY and one of the biggest salt mines is 40 min away it wents from 60 a ton to 145 a ton in one day! That happened and the higher companies decided to get their own salt barns. That helps everyone cuz they can sell it to eveyone. Does he kicked his own calcium? That's funny the suppliers are the opposite here there one big salt supplier and no liquid suppliers here you have to have your own tanks to get filled.
Brandon Garbacz we did the same thing! Our prewet system is a slightly modded spray unit from Tractor Supply Co. that at end of day prices out to about what you mentioned. With a little ingenuity, anyone can add a prewet system to their setup at a fraction of current price offerings of the big name brands. Excellent point! Brian and I may have to do a video on this 👍
Brandon Garbacz that’s neat to hear how you all banded together. Hopefully we all see more reasonable prices for next Winter. I don’t make my own calcium chloride and though there aren’t many suppliers, the few that exist are really good, down to earth people. I can get a delivery next day with only a1000 gallon minimum 👍
Bedell Property Management LLC yea I can get a tanker truck next day too but it has to be a full like 3k gallons I think I only use it to prewet so I just mix my own. Make it in 55 gallon drums.
Bedell Property Management LLC yea I just used the spray Tips for fertilizer fron tractor supply and one of their 35 gallon tanks, and a pump from Amazon! It's awesome
Anything about putting a plow on a zero turn? I know it sounds funny but I would like to get into snow removal in the neighborhood. I don’t know if I should put a plow on a zero turn or get a single stage snow blower? Any thoughts would be great
Noah Crooker the whole industry is waiting for that answer, I feel. There’s a few ideas out there but they either aren’t super effective or it’s a stand alone unit which costs as much as a mower. Until then, you’ll notice most guys stick to plows and $500 snow blowers. Maybe an ATV here or there but thats about it
Lots of great info from Mike. It’d be a lot easier to listen to if he were to learn how to speak in sound bites. Cool that he’s so willing to help mentor you, Brian. Keep up the great work!
rocketvince 13 so far so good with that truck.... you kinda sound like my go-to mechanic 😂. That engine does have quite the reputation though!! Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for the video Brian and Mike! Really awesome seeing you two talk about the business especially since I'm right here in Livonia.
Brad Niesyto thanks for watching! Hopefully we run in to each other soon enough. Maybe at Weingartz?
Bedell Property Management LLC forsure! I'll be at the open house 👍🏻
Brad Niesyto see you there 👍
Great video, wven 5 yrs later. Need an update on how many brine rigs ran now. Upgrades to think about. How do you keep brine storage tanks safe from theft?
Will do
Great information in this one. Great clean setup and I like how portable it seems to move in and out of the truck when not in use. Brian your killing it with the vids!
Trying to catch up to Stan 😂 Were just getting warmed up, I’m telling you what. Ha
Thanks for the info...and acknowledging we all gain that weight during the Snow/Ice season
mo jazzn it’s true 🙄

For sure! If it snows or we need to deice, we will definitely try to capture footage. Hoping the winter snow is gone for good but, we shall see.

How do people charge for this application

Are you using "jets tips" or just drilled pipe?
Mike is the man! Like to see a shop tour if possible. Thanks for the video.
Scout's Outdoor Services SOS Certainly a possibility - maybe over the summer 🙂

Very cool guys thanks for showing us keep up the awesome work
"bpm" 👍🏼 being a musician, i appreciate that 😅
good talk with mike.
kodiak wild thanks! 🤘
#networking #peoplehelpingpeople
Im in mass last 2 years we haven't used our salt supply up. Have had more rain then anything this year.
Good stuff. Definitely appreciate the info.
Tim horton in the USA I tought they only were here in Canada
They have them here in Metro Detroit. Best Coffee Ever.
And the timbits 😋. Rrrrrrrroll up the rim!
it's spreading 😅
They are all over upstate ny
I was using liquid last year at a apartment building I do and it melts better then rock salt
Nice video

Cool good to know!
What’re your thoughts on starting just a snow plow company?
Jack Strudgeon if you see the opportunity to make a return on investment - go for it!
Bedell Property Management LLC I’m from the dexter MI area and currently work for a guy in the winter, I mean we get close to probably the same amount of snow if ur in the wixom area

Salt was 5.10 a bag and bulk was 80 a ton now bag is 7.50 and bulk is 140 a ton
Ya that's crazy
going into liquid this winter, lots of information coming out of MN, different brine mixes depending on temps
hope to see more deicing info this year...thinking it might be an add on service. I have my applicators license for weed applications, and now im wondering if I can use the same unit for deicing driveways and small parking lots. Run a lawn biz and looking for additional services. thanks!
Hey Mike is that particular rig 4wd? Nice setup by the way!
Lamont Hairston it is 4WD - thanks for the kind words 🙂
Bedell Property Management LLC the one I want is an older model. 95 GMC 3500HD with a dump bed and only 49k miles. It's already outfitted with a boss plow mount with no blade. And it's 2wd

I made my own prewet system it's was extremely cheaper than buying the Fisher for my salter it was like 2k they wanted I have less than 300 into it.

Hope he has a CDL with the tanker endorsement,
Hauling more than 119 gallons requires it
Great video!! i feel smarter now lol
TIM-BITZ!!! YUM!!

Brian's Lawn Maintenance Ok thank you. I might look at a snow blower because then I might be able to expand a little bit
Go for the snowblower, Noah. It’ll go places that an ATV or Zero turn can’t
Bedell Property Management LLC ok thank you for the help👍
Lots of great info from Mike. It’d be a lot easier to listen to if he were to learn how to speak in sound bites. Cool that he’s so willing to help mentor you, Brian. Keep up the great work!
Ill show you big boy club you junior contractors
man the rust this stuff creates 😬
I feel bad for him because that's a 6.4 one of the worst diesel engine's made 100,000 mile throw away engine
rocketvince 13 so far so good with that truck.... you kinda sound like my go-to mechanic 😂. That engine does have quite the reputation though!! Thanks for watching 👍
Andrew Stratton well put! Around 95k
